To ask what important things you have accidentally put in the washing machine

I can now add passport laundering, debit card laundering, and oyster card laundering to my CV, all in one day, right before I was supposed to go to the airport. I am still here, I was searching everywhere for these things and couldn’t find them only to realize, they got hot and went for a swim in the washing machine. Thankfully, the debit card is working, I tried it in the ATM and contactless. I haven’t tried the orchestra card, but I hope it’s OK. And I’m trying to dry out my passport. I googled and apparently I’m not the only one who has accidentally put a passport in the washing machine. Please reassure me and tell me about your experiences, and was everything OK in the end? A friend of mine said it was lucky I didn’t put my card in the dryer

Chewing gum in DS pants pocket - went all over some clothes and I couldn't get it off Sad

DH once put a bundle of £20 notes in that he'd forgotten to take out of his pants pocket after a customer paid him..... £500 worth!! Luckily they stayed mostly whole with being in a bundle and we very gently separated each one and laid then top of all the radiators around the house - whole new meaning to money laundering Grin

Oh and the tortoise!! I realised before I started the cycle thank fuck...... Confused

ClaraSchumannsCat · 19/07/2018 20:01

The video baby monitor 🤦🏼‍♀️ It didn't survive.
The most embarrassing one was when we had to call the repairman as machine wasn't working. He found four escapee bamboo breast pads stuck.

I’ve washed my wallet. Also, years ago my parents’ washing machine broke mid-wash and got stuck on some kind of boil wash with all of my clothes inside, the day before I was due to go on holiday. I had to get my newly tie dyed clothes out of the still-full, molten water with a stick, then go on a mad dash to buy a few emergency outfits.

I worked in a care home and the person who helps them get changed didn’t check the pockets so we ended up washing a tv remote and glasses...good thing I checked before it went into the dryer and yes the batteries were in!

KindergartenKop · 19/07/2018 20:19

My friend's phone. She was horribly sick due to too much wine. I took her home to mine and washed her clothes including her vomity jacket. It contained her phone!

My mother couldn’t find her hearing aid. It was in the washing machine🙄. Expensive mistake.

wellBeehivedWoman · 19/07/2018 20:29

Over the years my DH has washed:

His iPhone
His passport
OUR MARRIAGE LICENCE
A Swiss Army knife
£70 in cash

He's learned to check pockets now...

Cookiesandcream99 · 19/07/2018 20:35

The cat. She survived as I heard the thumb thumb round the drum. But that 9 minute drain until the door would unlock whilst she pawed at the door was panic inducing.

Moononthehill28 · 19/07/2018 20:37

An alarm clock mixed in with the sheets!

thecatsarecrazy · 19/07/2018 20:46

Dh car key. In my defense our baby son was only a few days old so i blame it on tiredness

Littlemissdaredevil · 19/07/2018 20:47

My car keys!

mimibunz · 19/07/2018 20:49

A tampon, credit card, ciggies, lighter, anything that can fit in a pocket

Youvegotafriendinme · 19/07/2018 21:21

Forever washing lighters, sweet wrappers and tissues.
Worse one was £10000 in cash. My DDad wasn’t best pleased about that Blush

DontCallMeBaby · 19/07/2018 21:30

The gold watch I inherited from my grandmother, who was given it by my dad when he was about 18. Absolutely horrified when that tumbled out of the wash ... it survived, and has been exceptionally shiny ever since.

anothernameagain000 · 19/07/2018 21:32

Phone (scooped up with washing pile) and then... the brand new replacement phone which somehow got caught in with duvet cover (thankfully a long time ago - before all phones cost like £500)

Readyfortheschoolhols · 19/07/2018 21:33

Also put a cat in - but the tumble drier not the washing machine.
She lived.

Pebblespony · 19/07/2018 21:36

I am seriously going to do a cat check on all washes from now on after reading this thread.

Cookiesandcream99 · 19/07/2018 22:11

Washing soap suds off said cat once she was out was more traumatising than the spin in the machine. Ever got in a shower semi naked with and angry feline. CLAWS!

CheekyRedhead · 19/07/2018 22:18

My week old silk Alexander McQueen scarf I'd had for my birthday. Ruined 😭 still not over it

jobbymcginty · 19/07/2018 22:23

Controlled drug keys, passport my dh iPhone pens -there the worst burst all over the washing

shakalaka · 19/07/2018 22:31

My work phone (back in the Nokia brick days) and my TV remote control. TV remote worked again phone dies a horrid death.

FinalNameChange · 19/07/2018 22:36

Traveller's cheques, US$ 200 worth.

I had to argue with a Thomas Cook agent that they needed replacing, as the serial numbers were still readable But they did, I got new ones - (in the US I 'd found that anything someone's experience, they'd reject).

doodlejump1980 · 19/07/2018 22:38

I got a whole heap of steps added to my Fitbit when it went through the wash!

PickAChew · 19/07/2018 22:39

Dh's mp3 player.
Dh's watch. That one pissed me off because the glass shattered and wrecked most of the load.

He's got better at emptying his pockets.
