Sex shop wouldn't sell me vibrator.

NC for this as slightly embarrassing...

Went in to a well known sex shop to buy a vibrator. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and wanted to buy one of the wands. I took it to the till and the woman at the front stated that these vibrators weren't safe for use in pregnancy and wasn't happy selling it to me. Told me it can cause preterm labour. She then pointed me in the direction of something entirely different and said this would be safer as the vibrations are less and it is internal.

I have spoken to my midwife since who has told me it's absolutely fine to use a vibrator. I have no issues with my cervix, no concerns about preterm labour etc. She told me it is actually more dangerous to use a dildo as it can introduce bacteria, which is what the lady in the shop told me to buy instead! Told me that pre term labour CAN be caused by orgasm but only if you have other underlying issues which I do not.

AIBU to go back and ask them to sell it to me? Going on holiday tomorrow morning and really wanted to take it with. Not the end of the world if I can't but would've been nice...

Why would you go back there? Buy one online at Love Honey or similar.

TheQueef · 23/07/2018 15:36

Just get it from Amazon?

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:36

@DailyMailReadersAreThick because I'm going on holiday tomorrow morning and wanted to take it with Sad I only went there because I knew there was a sale on!

@TheQueef will amazon deliver before tomorrow morning though? Unlikely!

BottleOfJameson · 23/07/2018 15:37

Agreed that you should get it from elsewhere and if you want write an email to the shop correcting their mistake.

Yep.

TrudeauGirl · 23/07/2018 15:37

If you have been told it's safe by your midwife then they should sell it to you.

Maybe see if she can give you a note to say it's fine? I don't know, that might be silly advice but I'm not sure what to do in this situation.

Midwife note for a vibrator is the oddest sentance I've ever typed.

Hope you get one Smile

TheRoadLessRocky · 23/07/2018 15:37

Try with a different sales assistant and say its a gift?

PixieCutRegret · 23/07/2018 15:38

I'm slightly jealous op, I completely lost my libido for the duration of my pregnancies.

Personally I wouldn't want to give them my custom. Is there another shop you could go to?

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:39

I highly doubt they'll get it to me before I leave tomorrow. I'll be gone by 6! What a pain. Will have to see if there's anywhere on holiday I can get one... or go without Grin

Your pregnant so surely a man involved, can’t you just jump on him on holiday? Can’t be that desperate for a vibrator surely?

I think the store have already made it clear they won’t sell that item to a pregnant lady ( to cover themselves) so I can’t really see the point in going back. You’ll have to order online or whatever for when you return from holiday

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:40

@PixieCutRegret not before tomorrow. Gosh my sex drive is through the roof!!

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 23/07/2018 15:40

@DailyMailReadersAreThick because I'm going on holiday tomorrow morning and wanted to take it with sad I only went there because I knew there was a sale on!

But you don't have one now so I can't see how it's so important to you to have one for the next week. Order one now and there will be a nice surprise waiting when you get back.

rwalker · 23/07/2018 15:41

tell them it's a present

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:41

@PinkHeart5914 he's not coming on holiday with us. He's in the military and away a huge chunk of the time anyway so sadly I don't have much sex! Apart from when he's home and it's non stop Grin

OP posts:
TrudeauGirl · 23/07/2018 15:41

Have you got a spare one you could take for now?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 23/07/2018 15:44

Can’t a friend pop in and get it for you?

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:46

tru I have but it's crap and wanted to treat myself. It's only because it is round the corner from my work that I was going to pick it up. Didn't realise they were allowed to refuse! I guess it's up to them but silly really considering most sources said it is fine (and encouraged) unless told otherwise!

OP posts:
NoCanoe · 23/07/2018 15:46

Fgs. Say its a fucking gift!

QueenOfMyWorld · 23/07/2018 15:48

I was a raging nympho throughout my pregnancy and used my v powerful one every day,def no risk unless your midwife has told you otherwise
Flowers

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:48

@NoCanoe bit late now though isn't it! Hindsight is a wonderful thing... I'm just going to go in and tell them I've spoken to my midwife who has told me it is fine. If they don't sell it to me I'll just wait until I get back.

OP posts:
ichifanny · 23/07/2018 15:48

Send someone else in for you , I’m raging for you I was annoyed being refused anusol cream the other week even though it’s fine in pregnancy but telling you what to do with your sex life os taking it too far I’d have been pretty annoyed .

QueenOfMyWorld · 23/07/2018 15:48

That was supposed to be flowers not gin!

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:48

queen that's really good to know! Thank you!

OP posts:
Stephisaur · 23/07/2018 15:50

@CarlottaAlotta I agree with PP, tell the nosy saleswoman that it's a gift.

I can't see how it's any different to a good shag anyway, are the employees planning on policing them too? Grin
