To be disgusted by this crowdfunder

Alex Salmond has launched a crowdfunder to fund his judicial review as he stands accused of sexual crimes against two women.

The man is a millionaire.

In 24 hours his cult like followers have given him £50,000. I don’t know what’s worse. People who can’t afford it donating money to a millionaire celebrity, or to an accused sex offender.

I don't think the crowdfunder is wrong. The fact that Alex Salmond is moneyed is irrelevant, we're all equal including those better off than most.

He has been accused of very nasty crimes and everyone knows about them including his name, the crowdfunder restores balance.

All are innocent until proven guilty.

Gaelic signs were introduced in 2001... SNP government weren't in power then. They were only finishing what was started already.

And as I said earlier, there were keyboard warriors on both sides, some of us were also treated badly who supported Indy ( see my earlier post).I am sorry that you were treated appallingly @MrsJMartinthe first. I may disagree with your views, but I respect your right to have them.
I know from experience that the "nasty" element are being kicked out of decent Indy groups and blocked, and I have reported a fair few myself. The vast majority of us that support Independence are not like that, but its a certain element that hit the headlines, and tar us all with the same brush.Hmm

What's worrying is the increasing use of alleged sex offences to destroy people.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/09/2018 17:25

I should have said that my friends, online and in real life, most of those who were pro-Independence, were very civilised about the debate and our differences. When I was talking to people I trusted, I was able to be honest - it was in wider Scottish society that I had no confidence that my views wouldn’t open me up to abuse.

I did lose one friend over Indyref - that still makes me sad.

@Rebecca36 - I think it is wrong that a millionaire should have his hand out for donations from much less well-off people. And I think that it looks like an attempt to show AS’s accusers that people do NOT believe them - “Look at all these people who believe ME, not you”!

I can echo the sentiments of the no voters on here. I ended up being off work for a month ill because of the stress of the indyref. It was absolutely vile.

I’m predicting that Salmond will win his court case against the Scottish government as the SNP seem so shit at writing effective legislation as demonstrated by the named person and OBFA fiascos. A certain section of society will then say that proves he is innocent.

I would have much more respect for salmond if he’d taken the Scottish government to court after proving himself innocent of the sexual assault charges first. Doing it this way round is appalling

AlmaGeddon · 02/09/2018 20:03

I see the SNP only came to the fore in 2011, then gained a majority in 2016. I feel that is when indyref took off.
I see it was labour who was the major party when the g,aelic signs carry on started. I still feel it was pandering to the indy vote whoever was in the majority, and an unnecessary move.

Happityhap · 03/09/2018 01:15

The "indy vote" in 2001 was tiny. Labour had no reason to "pander" to it. Most people in Scotland had then, and still do have, very little interest in Gaelic.

Hear, hear.

The way he's doing it suggests that he's an arrogant, entitled twat.

MrsJMartintheFirst · 06/09/2018 18:49

Never a truer word said @SchadenfreudePersonified.

oprahfan · 06/09/2018 21:19

Really weird.
I was chatting with my OH going up the road to near Alex Salmonds constituency, where we live, and told him about a moment that came back to me when I was younger.
I worked with the public and Alex Salmond came into the area I was working. I was alone for a minute or two before other dealing with other people. He stood in the doorway turned to me and gave a huge grin and winked at me! I told my OH , my god....that guy must’ve really fancied himself,as a politician, and then actually stopping on his way out of the door to wink at me! Then a later on in the week, the news broke about his alleged harassment.
The guy is a millionaire for gods sake. And he had the gall to crowdfund for legal expenses! His ego has obviously not diminished in size then.......🤔

happyhillock · 08/01/2019 12:53

Alex salmond is a smug, arrogant vile man, never liked him was so happy when he resigned, dont think much of his predecessor either, guilty or not he should be ashamed asking people who earn a hell of a lot less money than him to donate to help pay his legal bills, i would rather donate to cancer or dementia charities than give to this sleeaze ball, he's not short of a millionaire, the cheek of him, if he's found guilty will people who donated want there back?
