To be disgusted by this crowdfunder

Alex Salmond has launched a crowdfunder to fund his judicial review as he stands accused of sexual crimes against two women.

The man is a millionaire.

In 24 hours his cult like followers have given him £50,000. I don’t know what’s worse. People who can’t afford it donating money to a millionaire celebrity, or to an accused sex offender.

Some of the support comments are really rather alarming

History should not be judged by current standards. Women should not judge men on behavior prevalent at a time when they may have been complicit in it,however innocently.

WTAF have my eyes just read???

Bestseller · 30/08/2018 08:13

If it's true NS must have known it was happening?

ismellsnow · 30/08/2018 08:16

I knew this would be about Salmond before I opened the thread.

Innocent til proven guilty of course and I make no comment on that but the crowdfunding is ridiculous. Still you know how the saying goes fools and their money are easily parted.

BakedBeans47 · 30/08/2018 08:21

There's always a question mark over women who wait years to make a complaint.

Is there? Does this include Jimmy Savile’s victims?

"Why should he pay for his own legal advice because of allegations.

It seems the hard of thinking we believe you are all over this.

Just because you dislike or find someone "smarmy" doesn't mean they're guilty of "sexual crimes". "

If he is innocent then he should let the legal process unfold & get good legal advice as anyone else would paid for out of their own savings. Maintaining a dignified silence would be better surely.

THIS unsavoury bit of fundraising is totally to muddy the waters.

jasjas1973 · 30/08/2018 08:22

Why should he be out of pocket for this? There's always a question mark over women who wait years to make a complaint

This comment explains why victims don't feel able to report sexual abuse, of any type.

He isn't fund raising to defend his name in court but to fund his action against the SNP over how they handled the complaint.

Igneococcus · 30/08/2018 08:27

"and has done nothing apart from politics and a shitty chat show for Russian telly."

Wasn't he an economist for the RBS for a few years?

CaptSkippy · 30/08/2018 08:33

I think it is possible to file a protest with the crowd funding site. If enough people make a stink about it, they may just shut it down.

Alternatively, you can do a counter-crowd funding for those very organisations you mentioned. Kick up a big fuss nationally and start a donation campaign and divide the procedes between the organisations who need it.

Or crowd fund for the legal costs of his victims.

Doubletrouble99 · 30/08/2018 08:34

I am far from an AS supporter but OP, come on he is a politician not a 'millionaire celebrity.' He has dedicated his working life to the SNP cause for with he will have been reasonably well paid. He has probably written a book or two, done some talks and had a show on the RN network so worked for his money unlike many 'celebrities'.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 30/08/2018 08:34

Bloody hell, those comments look like a script from Braveheart.

Bestseller · 30/08/2018 08:36

Yes Igneoccus, he worked as an Economist for nearly ten years. I can't stand the man, but it does annoy me when people just make stuff up

tiddlyipom · 30/08/2018 08:36

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/711143/Alex-Salmond-cashes-in-on-SNP-failed-independence-earning-up-to-1-000-each-HOUR
Interesting article about his finances. The man has 6 pensions, a taxpayers funded £1million payout and lots of private gigs ,he can afford his own legal fees.

S0upertrooper · 30/08/2018 08:41

Just for the record I am Scottish, an SNP supporter and advocate for independence. I'm not Scotch, or tight with money @annie. I'm not a sheep and I'm not anti English. I think sarcastic digs against others on this thread are cheap and childish.

I am very disappointed to hear the allegations against Alex Salmond however I am realistic that there is a serious possibility that they are true and this will hopefully come to light through the legal process.

I am pleased the Scottish government took the steps they did and feel that Nicola Sturgeon's statement is fair.

I'm disappointed that AS has chosen to crowdfund, but to be honest I hate crowdfunding of any kind, I find it grabby but I think it's very inappropriate in this situation and some of the comments on the page are very inappropriate. However he is using this to challenge the Scottish government's due process, not the allegations of sexual harassment. I also think it is right that he resigned from his position whilst he does this.

As a PP stated, AS has not been arrested by police, so do we go with innocent until proven guilty or no smoke without fire? Potentially there are 2 women who have experienced sexual harassment and if this is the case I hope they have support, find justice and the accused is charged accordingly.

nononsene · 30/08/2018 08:44

Dear God. Those poor brave women that have made the complaints about him. How must they be feeling seeing all those comments? You just know that their names are going to become public knowledge at some point and their lives will not be worth living.

The SNP faithful will deliver some of their “community justice”, I have no doubt about it.

dementedma · 30/08/2018 08:45

I'm more appalled about the mindless followers who are happy to part with their money to support a legal case against the very party they support....
This is not about defending sex allegations, this is a legal challenge to process which he chose to bring and is perfectly able to fund.

Darkbendis · 30/08/2018 08:49

SOupertrooper, I agree with everything you've written, this is my opinion too.

LittleCandle · 30/08/2018 08:49

I haven't looked into it, but I was under the impression, by some friends who are huge AS fans, that he did not set this up - it was set up for him. I don't like him, but when I was a kid, he was our MP and really got things done, mostly because he was such a pain in the arse that people did things to make him shut up!

BakedBeans47 · 30/08/2018 08:49

Wasn't he an economist for the RBS for a few years?

Yeah and look how they ended up. Grin

BakedBeans47 · 30/08/2018 08:51

I was under the impression, by some friends who are huge AS fans, that he did not set this up - it was set up for him

Given it was attached to his twitter statement I had assumed he’d set it up himself

nononsene · 30/08/2018 08:53

Little candle look at his statement. He did set it up himself.

Raglansleeve · 30/08/2018 08:57

Oh, and the reason the complaints relating to 2013 were only made in January 2018 was because NS called for an internal review of the Scottish Government's complaint procedures AFTER Harvey Weinstein, and allegations in the UK parliament. It is possible that the complaints were made much earlier, but procedures were not in place to follow up properly.

dementedma · 30/08/2018 08:58

I started reading the comments and it only took about half a dozen before you got the first reference to the women who have made the accustions being English.......obviously relevant and obviously makes them lying bitches!!
As an English woman living in Scotland I was called an English cunt several times during dear Alex's referendum so I don't know why I am surprised at reading the above.

ButchyRestingFace · 30/08/2018 08:58

Yes, I'd like you to expand too. A dig at Scots perchance?

On a thread like this - people having a dig at the Scots Scotch?? Shock

Who’d have predicted that?

Ah um a hunner per cent taken aback.

lemon8de · 30/08/2018 09:00

Ew. What kind of people would donate to his crowdfunder Hmm
?
