To think it should be an actual criminal offence to get two adults to share a double bed?

Fuck me a double bed is so fucking small for two adults! A child in a single bed gets more space.

Have spent a hideous night at DM’s in a tiny double but my MIL and grandmother is the same - all have double beds. I’ve been elbowed in the back a number of times and feel like I could fall off the bed at any time. Obviously all these beds have super soft mattresses so you either feel like you’ll fall off the edge or there is some droopy magnetic force pulling you both in to the middle.

How does anyone sleep with their DP in a double? I miss my big bed so much!

We have a double. No problems at all.

Oysterbabe · 04/08/2018 08:35

I've never had an issue. How big are you both?

Kingkiller · 04/08/2018 08:35

Confused I share a double bed with dh and have done for 18 years. Perfectly comfortable, no elbowing!

NoknowNoknow · 04/08/2018 08:35

I completely agree it's a crime against being an adult 😂

BertieBotts · 04/08/2018 08:35

Grin Try doing it when pregnant, dear god I have never been so uncomfortable. And yes, overly soft sprung mattress so every move makes you bounce around like you're on a trampoline.

I love my enormous bed Blush

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 04/08/2018 08:36

YADNBU. When we book our holiday cottage each year the first thing we check for is a king size bed. Doubles are way too small for us for a comfortable night.

BertieBotts · 04/08/2018 08:36

A standard double isn't even the width of two singles - so an adult in a single gets more space than an adult in half of a standard double.

dementedpixie · 04/08/2018 08:36

We've always had a double bed. Don't really have room for a bigger bed. A small double is smaller than a standard double so maybe they have the smaller bed

ImogenTubbs · 04/08/2018 08:37

Sigh, I miss our super king size we had - could have fit four people in there! We now just have a king. Agree with you OP, but then DH and I are both 6ft.

HellenaHandbasket · 04/08/2018 08:37

Yup, very tight. We have always had a long size in part because dh is so tall, otherwise his feet hang out 😂

I'm eyeing a super king at the moment to make more space for all the kids who keep appearing.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/08/2018 08:37

How big are you both?

Im 5’7” and a 10-12 but DP is 6’2” and built like a rugby-playing-all-the-food-eating-tank so I do accept that’s part of the problem Grin

Dp has a double bed, I have insisted on having two separate duvets Grin

I have a super king bed and that is ok for us but he's a duvet hogger so I have lots of blankets and throws.

Amanduh · 04/08/2018 08:37

Confused never had an issue. We have a king now but have had a double in the past with plenty of room

Chathamhouserules · 04/08/2018 08:38

We have a double. It's perfect. We feel a bit lonely in a huge bed. Are you quite big?

lakehouse · 04/08/2018 08:38

We have an 8 ft bed...bliss! I can't believe anyone can sleep comfortably in a double. Less than a king would be a struggle!

FittonTower · 04/08/2018 08:38

We're both 6ft+ and do fine in a standard double. But we're not flail-y sleepers so no one gets elbowed, if either of us wriggled about a lot we would probably need a bigger one.

Hamiltoes · 04/08/2018 08:39

I love our double but DP would like a bigger bed (he is twice my size so understandable). I despise going on holiday in a kingsize, feels so far away.

Chathamhouserules · 04/08/2018 08:39

Sorry just seen your update re rugby player. My dh is scrawny marathon runner...

ShirleyPhallus · 04/08/2018 08:39

I will also admit that I like to sleep on my front with one knee up so there’s nowhere for that knee to go in a double

And I HATE being touched in bed. Nice cuddles before sleep but cannot sleep with someone touching me

BertieBotts · 04/08/2018 08:40

We're both about the size of you Shirley, I don't think it's a size thing, it's what space you're used to. We used to have a double no issue.

GinPink · 04/08/2018 08:40

We have a double as we can't fit any other size in our bedroom. It's the worst thing ever, the moment we can afford to extend we will, just so I can get the biggest bed ever.

jaseyraex · 04/08/2018 08:40

We'd only ever had double beds so it never really bothered me. We got a super king when we moved house last month and my god, I don't understand how I ever tolerated a double! Especially while pregnant. It's been bliss being able to roll right over and still be nowhere near DH Grin

Shoxfordian · 04/08/2018 08:40

We have separate beds

OnTopOfSpaghetti · 04/08/2018 08:41

Shoxfordian so do we! DH snores and I wriggle a lot, so separate beds suit us.

Ragwort · 04/08/2018 08:42

Totally agree, I don't share a bed with my DH despite having a 6 foot bed, he sleeps alone in a 5 foot bed Grin. It totally limits our holiday options or staying away, last week at my brother's DH slept on the floor rather than share a double bed. Always request twin beds if we go to a hotel.

Genuinely cannot understand how couples can sleep well in the same bed, apart from the size of the bed there is always the issue of duvets/windows/getting up for the bathroom/wanting to read in bed/different times for getting up/going to bed etc etc ...... or am I just too fussy?
