Now that the evenings are getting darker I feel sad that summer is ending .. and pissed off with the "cosy" people !! I hate winter .. what is "cosy" about bumbling about in the dark and scraping ice off your car, getting fat with stodgy food , seeing all the shit sentimental Christmas TV adverts and being pale , corpse like and with drizzled on hair !!! .. this is light hearted but I just don't get it ! .... I've stayed away from the " We hate summer" threads as instructed as they were not for me ... so now it's my turn !!

My gas and electric bill has been a mere £150 per month all summer. Which was a godsend after the £400-450 per month bill we were getting since August of last year

Wow! That’s an insane amount on gas/electric!!

I've wasted the entire Summer, the last Summer before dc starts schoolBlush
staying inside, only venturing out to supermarkets and hanging around the frozen chips
and in Meadowhall ffs.
I cannot wait for Autumn 🍂🍂🍂

Tartyflette · 21/08/2018 08:59

Hate long dark evenings, I feel ilke a mole, getting up and leaving for work in the dark, not getting back until it's dark again, (no street lights in my village) and barely seeing neighbours for months on end. The cold is even worse.
And what's with people who can't wait to show off put on their new winter boots and coats on September 1st, even if it's still 25 degrees! You've got months and months to wear them, sweetie.
I stay in summer clothes, especially dresses for as long as possible, no ghastly socks or (shudder) tights round here , thank you.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 21/08/2018 09:02

YANBU, I love summer and long days. Dreading the short, dark, damp days of autumn and winter. Going to work and getting home in the dark, yuk. Nothing cosy about it at all, just bloody miserable.

Now imagine you are riddled with arthritis and you waste 10 months of your life each year because you are in pain and can’t move, work or even walk with out being in agony and you are moaning about a few weeks.

Icanttakemuchmore · 21/08/2018 09:37

Hate it too hot as its hard for me to breathe on exertion (lung problems) but I also hate the cold (neuropathy). So I can't win either way! But at least with it being cold you can add layers. I quite like the time at end of the summer months when it's neither too hot or too cold.

justbinthefeckinbyebyebox · 21/08/2018 09:38

Oliversmumsarmy
I do have arthritis and find that the heat makes my flares much worse than the cold.
Not a few weeks either, it's been months here, since April.

DeltaG · 21/08/2018 09:45

The remark about being 'pale and corpse-like' is unpleasant OP. Some people are naturally very light-skinned and cannot help looking 'pale and corpse-like, even in summer, as they don't tan.

There's nothing like a bit of body-shaming to help people feel all summery is there?

itssquidstella · 21/08/2018 09:48

I love Autumn and Summer equally. I can't stand winter, though, especially a British winter when it's freezing and grey and there's a constant trickle of piss-drizzle coming from the sky.

Alicatz66 · 21/08/2018 10:12

I said this was light hearted !! I'm not body shaming .... I find a balaclava in a nice autumnal shade helps

I despise being cold.

It's far more uncomfortable being too cold than too hot, even if it is easier to warm up.

The lack of sunshine makes me miserable and lethargic, winter food is a faff, scarves are stifling, boots feel heavy and rub, it takes forever to get dressed because you need so many layers just so you don't shiver, getting out of the shower is horrible, waiting for buses (can't drive for medical reasons) with a child who is crying because the rain is going sideways and is so cold it stings is also horrible.

Early autumn when the leaves are falling and are still lovely and crisp (and not a soggy slippery mess), there's still a glimmer of light and it's not totally grey and bleak isn't too bad but winter is fucking awful.

Gavel.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/08/2018 10:45

I like summer and autumn - and winter, dark nights and all, except for January - so dismal after Christmas - which I always dread, but in practice it's not usually so bad.

What really got on my nerves last autumn/winter, though, was all that 'hygge' stuff - just a marketing ploy to get people to buy more throws and candles and hygge-fication books, FGS. As if we don't have our own words for cosy/cosiness, and we all know what they mean and how to do it - except those people with all-white minimalist houses, of course.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/08/2018 10:46

I meant I dread January, not Christmas!

JaneJeffer · 21/08/2018 11:27

BillywigSting has summed it up nicely.

Being menopausal I hate having to wrap up to keep warm outside and then when you get inside and a hot flush strikes you're peeling off layers to cool down and you feel awful.

Knowing your children will be soaked waiting for the school bus and have to sit in those clothes all day.

It's usually, grey, rainy, windy and horrible.

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/08/2018 12:07

My arthritis had disappeared this summer. Dd actually commented how I was moving, how I could walk up and down stairs and how much stuff I was doing.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/08/2018 12:40

Blimey Justbin Sheffield wasn't that hot. I live just outside Sheffiled and work in Sheffield and really enjoyed the warmth this year.

Aragog · 21/08/2018 15:23

Blimey Justbin Sheffield wasn't that hot.

I agree. Im in Sheffield too. We hit 30+ maybe a couple of times, in full sun. Normally was about mid 20s when it was 'hot' so definitely not excessive. Was hot in an air conditioned classroom but easily bearable if I opened the tiny windows all round and kept the blinds down.

April - mostly the temperature was low. We had maybe 3 or 4 days when it was above 20. The average high in Sheffield in April was about mid teens.

My arthritis had disappeared this summer.

Mine is way better in the summer. Even if I have a flare up (did earlier in summer) it isn't the debilitating pain and ache in the way it is when it is cold and wet. More stiffness than pain. I had a cortisone injection in May/June to prevent even that and it made a massive difference - I knew I would be walking a lot on holiday, plus sitting for 11 hours on a cramped plane each way, so didn't want to deal with the stiffness of knees and ankles.

Some excessive humid heat can make mine flare a bit - was 40+ and humid in the US when we ere there for a few days and if I try to walk too far, some of my joints in that weather do swell a little. But again - more the swelling and stiffness rather than the constant dull ache and the stabbing acute pains. I have read that humidity related issues is often down to lack of fluid movement so its really important to stay hydrated throughout. Not keeping active because it is too hot to do as much has an impact too I'd imagine.

However, most anecdotal evidence always suggests that pain is usually worse in cold weather (probably made worse as people also hold themselves tighter when cold) but a small number may be affected more in hot weather.

SinglePringle · 21/08/2018 22:21

Been gorgeously hot and sunny today! I know if goes downhill for the rest of the week (after tomorrow) but I’m still loving it!

And hopefully it’s back for September and October.

SoupDragon · 21/08/2018 22:22

Yes, I felt happy again today :)

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/08/2018 22:30

I can report there was actual sunshine on the beach in Cornwall today!

Actually far from body shaming, I like that it got so hot this summer people gradually gave up camouflage clothing and thought fuck it let's just wear less. People of all shapes and sizes and ages walking round like they live in Miami! Great.

Ilovemypantry · 21/08/2018 22:48

I love love love Autumn and Winter apart from Xmas which I hate!
Love the dark nights, lighting smelly candles, snuggling under a warm cosy blanket and lovely casseroles in the slow cooker.
Only downside is trying to get the washing dry without running up a horrendous electric bill!

toomanycuddlytoys · 21/08/2018 23:13

It has been very unpleasant in Sheffield! I have lived her 25 years and it's never been so relentlessly warm /humid as this for so long. The weather station is good evidence of this

LoniceraJaponica · 21/08/2018 23:33

I am about 12 miles out of Sheffield and much higher up, so we are always 2 or 3 degrees cooler. However, I work in Sheffield and never found it unpleasant. I think I just tolerate heat better.

DwangelaForever · 22/08/2018 07:43

@SinglePringle nooo it can stay away for September/October it's officially autumn then! Not to mention it's my last month of pregnancy Grin so the hot weather can do one haha
