Totally in-appropriate outfits for toddler session

Bellabutterfly2016 · 07/08/2018 20:55

So this afternoon me and dd went to a holiday toddler session just in our village hall where the usual group meets up.

Ok so I get it's hot but today we had women pushing 40 (and I'm one myself) with skimpy cut off jean shorts revealing butt cheeks and chafing between the legs (to the point where 1 little boy said to his mummy "I can see that lady's bottom!!!) and dresses and skirts so short when people were bending over to play they were flashing knickers that were maybe white a long time ago and boobs hanging out of very low vest tops nearly popping out!!!

I had to laugh at one of my friends tho - she just smiled and said "the weather brings them all out" which certainly seemed to be the case today.

No idea why people felt this was appropriate!!!!! Why do they do it????

Probably because they're not ashamed of their bodies. I hate to think how these women would have felt seeing people write stuff about them on Facebook. Way to make some women feel unwelcome and probably really shit.

In Australia it's hot as fuck a lot of the time. A lot of people wear as little as possible.

FrangipaniBlue · 08/08/2018 06:46

I also saw a young girl with her arse hanging out of her shorts at a restaurant recently. All I could think was she is going to sit on a chair where someone else has to sit later. Repulsive.

What the fuck do you do when you wipe your arse that makes arse cheeks repulsive, smear the shit all over them??? Give over eh.

I wear short shorts, you know the denim kind that only just skim the arse cheek, that yes you will get a flash of when I bend over. I'm 37 so "pushing 40".

Do I wear them to be exhibitionist? Do I fuck.

I wear them because clothing manufacturers think women have straight up and down legs, denim shorts that are any longer (ie mid thigh/above the knee) simply don't fit around my quads (I weight train). I'd have to go up 2 sizes but then the waist is far to big and you'd see right down my arse crack every time I sat down, not to mention constantly having to hoik them up.

3 bastarding hours I spent at the start of this summer in a large department store trying on literally every pair of shorts, trying to find more modest ones because I felt like people like the dickheads on this thread would judge a 37yr old woman in short shorts.

In the end I decided fuck it. I am going to wear whatever the hell I feel comfortable in.

FML I despair at MN sometimes.

Camomila · 08/08/2018 07:26

I think some people might have thought this about me on Saturday :D

I took DS to the paddling pool...its 0.6m deep at the deep end, so while all the other mums were standing there in shorts/tees and keeping them dry I was in a bikini (because of course my 2 yr old wants to be in the deep end)

Camomila · 08/08/2018 07:27

On the plusside i've bought a jumpsuit for the playground - no flashing there!

ShirleyPhallus · 08/08/2018 07:33

body shame

When is this phrase going to fuck off?

GunpowderGelatine · 08/08/2018 07:44

Also, why is it not OK for OP to comment (have an opinion) on the way someone dresses but OK for most PP to comment on her opinion, and be nasty too. Thank god we live in a free speech country, imagine if we didn't...!!

Because it's no one's right to judge what other women wear, however when you come onto a discussion forum asking for opinions then you're inviting comment. Duh

gamerwidow · 08/08/2018 07:51

The OP is free to comment, in fact if you look carefully at this post she has Grin. Free speech means we are equally free to tell her that we think her opinion is shit. That’s how free speech works.

MaisyPops · 08/08/2018 07:57

I dont want to be seeing people's arses hanging out when going about my day to day life, just like I don't want to see men with their trousers half way down their backside showing a huge arse crack to the world. I don't like seeing men wandering around town or the supermarket topless the second there is sun.

I mean sure, on MN lots of people will claim that it doesn't matter what a woman wears/doesn't wear and people will claim that there's nothing wrong with anything and you should 'bore off', but the thread about shirtless men seems to suggest people do actually have an opinion about what others wear.

How hard is it to dress for whatever it is you are doing and not flash your backside? (Man or woman)

toomuchtooold · 08/08/2018 08:01

Oh for Jesus' sake, is there nothing we can do now without being judged? I thought one of the few advantages of life with a toddler is at least there's no dress code. You know? When I was working, there was a dress code, but they were paying me quite a chunk of money so it was a fair swap.

Strongmummy · 08/08/2018 08:17

I hate those cut off shorts where the arse is hanging out. I think they look shit on everyone. My issue with the OP is that she made it personal, judgemental and ageist. She’d already commented about it to her friend, why then share it with a group of anonymous strangers?!?! Completely pointless

Booboostwo · 08/08/2018 08:43

Sexism, body shaming and online bullying. Well done OP have Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit

ShirleyPhallus · 08/08/2018 08:49

online bullying

Oh give over!

LadyRussell · 08/08/2018 08:52

I lived in a hot country and managed to keep cool without ever showing my arse cheeks or boobs, other than where it was appropriate as in the beach.

I don’t think there is anything wrong in objecting to seeing people walking around in shorts that a few years ago would have belonged in a porn film - esp when the wearer is 12/13.

What the hell kind of confusing messages are we giving out as women?

Don’t objectify us as sexual objects but when we walk around half naked don’t look at us either - keep your eyes to the floor and take us seriously.

And I don’t like seeing guys walking around with their tops off in the street either.

It’s not body shaming, sexist or online bullying. What a load of bollocks. It’s asking people to show a bit of decorum and class.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/08/2018 09:11

There’s a whole heap of things you can do without being judged, toomuchtooold. Millions of things. Just not those things that involve flashing your arse.
There are reasons why that’s frowned on in the workplace.
Toddler group isn’t the place either.

ClaryFray · 08/08/2018 09:28

It wasn't pornagraphic I'd just get over it. Bum showing shorts area thing. I wouldn't wear them but hats off to those with body confidence to do so.

I wish I had enough spare time to get her up about these things.

MaisyPops · 08/08/2018 09:30

Strongmummy
I agree.
The OP was out of order to be so personal and ageist.

I don't want to see anyone's arse and find it odd that people insist of going around with theirs hanging out.

(I own a pair of short shorts so am not a prude. I wanted another pair but the ones I've tried on this year seem to be cut so you can see the bum line where it meets the thigh, so I didn't buy them. Who actually wants to see my backside in Tesco? Grin)

LadyRussell With you there. It's not really body shaming to find it odd that the second the sun comes out some Brits seem to think bum cheeks, arse cracks, essentially beach wear, underwear on show, bare chests are standard day to day clothing.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/08/2018 10:20

Some people have an extremely misplaced sense of body confidence, tbh.
Some of the flesh I’ve seen lately would really benefit from being covered up, and so would the poor unfortunates that have to walk behind it in the street.

SaucyJack · 08/08/2018 10:36

“Their anuses weren't on display Saucy.”

No, but unless you’re a contortionist then there’s potential for any matter to come into contact with the inner arsecheek as it glides past on its final journey over the rainbow U-bend.

Do those of you who insist on leaving the house with nothing but 2cm of cotton between your ringpieces and polite society at least have the decency to shower after your daily constitutionals?

TSSDNCOP · 08/08/2018 10:49

Saucy I have to say, I don’t think you’ve quite got the hang of having a poo.

I don’t like the shorts because I don’t like them. I’m not afraid of shit covered arses being wiped across a chair I may want to sit in.

OP what is the fictitious dress code for Toddler Group?

Nikephorus · 08/08/2018 10:50

I'm guessing that most or all of them probably thought that it was so hot that they wanted less on (forgetting that it doesn't always work like that) and when they looked in the mirror they didn't try looking from a bent over position, front and rear, to check if the view was acceptable or not. I certainly don't think to practice my yoga poses in front of the mirror before going out (though I wear long baggy shorts and cover up too much because I know I'm fat and feel shit about it).
Each to their own. Judge in your head certainly, that's normal enough, but I'm not thinking that it deserves an AIBU post about it (or a FB post)

Cismyass · 08/08/2018 11:03

You clearly live somewhere very down market OP.

SemperIdem · 08/08/2018 11:07

Bristol people in general really don’t dress well for summer. It isn’t exclusive to women, not even those “pushing 40”. Hmm

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 08/08/2018 11:08

That's the dress code round here, toddler session or not. Hmm

SemperIdem · 08/08/2018 11:15

British people!

Sorry Bristolian’s! I wasn’t picking on you especially Grin

xJessica · 08/08/2018 11:20

Wow you make 40 sound as if we should all be sent off to the nearest retirement home! Pushing 40 indeed!
