To ask what important things you have accidentally put in the washing machine

I can now add passport laundering, debit card laundering, and oyster card laundering to my CV, all in one day, right before I was supposed to go to the airport. I am still here, I was searching everywhere for these things and couldn’t find them only to realize, they got hot and went for a swim in the washing machine. Thankfully, the debit card is working, I tried it in the ATM and contactless. I haven’t tried the orchestra card, but I hope it’s OK. And I’m trying to dry out my passport. I googled and apparently I’m not the only one who has accidentally put a passport in the washing machine. Please reassure me and tell me about your experiences, and was everything OK in the end? A friend of mine said it was lucky I didn’t put my card in the dryer

Just clothes. I’m an obsessive pocket checker.

hellokittymania · 19/07/2018 18:32

I checked everything yesterday except one thing. Go figure.

My phone. Expensive mistake 😂

hellokittymania · 19/07/2018 18:34

Cunning operative, did you have to buy a new one or was your one able to be saved? Even if it had to be repaired.

I was so upset, I’ve never done anything like this. I’ve left money, tissues, but never ever these things. I’m so glad the debit card is working. They fell out during the walls, and so avoided being put in the dryer.

A ten pound note and a ball point pen that ruined all of dh's white shirts. That was his fault though.
My brother has managed to launder screw drivers, reels of gaffer tape, keys, tonnes of spare change and a whole lot more. I don't think he ever bothered to check his pockets.

MsVestibule · 19/07/2018 18:36

€90 of holiday money that my DH left in shorts pocket 🙄. A €50 note was ruined but the two €20s were salvageable. Of course this gets brought up every time we go on holiday!

takemyheart · 19/07/2018 18:38

A large rock.

takemyheart · 19/07/2018 18:38

The rock wasn't actually important. Just annoying. Grin

Cheerbear23 · 19/07/2018 18:38

Tea bags in a coat pocket - I was taking them to work with me. What a hideous mess to clean up!

ShakingInTheHighCourt · 19/07/2018 18:39

Passport, annoying as it was damaged but not ruined and we had a holiday coming up so I couldn’t risk it and we had to go for an emergency new one.

Any amount of money laundering, cards, poo bags, hearing aids. All came out fine. I need to check more carefully though.

Tissues are the most annoying.

Singlenotsingle · 19/07/2018 18:39

My phone. Didn't do it any good!

PipsM · 19/07/2018 18:40

The tv remote control- it was on the bed when I stripped the bed linen and ended up in the wash. Luckily it didn’t break the machine and when dried out it worked!

ememem84 · 19/07/2018 18:41

Dh’s phone. His gym card. His wallet.

My keys.

iPod.

Headphones.

And a lip balm. That’s as a nice mess...

halfwitpicker · 19/07/2018 18:42

A USB key.

It was fine.

halfwitpicker · 19/07/2018 18:42

A nappy too. That was a mess!

InterstellarSleepingElla · 19/07/2018 18:44

Door keys, but they didn't come harm! The key ring was ruined - child made a finger print key ring on a university outreach day and the finger print is no longer!

AmazingPostVoices · 19/07/2018 18:44

Teabags Cheer. Sad I can’t begin to imagine!!

quackaday · 19/07/2018 18:45

Bundled my phone up in the bed sheets and in it went 🤦🏻‍♀️

2ManyChoices · 19/07/2018 18:46

A nappy, clean, Jesus that gel gets everywhere for at least 70million washes afterwards.
Also, £5000 in cash, belonged to work and was payment from a customer, the phrase money laundering got bandied about for at least the same amount of washes as the fricking gel from the nappy took to wash out Angry

Mrsharrison · 19/07/2018 18:47

my gucci watch but it survived.

RainbowCookie · 19/07/2018 18:49

Brand new iPhone 🙄

hellokittymania · 19/07/2018 18:49

Too many choices, I would not have liked to be in your shoes. For either one of those things.

When National Trust membership cards were still those flimsy papery card things with the info printed on them, I put one through the wash and all of the black ink disappeared.

LaPufalina · 19/07/2018 18:51

Yep, bundled up DH's iPhone in bedding. Bought him a new one to apologise because it had done 2 hours on a 60 degree wash but stuck it in rice and it survived Hmm his nephew has it now!
