Sex shop wouldn't sell me vibrator.

NC for this as slightly embarrassing...

Went in to a well known sex shop to buy a vibrator. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and wanted to buy one of the wands. I took it to the till and the woman at the front stated that these vibrators weren't safe for use in pregnancy and wasn't happy selling it to me. Told me it can cause preterm labour. She then pointed me in the direction of something entirely different and said this would be safer as the vibrations are less and it is internal.

I have spoken to my midwife since who has told me it's absolutely fine to use a vibrator. I have no issues with my cervix, no concerns about preterm labour etc. She told me it is actually more dangerous to use a dildo as it can introduce bacteria, which is what the lady in the shop told me to buy instead! Told me that pre term labour CAN be caused by orgasm but only if you have other underlying issues which I do not.

AIBU to go back and ask them to sell it to me? Going on holiday tomorrow morning and really wanted to take it with. Not the end of the world if I can't but would've been nice...

Hmmm I have a lelo (it is amazing but drive is low at the moment so not used as much . When i was more nymph like it was ace).

Anyway I also have very very tight muscles on my lower leg. I wonder if I could just tell the kids its a massager and getg away with it. It would really help wouldnt it!!

But they will forever be wanting the massager... I wouldnt live that down.

But... achey muscles!!! I cant believe it never thought of uaing it before.

Just gonna throw this out there, my waters did break a month early after sex xD
I ended up being in hospital for three days as they tried to induce me and then three more as DS was on antibiotics as they thought he had got an infection from my waters breaking. I also had to take antibiotics as a precaution. I had no underlying problems so it can happen regardless xD though a month early isn't too bad I know

SandysMam · 24/07/2018 06:19

I am the same as Lapenguin...no underlying problems either. I love sex as much as the next person but it’s only a few months, i’m sure a gentle finger will suffice, why take the risk?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 24/07/2018 06:21

I know it’s really annoying
But maybe just maybe the shop assistant was doing this from a place of misguided good intent ?
Rather than 3 trimester horn killer !

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/07/2018 07:46

Ooh I have the Hitachi one and am now wondering if anyone has ever found it useful as an actual back massager, as my sciatica is plaguing me rotten and I never thought to use the wand. Do you just... ahem... massage it over your back or concentrate it stationary on the painful area and let the vibrations do the moving?

Hahahahaha! Brilliant casual resurrection of a zombie thread!

motherheroic · 16/03/2020 08:42

You're midwife says it fine, but the shop obviously doesn't want to take any chances. Order it from somewhere else. Don't bother complaining, that's a ridiculous suggestion. They are just being safe.

motherheroic · 16/03/2020 08:43

@famousforwrongreason Fuck.

WaitingInTheBushesOfLove · 16/03/2020 08:46

@famousforwrongreason
I was having an internal rant about what the hell is the OP thinking going on holiday with the coronavirus risks (and why no one in the comments isn't even mentioning the fact), I then noticed the date! BlushGrin

I hope you had a lovely holiday, OP Grin

PeterPanGoesWrong · 16/03/2020 08:49

Just go back to where you were refused and tell them you are happy to risk it after taking some actual medical advice from a qualified midwife, and should you ever want the advice of a shop assistant you know where to come!
Have a great holiday and enjoy your pregnancy.

SecretsInSpitalfield · 16/03/2020 08:53

I can’t imagine telling my midwife that! Not that I’m judging of course .....

Thanks for all the reports about this one. It's a zombie thread, reactivated by a spammer so we're going to close it.

Hopefully the OP's sorted herself out by now... Wink
