I love George.

The BBC also though Savile, Rolf Harris and David Lee Travis were okay too.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2018 11:20

Rolf Harris is out isn't he?

MyOtherProfile · 26/07/2018 11:21

Rolf Harris is out?? I really didn't think he was gay.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 11:23

Yes the daily mirror seem to have someone who follows him around, the other day he was buying screws in wicks and someone called him a dirty bastard...

That story took up a whole page.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2018 11:24

No idea MyOtherProfile but I think he was released frpm prison last year.

Also I didn't know Bowie was in this so it was great to have him pop up.

CaptainKirkssparetupee doesn't seem to have the same problems with Bowie.

"In a Thrillist piece entitled, I Lost My Virginity To David Bowie: Confessions of a ‘70s Groupie, Lori Mattix recalls a sexual encounter with Bowie when she was only 14 years old.

“He focused his famously two-colored eyes on me and said, ‘Lori, darling, can you come with me?’” Mattix recalled. “He walked me through his bedroom and into the bathroom, where he dropped his kimono. He got into the tub, already filled with water, and asked me to wash him. Of course I did. Then he escorted me into the bedroom, gently took off my clothes, and de-virginized me.”

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 14:06

That was never proven, there have been no more rumours about Bowie anqd underages sex. Boy George was convicted.

Surely you see the difference?

MyOtherProfile · 26/07/2018 14:06

No idea MyOtherProfile but I think he was released frpm prison last year.

Oh different kind of out!

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 14:07

Also going through my posts for the prestige thread was brilliant!
Good film.

Yoksha · 26/07/2018 14:09

Fackin' hell Groucho!!!!!

I never knew this. This chchchchanges how I will remember Bowie.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 14:10

I have a thread about Michael Caine not being as great as people think, it has no replies, it's very lonely maybe you can find it and post on it?

MoonsAndJunes · 26/07/2018 14:17

'anyone who thinks you can’t make a mistake at 47 knows nothing."

Oh, it was a mistake !!
That's why there was a court case, guilty verdict and prison sentence... a simple mistake.

GrouchoMrx · 26/07/2018 14:26

there have been no more rumours about Bowie anqd underages sex

Sable Starr also admitted to having had sex with David Bowie in an interview back in 1973. It is a given that David Bowie had sex with young groupies as did nearly ever other rock star on the scene at the time.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2018 14:27

I have no idea what people think of Michael Caine. What's he done?

longwayoff · 26/07/2018 14:32

Bowie? Frankly you'd be hard put to find any 70s rock star who hadn't had underage sex whether knowingly or not. Girls used to queue for attention and if the main players were already busy then even the roadies were up for grabs. Think present day footballers but with music. Fourteen was then generally accepted to be old enough to know what you were doing although still illegal. Few people would have considered this child abuse.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2018 14:33

Is 'de-virginized' a word?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 14:37

I have no idea what people think of Michael Caine. What's he done?

Nothing bad, I just can't see why he's so highly regarded as an actor when he plays himself in everything.
He's also in the prestige, which is where my pleasant surprise at Bowie remark came from. Unrelated threads.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 14:39

Right and your point relates to my thread about the prestige in what way?

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 26/07/2018 14:41

I watched last night and I really enjoyed it; I know who Boy George is but never heard of him properly.

I had no idea about his sex abuse and I won't be watching anything with him in anymore... don't see them featuring Harvey Weinstein after his sentence is over.

CSIblonde · 26/07/2018 14:53

Elvis, Jimmy Page, Jerry Lee Lewis, Marc Bolan, Bowie etc have all been described in the press and biographies as sleeping with under age groupies. Back then, 15 seems to have been considered OK. (In Southern parts of USA back then, you could marry at 13 if parents gave permission).

doubleshotespresso · 26/07/2018 14:54

Utterly baffling those on here comparing him to Saville or Harris who were all paedophiles-an entirely different and more sinister crime to anyone with a tiny iota of intelligence.
I haven't seen anybody anybody here referring to the fact his victim was a sex worker or inferring that this somehow made it ok. But to compare it with the gravity and grief of child abuse is nuts.
I honestly fail to see why he shouldn't be on the BBC- there are far worse offenders broadcast daily-this would apply regardless of what talent he did or did not possess.

GrouchoMrx · 26/07/2018 15:01

Still the same now unfortunately.

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/200000-children-married-us-15-years-child-marriage-child-brides-new-jersey-chris-christie-a7830266.html

"The youngest wedded were three 10-year-old girls in Tennessee who married men aged 24, 25 and 31 in 2001. The youngest groom was an 11-year-old who married a 27-year-old woman in the same state in 2006.
Children as young as 12 were granted marriage licences in Alaska, Louisiana and South Carolina, while 11 other states allowed 13-year-olds to wed.

More than 1,000 children aged 14 or under were granted marriage licences."

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 15:05

Are you going to answer my question Groucho what is your point staging up an old thread I made about the prestige?

longwayoff · 26/07/2018 15:05

Bloody hell Groucho. I had no idea.

Laiste · 26/07/2018 15:07

So many are happy to call a nasty sex crime a 'mistake'! Is Bert from down the pub an amazing guy even though he's been to prison at 47 for chaining up and beating someone?

Surfer - ''What are your views generally regarding criminals?
Throw them in a dungeon to rot?
Constantly remind them of their crime even when they’ve left prison?
Never let them move on?''

Depends on the person and weather we're supposed to swallow how 'wonderful and warm, intelligent, sensitive, genuine, and what a person of substance he is. His conviction for sexual assault and false imprisonment do tend to mean some people will tend to err on the side of 'he's a bit of a wanker'.
