Now that the evenings are getting darker I feel sad that summer is ending .. and pissed off with the "cosy" people !! I hate winter .. what is "cosy" about bumbling about in the dark and scraping ice off your car, getting fat with stodgy food , seeing all the shit sentimental Christmas TV adverts and being pale , corpse like and with drizzled on hair !!! .. this is light hearted but I just don't get it ! .... I've stayed away from the " We hate summer" threads as instructed as they were not for me ... so now it's my turn !!

Summer has been over here for the last few weeks and, despite loving Autumn generally, I’m gutted. Just looking out at the miserable grey sky thinking well that’s it for the next 8-9 months. Autumn when it’s clear skies, gorgeous colours and treacle toffee is all very well, winter when everything is sparkling and bright and the frost crunches underfoot whilst lights twinkle above is delightful. But the reality where I live is mostly just grey grey drizzle grey - everything from the dog to the bottom of my jeans to the inside of the car is always just damp and I’m not ready for it yet!

DwangelaForever · 20/08/2018 20:16

I love autumn/winter 😍 there is nothing better than coming home, turning on the heating, wearing fluffy pjs and a house coat, lighting your rooms up with lamps and candles and just chilling out.

Summer is too hot and too bright for me, I just prefer the atmosphere of autumn/winter

bemusedmoose · 20/08/2018 20:18

Ive enjoyed the summer, its been a corker, but autumn is my season. I love the colour changes, the smell in the air (which I've already caught a whiff of so autumn is arriving), probably have a nice 'Indian summer', bonfires and marshmallow toasting, pumpkins, Halloween, hot spiced cider.... Just love it!

Dont like November though, it just tips it down.

Diamondsandjems · 20/08/2018 20:36

I like all seasons tbh, love wearing shorts, getting a tan and taking the kids to the beach in the summer but also like jumpers, sitting I front if the fire and having the kids tucked up in bed early in the winter. You don’t have to be corpse like in the winter though, there’s plenty of good natural looking self tans around.

GabsAlot · 20/08/2018 20:38

sorry i love autumn and winter the summer is debilatating for me at least when its cold u can put more more layers

Booboo66 · 20/08/2018 20:38

YANBU, already feeling the dread of the forthcoming months of dreary cold. It’s still only August and already I’m wearing 3 layers and boots. Still living in hope of the Indian summer we were promised but is so far failing to materialise

LeftRightCentre · 20/08/2018 20:39

Can't wait. Heat with no air-con is utter shit. Sick of this.

SerenDippitty · 20/08/2018 20:41

Seriously, what is there to like about dark nights as someone up thread mentioned. Maybe they live in well-lit city. We live in the dark countryside so once it gets dark, it really gets dark.

I get SAD and I’m sure I’d be a hell of a lot worse in the country. After all the city comes to life as it gets dark. The countryside just gets dark.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 20/08/2018 20:46

The thing I like about dark nights is that DS2 will go to sleep before 9.

GabsAlot · 20/08/2018 20:46

as for the dark dull days it helps my dh on shifts he sleeps much better after the clocks go back

BellaMaroni · 20/08/2018 20:49

YANBU.

I've loved this summer.

Alicatz66 · 20/08/2018 20:52

April241 .. sorry to inform you but "squeeeee" is alongside "cosy" on the list of banned words Grin

YANBU. I always start to feel depressed at the end of August. I have a full time day job and another one in the evening three times a week and I hate leaving for work in the early evening in the cold and dark.

genz · 20/08/2018 21:24

you can prise my PSL from my adorabley sweater-pawed, cosy, mittened hands 😤☕️🍁

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 20/08/2018 21:44

I've never had a PSL. Pumpkin flavoured coffee sounds weird.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/08/2018 22:27

Why the obsession with "cosy"?

BlackberryandNettle · 20/08/2018 22:59

Yanbu. They could also least wait another few weeks to start going on about autumn/winter. I'm holding out hope for another really hot spell.

Sissyjd · 20/08/2018 23:38

With you op. Can feel my lie force draining away. Getting into fbook spats with cozy xmas lovers..one telling me to go on more holidays if I muss the sun! Smug cow goes on cruises and two+ sun hols a year.. then posts she's in Majorca and moans its TOO HOT!! Bitch 😝

GrumpyOldMare · 21/08/2018 07:07

You could be me! That's exactly how I feel!

LoniceraJaponica · 21/08/2018 07:33

Now that DD is 18 a lot of the autumn festivities just pass us by.

If autumn means we will get an Indian summer then bring it on. Autumn is the worst time of year for clothes buying for me as I just don't suit the autumn colours at all.

DD is summer born and loves autumn. I am autumn born and love summer so that debunks the theory of loving the season you were born in.

speakout · 21/08/2018 07:39

I love all seasons.

DD is 18 and we still have celebrations in Autumn, Halloween is big here, I make a special meal, decorate the house, have a few friends around, we usually have 30-40 children coming to the door.

Lots of firework displays around here too.
We start preparations for winter, pick brambles, make cordial and preserves, DS (20) and I will make flavoured spirits to put away for christmas.
Autumn is a time for planting, spring bulbs, shrubs, trees.
I bring out the lanterns, candles, throws for the house and change the mood a little.

Autumn can be fun at any age.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/08/2018 07:45

Halloween isn't big for adults where we live. I don't care for preserves etc., but I love gardening. I will be spending this autumn redesigning a big flower bed.

We have a very small very scattered family and don't have loads of friends (OH is rather unsociable) so Christmas is a very low key affair as well. I envy people with larger families and whose parents are still alive and in good health. TBH christmas just isn't a very joyous time these days, so I am hoping we can go away now that DD has left school and doesn't have to spend the holidays revising for exams.

Spudlet · 21/08/2018 08:15

Im just glad it's rained a bit. The garden is green again! We were on the verge of losing some pretty mature plants I think, but they're refiving now. We lost some veg too - no peas for us this year depite our best watering efforts and not many strawberries either. The courgettes and carrots have loved it though. You can see that some of the crops around here have been left a bit stunted too, even with irrigation, and it's been a worry for livestock farmers, who've been having to feed their winter forage. The grass was just gone! A nice sunny day is lovely, but it's been a proper drought where we are, and that's not great. We need a bit of balance.

I'm looking forward to the leaves falling too - we have a woodland nearby and it's stunning on a crisp autumn day. And ddog turns back into a silly puppy when you kick the leaves for him to catch. He's struggled wih the worst of the heat at his age so the fresher temperatures are appreciated here.

mydogisthebest · 21/08/2018 08:18

The cold doesn't really bother me although I prefer warm weather. What I hate though is the dark. Dark morning, dark evenings and then, oh joy, when the clocks change dark afternoons! I absolutely hate it. So depressing.

I hate winter clothes too. Jumpers make me feel constricted even baggy ones. I am not even keen on long sleeves as I don't like the feel of them.

As for socks! I hate them too. I like bare feet but as soon as the weather is cool my feet are freezing so have no choice but to wear socks.

I will never ever understand how having to have the lights on indoors by 4pm is considered "cosy". Nor is having to have a fire or the central heating on.

Oh and nearly forgot I hate the fact that I can't hang my washing out and have to use my tumble drier and, obviously, get higher electric bills

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/08/2018 08:24

My heating has already gone on.

My gas and electric bill has been a mere £150 per month all summer. Which was a godsend after the £400-450 per month bill we were getting since August of last year.
