To wear this dress to a wedding??

I've got a wedding next month, I've bought this dress but my sil says it's so much and I'll look a bit twatty?

If you saw me wearing this at a wedding what you think it was terrible? Or is it fine to wear for a wedding?

I've seen dressier at weddings and it's a gorgeous dress

Plural · 28/07/2018 21:46

It's not really wedding-y more for a ball. Is there a specific dress code for this wedding?

HaveSomeGrace · 28/07/2018 21:47

Honestly? First thoughts were mob/mog or bm. Nice for a black tie do though.

ThePinkOcelot · 28/07/2018 21:47

To the daytime? I don’t think I would tbh. It looks more like an evening dress. Lovely though.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 28/07/2018 21:48

its lovely - not traditional wedding attire but who cares!

sil is rude to comment unless you asked her.

Siestalavista · 28/07/2018 21:49

It's gorgeous! If I had that figure I'd wear it in an instant!! :)

DeadBod · 28/07/2018 21:49

I wouldn't dream of wearing that to a wedding. It does seem a bit ott.

Ginorchoc · 28/07/2018 21:49

Is it an evening wedding?

Imsorrylhaventaclue · 28/07/2018 21:50

I think too dressy for the ceremony but I’d wear it if just an evening guest.

Gigis · 28/07/2018 21:50

Totally depends on the wedding. Small, homemade affair - completely ott. Large, extravagant where other guests will also be in full length, maybe.

It is quite evening-ish. Is the wedding happening in the day? I admit I'd be a bit Hmm if you turned up to a wedding at my local church/registry office wearing it at 11am! (But then again I don't move in very fashion fabulous circles!)

It is a nice dress though.

Allthewaves · 28/07/2018 21:50

Not appropriate for a wedding unless back tie affair.

littlepeas · 28/07/2018 21:50

It is evening wear - if the dress code is black tie and it’s an evening wedding then it would be ok - I agree with your sil that it isn’t suitable for a typically English summer wedding though.

californiascreaming · 28/07/2018 21:51

Its a beautiful dress but it isn't usual English wedding clothing - yes for an evening ball/dinner/cocktail do.
Would look a bit over the top in church/daytime drinks while b&g have photos done.
Save it for a more appropriate event...

NapQueen · 28/07/2018 21:51

Its far too glam glitzy for a day guest at a wedding. You may end up blending in with the bridesmaids.

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/07/2018 21:51

No, I'd say that's about right for a wedding. Maybe not if it was a more casual wedding i.e. on a beach or in a field, but for most that's the sort of thing I'd wear. I've seen the perfect dress I'd want to wear to weddings today only it's designer from about 6 years ago :(

TheShapeOfEwe · 28/07/2018 21:52

Fine if it's a black tie wedding but maybe a bit much otherwise? Just depends on the wedding really!

MerryMarigold · 28/07/2018 21:52

Yes, v much depends on wedding. Marquee in a field not so much. Posh city venue/ evening do, definitely.

ShowOfHands · 28/07/2018 21:52

A glam, black tie wedding perhaps. A normal wedding, I'd think you'd misread the situation quite badly.

BlueMoon33 · 28/07/2018 21:53

Is it black or navy blue?

I’ve got a thing that you can’t wear black to a wedding. Or white, unless you’re the bride or a child.

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/07/2018 21:53

Although that's probably just as well because judging by what others have said I may be totally wrong Grin

dressesdressesdresses · 28/07/2018 21:53

It's in St. George's hall starting at 3 o'clock??? Still to early to wear

kaytee87 · 28/07/2018 21:53

The sequins make it inappropriate imo

tootstastic · 28/07/2018 21:54

YABU, you'd look way overdressed for a daytime wedding. It's a black-tie event dress and I think you'd feel uncomfortable in it on the day.

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 28/07/2018 21:55

It's a bit Susan Boyle.

I am never knowingly underdressed but yep, too much

TheShapeOfEwe · 28/07/2018 21:55

I think unless the dress code specifies black tie then regardless of the time of the wedding it's going to be too much. It's an evening gown really - very beautiful though!
