Anyone else feel a bit uncomfortable with the spike in threads about racism? I don't mind a healthy debate about racism but many threads recently seem to have brought out the worst in people. Mnhq having to delete numerous comments due to racism. Ignorant or culturally unaware posters writing ridiculous posts that would simply not be accepted in day to day life. People claiming racism when it isn't.

I'm tired of it. Is anyone else tired of it? It's really draining...

Sigh.
Firstly the text in bold on your post is what you said not me so the comment about the goady response is a bit odd.

Secondly I said in a previous post that I have no idea how old you are etc. Moreover I have not made any assumptions about you as an individual just stated my opinion on an issue.
Thirdly if you are not capable of having a healthy debate or discussion on an issue dont have one.
Thats pretty much all I have to say in reaponse to your comments going forward as you appear to be derailing things now and the post isnt really about where you grew up or who your dissertation advisor is or isnt.

I know it's my text I repeated it because I was commenting on how my thoughts had been borne out by your response.

Dottierichardson · 17/09/2018 11:09

Now who's 'throwing their toys out of the pram?'

Dottierichardson · 17/09/2018 11:14

And a debate on what? You disparaged the term 'women of colour' and by implication those who used it on the thread, more than one of us btw, even though you said you didn't know where it came from...All I did was let you know its origins. You responded to my personal thoughts about US versus UK writings on race/racism by 'lecturing' me on writers and the history of race. Patronising in the extreme. You brought up Gilroy, I made it plain that I knew his work and that I knew it thoroughly. When I withdrew you bated me by the comment about toys and prams...I said I didn't want to interact with you, you carried on. I merely responded to the implication that I was flouncing.

Dottierichardson · 17/09/2018 11:18

I just find your choice of written register irritating, so I didn't/don't want to interact with you. I would imagine that the feeling is mutual. I am leaving it at that, let's see if you can do the same. Since you have subsequently accused me of name-dropping and so on...

C8H10N4O2 "Salem made the assertion that men have been proven to be punished as much if not more so. Therefore its for Salem to back it up, not for me to prove the negative."
The apologists for Serena's behaviour have said that men are not punished the same as women. Therefore, it is the onus of those making the claim that men and women are not punished equally, to prove their point. However, I will plonk this here and exit:-

@salemblackcat that doesn’t mean men don’t have their behaviour ignored while every single incident in the women’s game is picked up. Hmm

SalemBlackCat · 18/09/2018 09:13

@Faithless12 It shows that men don't have their behaviour ignored, while women's games get a lot more leeway.

Faithless12 · 18/09/2018 14:08

@salemblackcat Please explain how you’ve got to that. This doesn’t show the number of instances of each type and each fine. It only states how many fines were handed out.
I can deduce (correctly) from these stats that women are less likely to smash their rackets or be overtly aggressive. It however does not prove that women are given more leeway.
If you want to prove it beyond the male players stating that they have got away with more than they see their female colleagues getting away with then sit and tally up each incident and it’s type and then cross reference to how many fines or penalty deductions and then we can talk about proof.

I haven't seen much, but I'm a dinosaur who existed before social media when ignorance was bliss.... the world was a better place then because you would mix with like minded people and presume everyone thought like them, therefore you were able to contain some extreme views. Now every ignorant person has a platform to stir the pot and incite racism! 🤷🏾‍♀️.
