Who's watching?
I love George.

Thanks Elfrida. Must've been difficult being him (effeminate) in an Irish family.

Starlight345 · 25/07/2018 21:49

What channel is this on . Can’t look right now hopefully can catch it on catch up

WipsGlitter · 25/07/2018 21:50

derxa · 25/07/2018 21:50

I wish pop stars like him still existed in the present day. People of substance.

God, he's a complete narcissist! Why do people want to be his friend?

I have a mutual friend with Boy George and he has been quietly supportive and kind to him through some really troubled times.

ThomasNightingale · 25/07/2018 21:53

The thread was not titled “Boy George is brilliant please come over here and agree with me”. If it was a MN thread about pretty much anyone in the world on WDYTTA then someone would crop up to say that they find them smug/too thin/not funny/adulterous.

If Cheryl comes up on MN someone will mention her conviction for assault, possibly involving the word “thug”. If someone says they like Stephen Fry then the fact that he once said that men are keener on sex than women will be brought up. So yes, the fact that O’Dowd has “served his time” for a particularly nasty violent crime doesn’t mean that he’s magically a national treasure again. For some reason his fans insist that it’s somehow in bad taste to mention what he did to his victim.

I totally believe that.

Well that's us told ThomasNightingale.

ElfridaEtAl · 25/07/2018 21:55

Badger that's what I thought but from what I've caught so far he's not brought it up in a negative way, he's said he Grandma was very supportive of him.

LePolyBag · 25/07/2018 21:55

His eyes look so beautiful in this video

surferjet · 25/07/2018 21:56

Absolutely ❤️ him.

derxa · 25/07/2018 21:59

Thomas He's not perfect by any means. But we of a Celtic origin understand him. And those of us who lived through the 70s, 80s etc understand.

HolyMountain · 25/07/2018 21:59

Nobody has called him a national treasure? just you Thomas I think.

Starlight345 · 25/07/2018 22:01

Thank you @wipsGlitter

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2018 22:01

That was really interesting.

londonrach · 25/07/2018 22:02

He came across well

speakout · 25/07/2018 22:02

Horrible person- with a huge string of criminal convictions behind him,

fairislecable · 25/07/2018 22:03

I loved him too until I read his autobiography - he was not a nice person when he was younger .

He thought it was funny to drug, seduce or whatever straight guys and he mocked how shocked they were once sober.

Horrible to treat people this way.

Although you have to give him kudos for including this in his biography, most people would be ashamed and it would not have been mentioned

FunkyHeroCat · 25/07/2018 22:03

My aunt went on a yoga retreat with him, and being in her 70s didn't really have any idea who he was, but said he was lovely (she'd heard he might have been famous once so asked me who he was!).

Iflyaway · 25/07/2018 22:04

Totally agree with you!

MeltingPregnantLady · 25/07/2018 22:06

I tend not to pay attention to who is on the show I just love it for the social history side of things. The American one is fascinating as they're all migrants.

I love the ones with Irish roots because it's so hard tracking down accurate Irish records beyond a certain point and to have a family member as pivotal in Irish history as George has is quite interesting regardless of his own personal issues.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 25/07/2018 22:06

He does still exist in the present.

Procrastinator1 · 25/07/2018 22:06

Important story he told though. Shines a light on how the English behaved in Ireland.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2018 22:07

I think what was meant is that present day pop stars have no substance. I would have to agree with that.

speakout · 25/07/2018 22:07

He was considered by most to be a lightweight and am idiot even in his heyday.
