AIBU to get pissed off with all the Autumn and Winter "cosy" people

Now that the evenings are getting darker I feel sad that summer is ending .. and pissed off with the "cosy" people !! I hate winter .. what is "cosy" about bumbling about in the dark and scraping ice off your car, getting fat with stodgy food , seeing all the shit sentimental Christmas TV adverts and being pale , corpse like and with drizzled on hair !!! .. this is light hearted but I just don't get it ! .... I've stayed away from the " We hate summer" threads as instructed as they were not for me ... so now it's my turn !!

Lonicera you've hit the nail on the head! It's how people tolerate the heat or cold.
I struggle above about 22degrees, headaches and nausea, plus terrible hayfever too!

LoniceraJaponica · 22/08/2018 09:13

My heat tolerance starts to fade at about 30 degrees, which we never get where I live. We have had many days of mid to high 20s, which for me is perfect.

Hayfever sucks though. I don't normally get it, but have had to buy antihistamine eye drops this year because my eyes stung.

Spudlet · 22/08/2018 09:17

My car was reading 37 degrees when I was stuck in traffic a couple
of weeks ago. 37! That is too damn hot. It's been topping 30 regularly round here up until the last couple
of weeks or so.

Now it's in the twenties, which is lovely. Although I won't be sorry to see the back of the flies, which are from now it's cooled down a bit. We are plagued with them.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/08/2018 09:27

The flies are a flipping nuisance

StylishMummy · 22/08/2018 09:31

I LUFFS autumn

I wasn’t built for the UK.

In Spain a few weeks ago and temperature 47degrees.

Absolutely loved it. Felt it should be like that everyday.
No arthritis, warm, blue skies and felt happy.

What more could a person ask for.

Port1ajazz · 22/08/2018 16:57

Precious , how old are you ? We live in Britain , we have variable weather and it changes from year to year ! It sounds as though you need a sun lamp !

Port1ajazz · 22/08/2018 17:05

AIBU to expect mums on Mumsnet to temper their language , I swear , but not on a social media site . I find bad and sometimes foul language negates any salient points made by a poster !

MeyMary · 22/08/2018 17:08

@Oliversmumsarmy

I must say, 47 would do my head it.

Until 30 is lovely. 30-35? Fair enough. Everything above makes me feel slightly dead.

Especially because the town I work in has a knack for being hot and rather humid for middle Europe...

Hot and dry is the key to comfortable heat...

Unless I get a midday nap. Or a very efficiently climated office... Then that's fine :)

Could you maybe buy yourself a heat lamp (like they have for babies. Or chicken eggs?) or an at home sauna? That might be helpful...
It must be difficult to know that you could feel great / healthy but that the climate of your home country is basically keeping you in pain.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 22/08/2018 18:16

I love Autumn, it's my favourite time of year! Long jumpers, leggings, boots, running in the crunchy leaves, the colours........ ahhhhh

But I love summer too...... I don't particularly like the winter despite being a winter baby, as I hate snow and ice and being cold (Although I do love christmas) :)

You're as much NBU as you are BU :)

SoupDragon · 22/08/2018 18:33

You must be new...

LoniceraJaponica · 22/08/2018 19:18

I don't understand the love for constricting clothes - jumpers, scarves, coats. Also boots.
Why?

The local forecast for the next few days is depressingly low, even for August. I will have to dig out jeans and jumpers. We have 15 degrees forecast for Friday Sad

JacquesHammer · 22/08/2018 19:21

Why?

Because I don’t think any of those things constrict in any way. I love my boots and jumpers - most comfortable things I own.

CruCru · 22/08/2018 19:23

I love Autumn - but all these people who talking about running in the Autumn leaves, do you actually do that? I pretty much thought that was something you would only do if you are in a sweater catalogue.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/08/2018 19:24

In summer wearing just underwear and a dress
(and sandals when going out) is much more comfortable.

I wear cardigans/jumpers/coats only to keep warm. My preference is to wear less.

LeighaJ · 22/08/2018 19:25

I hate all the seasons equally.

Whereas I can’t think of anything worse Grin

Delatron · 22/08/2018 19:29

I love pootling about in shorts/vests/dresses without having to worry about a coat.

I despise getting up in the dark and I’m in awe of people who find it fine. Hate dark evenings too. I don’t get ‘snuggling’ under a blanket? I don’t want to do that for 6 months! I want to be out, in the light evenings! Sitting in my garden, having a glass of wine. This summer has been fab.

Though I admit, we need to get some more air con in this country.

littlegecko · 22/08/2018 19:47

YANBU

I have seen several of the Autumn/Winter brigade posts and feel confused as to how anyone can favour that time of year. I love Spring/Summer - the light evenings, the clothes, the heat, the beach, the summer glow, the general happy atmosphere etc etc.

I dread the colder months and don't need to be reminded how near they are !

speakout · 22/08/2018 20:07

Why is it confusing?

Autumn is lovely because of tree colours, first frosts, misty days and cool air, apples and berries,Halloween, bonfires.

Winter is exciting because of fireside glows, hot chocolate, comfy knits, Christmas, snow and yummy food.

Spring is beautiful because of spring flowers, new life, geese returning, Easter eggs.

Summer is awesome because of the warmth, hazy days, days at the beach, strappy sandals, picnics on the grass, shorts and flowers everywhere.

I struggle to dislike any season and get excited at every change!!

LoniceraJaponica · 22/08/2018 20:32

I don't get why people like frost. I assume they don't have to scrape it off their car before going to work. DD is 18 so Halloween is not a thing for our family, I hate mist, I prefer warm air, apples are OK, and as for bonfires - I wish they would ban them.

Hot chocolate is something I enjoy once in a blue moon. Snow where I live is massively disruptive.

You romanticise the seasons speakout. They have little to do with reality.

It’s pretty. Blue Star (I think!) de-icer dissolves frost without needing to scrape. Takes seconds.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/08/2018 20:39

De-icer is bad for the paintwork.

JacquesHammer · 22/08/2018 20:41

De-icer is bad for the paintwork

If you’re spraying it onto your windscreen it doesn’t touch the paintwork. Then I spray on a sort of squeegee thing and wipe it over the windows.

Easy

ForalltheSaints · 22/08/2018 20:43

I like autumn, but hate the early darkness once the clocks go back. Indeed if ever I ran the country, my first decision would be to end the clocks going back and save a few lives into the bargain.

Sauna are wonderful for minimising the cold of winter, and also having some break away between Christmas and Easter, even if just a couple of weekends away.
