Sex shop wouldn't sell me vibrator.

NC for this as slightly embarrassing...

Went in to a well known sex shop to buy a vibrator. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and wanted to buy one of the wands. I took it to the till and the woman at the front stated that these vibrators weren't safe for use in pregnancy and wasn't happy selling it to me. Told me it can cause preterm labour. She then pointed me in the direction of something entirely different and said this would be safer as the vibrations are less and it is internal.

I have spoken to my midwife since who has told me it's absolutely fine to use a vibrator. I have no issues with my cervix, no concerns about preterm labour etc. She told me it is actually more dangerous to use a dildo as it can introduce bacteria, which is what the lady in the shop told me to buy instead! Told me that pre term labour CAN be caused by orgasm but only if you have other underlying issues which I do not.

AIBU to go back and ask them to sell it to me? Going on holiday tomorrow morning and really wanted to take it with. Not the end of the world if I can't but would've been nice...

I hate that once you're pregnant everybody get's to decide for you. Like you don't have a brain anymore.

Sallystyle · 23/07/2018 16:43

The lelo one is fantastic.

You need it and hope you get it.

Charolais · 23/07/2018 16:45

You should have told her you were buying it for your shy friend.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 23/07/2018 16:48

I may have to invest in one of these wands. I have a vibrating bunny but it's shit.

Lizzie48 · 23/07/2018 16:50

Could a friend (who isn't pregnant obviously) buy one for you before you go away?

Hope you have a lovely holiday. Smile

delphguelph · 23/07/2018 16:53

And nothing, umbongo Confused

I just want to make sure I've got things correct when I'm choosing a new hero

P00ka · 23/07/2018 16:54

I can't believe you said to your Midwife ''can I use a vibrator?''

I'd never have that kind of nerve.

xmaspost · 23/07/2018 16:58

A good few comments on the different brands on this thread, etc.

I have to say the Hitachi one is amazing. I'd tried one or two others, but that's the first one that I had an orgasm with.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 23/07/2018 17:00

Anyone got any links? Tis my birthday coming up so I might treat myself.

teneleventwelve · 23/07/2018 17:20

Off topic - but can you send a link to the one you were going to buy?

Just asking for a friend….. ;)

TheClitterati · 23/07/2018 17:25

tell them to fuck off and you are buying it for your Mum anyway!!

Really how nosy and intrusive of them. I may still be reeling from when the (otherwise lovely) chap in Pret asking PG me if it wasn't time to switch to decaff coffee (11 years ago) so I can't imagine how furious you are.

People really are over involved with PG women.

To those asking for links these are the and summers ones. I got the £63 one for £35 during a massive sale ages ago. Expensive but amazing! Plug in so never have to worry about batteries.

There's others in the site too

gamerchick · 23/07/2018 17:35

Treat it like a chemist and send someone else in for it.

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 17:52

@P00ka haha why? My midwife is ace and has probably heard worse...

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/07/2018 17:56

Just do it the old school way and wank with your hands

TheQueef · 23/07/2018 17:56

If you are going for a wand make sure it's mains adaptable.

No one likes running out of juice at the wrong time.
The Hitachi is an investment piece for when you've given up on men.
I'm fairly sure we could substitute it for a whacker plate. God only knows the state of my mons.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 23/07/2018 18:00

I was told by a midwife friend that she's caught couple in the throes of passion in the delivery suite after baby is born. So OP's midwife has probably seen worse too.

Lifeisabeach09 · 23/07/2018 18:04

I can't believe she told you an internal vibrator would be safer!!!!
Definitely email their head office after holiday to clarify.

Carrotmama · 23/07/2018 20:02

We are getting close to a classics nomination here! Grin

hiddeneverything · 23/07/2018 20:04

Hahahahaha good for you OP! Enjoy your holiday! X

WingsofNylon · 23/07/2018 20:37

I've never been so invested in someone else getting their rocks off. I really hope you get your hands on the vibrator OP! Don't give up.

CreepyPasta · 23/07/2018 20:53

OP I worked for AS for a long time. She’s given you the completely wrong advice. The Lelo wands are fine all throughout pregnancy. We used to recommend not using anything with a moving shaft towards the end of pregnancy as there’s a small chance it could give you a sweep. They shouldnt have refused to serve you though regardless of what you were buying.

OneForTheRoadThen · 23/07/2018 21:00

@CreepyPasta I really laughed at the small chance of being given a sweep by a vibrator. If only my sweeps were like that 😂

TrudeauGirl · 23/07/2018 21:53

Sorry I went swimming, missed the thread. Did you manage to get the vibrator OP?

goldopals · 23/07/2018 21:54

I bought one in France when I was last there...
