Sex shop wouldn't sell me vibrator.

NC for this as slightly embarrassing...

Went in to a well known sex shop to buy a vibrator. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and wanted to buy one of the wands. I took it to the till and the woman at the front stated that these vibrators weren't safe for use in pregnancy and wasn't happy selling it to me. Told me it can cause preterm labour. She then pointed me in the direction of something entirely different and said this would be safer as the vibrations are less and it is internal.

I have spoken to my midwife since who has told me it's absolutely fine to use a vibrator. I have no issues with my cervix, no concerns about preterm labour etc. She told me it is actually more dangerous to use a dildo as it can introduce bacteria, which is what the lady in the shop told me to buy instead! Told me that pre term labour CAN be caused by orgasm but only if you have other underlying issues which I do not.

AIBU to go back and ask them to sell it to me? Going on holiday tomorrow morning and really wanted to take it with. Not the end of the world if I can't but would've been nice...

Is it a hitachi body wand? They’re crazy. My friend turned hers on once to show me how strong it is I’m fairly convinced it would tunnel through a wall!

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:50

ichi it's actually the orgasm that can cause early labour in women with underlying issues not the vibration! The vibrator's website says it's safe for use in pregnancy unless told otherwise by your medical team!

It's not really silly though is it. They can only go on manufacturers advice.
Imagine the shit storm if they'd sold it to you, against store policy or whatever, and something dreadful had happened.

Yeah they are amazing things to be fair.

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:51

@NotUmbongoUnchained no but it is similar! Not as powerful apparently but the hitachi one I've heard is pretty hardcore!

@ThisCannotBe manufacturers advice is that they are safe for use in pregnancy unless stated otherwise by your medical team... so they aren't going by manufacturers advice.

Gosh I would never leave my room Grin

TrudeauGirl · 23/07/2018 15:52

Is it the white one with a purple head? From Ann summers?

I don't know why I'm asking, I'm sorry. Grin

ichifanny · 23/07/2018 15:53

Eh orgasm causing early labour ? Jesus I’m 32 weeks and doing it nearly every day one way or another I’d better be careful Grin I would t have thought it was much difference to any other sex in pregnancy so unless you are at risk of pre term labour or have ruptured membranes or are bleeding I’d have thought no risk .

checkingforballoons · 23/07/2018 15:53

Go back and strike up enthusiastic conversations with their customers. Every single one of them. ‘Goodness, where are you going to put that?’ ‘Have you got a lot of MILF porn? Any recommendations?’ ‘Bloody hell, make sure you don’t lose the key’ and so on. The shop will serve you just to get rid of you Grin

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:53

tru no but I did see that one online! It's a Lelo one that's on sale in store.

If only you had stuck to using a vibrator in the first place you wouldn't be in this mess op Grin

SchrodingersMeowth · 23/07/2018 15:53

I once bought a wand on amazon same day!

vampirethriller · 23/07/2018 15:54

An electric toothbrush (with a condom over cos you really don't want the bristles!!) is a very good emergency vibrator....

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:54

@NutElla5x kicks self.

The lelo ome is amazing!!!!

ichifanny · 23/07/2018 15:55

Never heard of a person suing a sex shop for pregnancy related issues that would be a first . Oh right wait a woman’s sex life is her own business pregnant or not .

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 15:56

@AdventuresRUs I've heard!!! I was proper excited lol!

Another vote for the Hitachi Magic Wand. In addition to being crazy effective (OMG) it's a real quality piece of kit that will last for many years. And you can't beat Amazon for price or service.

I was a bit bonkers randy when I was pregnant too. Good luck!

Haha can’t believe they refused you but served me when I was 15

TheQueef · 23/07/2018 15:58

Prime Now will deliver you the wand, Sean Bean box set, haagen daas and the two stroke oil.

Should sort you right out.

Summersweet · 23/07/2018 15:58

Annoying and frustrating and no doubt one day you will think it funny. Although the shop appear to be wrong it's good to see them taking some interest and responsibility for the goods they sell.

Squidgee · 23/07/2018 16:00

I think the issue is those wands vibrate at a MUCH higher frequency than a normal vibrator. They were designed for massage not sexual pleasure originally.

You'd be fine with a normal vibrator, but i'd avoid the wand for now.

CarlottaAlotta · 23/07/2018 16:01

@Squidgee midwife has said it's absolutely fine and that vibrations are not an issue. It's the orgasm that can be an issue and only in those who are advised not to have them.

Imagine getting not told to have an orgasm in pregnancy that would be a hard few months .
