Every time someone asks about a breed, people criticise it. Apart from retired greyhounds.

AIBU to wonder if the perfect breed does actually exist?

mrsrams she is a pure Yorkie , nothing added, nothing taken away.
Plus she is the queen of all she surveys, despite being small enough to be picked up in one hand

Dhalandchips · 16/08/2018 22:36

I think Shi Tzus are perfect: don't moult, lazy, just want cuddles. I have two rescue boysSmile

Pissedoffdotcom · 16/08/2018 22:36

So how do you explain children raised kindly with love going on to do terrible things?
There are so many factors involved in raising a dog - as with kids - that you can't ever make a guarantee. On health OR temperament.

RitaMills · 16/08/2018 22:38

I tend not to turn to MN with anything dog related as I have one of the cross breeds ending in ‘poo’ so would obviously like to avoid any vitriol aimed at me or to make anyone irrationally irritated by my beautiful little dogs mere existence. He’s happy, healthy and loved so so much, that’s good enough for me.

liz70 · 16/08/2018 22:39

My poor brother has borne the shame of being owned by owning a staffie/boxer cross for over fourteen years now. Sad

Crossbreeds - mongrels - are great dogs. Tougher and more resilient than many specific breeds from tiny gene pools which breeders have distorted for profit. Plenty sitting in rescue waiting for you.

TemptressofWaikiki · 16/08/2018 22:45

Well, Greyhounds are of course the most perfect breed... Grin

mcdog · 16/08/2018 22:47

I have a gorgeous labradoodle, he is the best dog ever, very placid, lovely temperament and great with the dc.

RedDwarves · 16/08/2018 22:49

I'll take any dog over any human any day. They are the best.

But beagles are the bestest. Grin

Blobbyweeble · 16/08/2018 22:49

Sorry, a collie/lab /springer is the best.GrinI’ve had all of these and now have a border collie and a lab/springer cross. Absolutely wonderful beasties.

I'm currently warming my cold feet under my dog's armpit. Just another example of why she's perfect.
Enjoying the dog photos, of course they're all lovely

Thesearepearls · 16/08/2018 22:53

But they don't do terrible things. Children brought up with kindness and love don't do terrible things. The only exception to that rule is mental illness (including psychopathy).

I accept that I have a very simplistic view of these matters but on the whole, I find that behaving decently and being kind to kids and animals is a good strategy. It's not a strategy that has failed me so far.

NorksAreMessy · 16/08/2018 22:54

allthelittle

A) excellent TP username
B) Gorgeous pooch
C) so sorry you lost him so recently. Xxx

HollyGibney · 16/08/2018 22:55

My Scottie. He's a 3rd Gen Pedigree. I went to see the litter once, with the best of intentions to walk away and look at a few more. I handed a deposit over within ten minutes and took him the next day at 11 weeks. Everyone told me he'd be a nightmare, they're so stubborn, do you have enough experience for that breed? You've missed the important socialising weeks. You'll never be able to let him off the lead, no recall, high prey drive and so on. None of that is true apart from the stubbornness. When he doesn't want to do anything we all know about it but he's actually usually right. Having a Scottie is like having another person in the house. I am besotted with him.

Dogs are love. Hairy, smelly, thieving horrors too but mostly and above all, love. Long live dogs.

liz70 · 16/08/2018 22:58

As well as bullies, I get occasional Manchester Terrier envy. Absolutely beautiful dogs.

Springer spaniels are an absolute joy. Ours would protect my boy with her life. The most loving, loyal creatures in the world. X
