To think that anyone who still believes in a positive Brexit scenario is nuts?

I feel v anxious about where our shit shower of a government is leading us. I live in a city which is very pro-Remain (although my dad isn't) but I find it very hard to believe that most Brexiters aren't concerned about how negotiations are going.

Or is this just me, in my bubble?

This is what the BCC (British Chamber of Commerce) has to say about last night's VAT ruling:

www.britishchambers.org.uk/news/2018/07/bcc-business-alarm-on-potential-brexit-vat-bombshell

This was put out before the vote.

sonlypuppyfat · 18/07/2018 07:58

So we keep voting to get the result that you want?

CambridgeAnaglypta · 18/07/2018 08:04

Placemats the Guardian is as reliable as the Daily Mail

placemats · 18/07/2018 08:08

No the vote goes again to the people, this time without machinations and abuse on one side, Leave UK, who specifically targeted areas, and a fairer election takes place. Or the Government decide that the referendum was advisory only after all, which the result was and scraps the whole thing.

placemats · 18/07/2018 08:09

What is a reliable paper then Cambridge

The Daily Express?

MissionItsPossible · 18/07/2018 08:09

I hope too many people don’t name change. I’d quite like to remind them of their own hysteria and ask if they’re hoarding food in 12 months time.

MissionItsPossible · 18/07/2018 08:10

There are no reliable newspapers. They all have agendas.

CherryPavlova · 18/07/2018 08:10

Yes sonlypuppyfat. It’s too important and too damaging to start waving flags and getting behind Brexit- whatever that means. Just like the suffragettes had to keep fighting for the vote, those with more than half a brain will have to keep fighting for an end to the idea of Brexit.
We can’t return to the 1950s (when children still died of polio and diphtheria, when it was OK to put up signs saying no blacks or paddys).
We can’t make the country a white ‘Christian’ place because many U.K. citizens are not white and not Christians.
Immigration was behind the Brexit vote because the right wing media have blamed immigration for the failings of a government whose policy was active destruction of the public sector.
Immigration is not the reason for a lack of GPs and crowded hospitals. Tory cuts are. Without immigration we have few NHS (or private healthcare) workers.
We have a very limited manufacturing base and big businesses are leaving the U.K.
The farming and fishing industries will suffer huge financial losses as EU subsidies and trade routes are cut off.
Remind me again of the benefits of Brexit?

CherryPavlova · 18/07/2018 08:11

And Leave only ‘won’ by cheating as demonstrated by a 61K fine and referral to police.

bellinisurge · 18/07/2018 08:17

Op, head on over to the Prepper topic and learn about taking back control of your bubble if things go sideways. We are not tin foil hat wearing zombie predicting gun toting loons. We hope for the best and plan for the not so best.

MissionItsPossible · 18/07/2018 08:17

Nothing compared to 9m

sonlypuppyfat · 18/07/2018 08:20

If you don't think crowded hospitals due to immigration then you are deluded

bellinisurge · 18/07/2018 08:20

Immigration from where @sonlypuppyfat .

bellinisurge · 18/07/2018 08:22

I sadly have to go to a central Manchester hospital every few months. Very few Eastern Europeans there. Not so as you'd notice, anyway.

JellyBears · 18/07/2018 08:26
Hmm
bellinisurge · 18/07/2018 08:26

My E European pal and her family are now British citizens- tax payers etc. The adults in the family have heavy accents despite speaking excellent English. Do you tut at them when you see them at the GPs and in the playground?

MissionItsPossible · 18/07/2018 08:28

@bellinisurge If you are saying your hospital isn’t crowded and there’s few immigrants and @sonlypuppyfat is saying their hospital is crowded and full of immigrants, is one random anecdote from the internet more truthful than the other?

Cismyass · 18/07/2018 08:28

OP was looking for an echo chamber clanging with the sound of bell ends.

bellinisurge · 18/07/2018 08:29

But @sonlypuppyfat hasn't said which immigrants cause overcrowding in hospitals.

SerenDippitty · 18/07/2018 08:29

YANBU YANBU YANBU.

Quietrebel · 18/07/2018 08:29

Onlypuppyfat, no it's not about voting until we get the result we want, it's about the abuse of trust that this referendum actually represents. The people were asked a question and gave their answers based on the assumption that both choices were equally valid and feasible. We know that was a blatant lie, that there was no plan then and still no plan now. The referendum itself should be voided because in fact the government was in no position to ask that question!! They used their legitimate power to do it but without the means to deal with the consequences.
It's not about leavers or remainers really anymore, about who was right or wrong and why. It goes much deeper: the government should act in the best interests of the country and must always be accountable.

So the responsible thing here would be for them to pull the plug on this sorry mess and not hide behind democracy as an excuse (undermining it in the process)

FridayThirteenth · 18/07/2018 08:31

Ffs this is so depressing.

What happens now could affect our country negatively for decades.

That's nothing to do with 'we won blah blah blah'

That's specifically to do with how badly the negotiations are doing

If we don't sort out shit our infant formula could become a luxury

Wtf?

Not to mention we are no clearer on the Open Skies agreement, Euratom, the GFA

All those finding it boring, what if you or a loved one needs cancer treatment that can no longer be provided? This is the real life shit that needs to be sorted now that isn't getting done because of the staggering incompetence and infighting going on in the government

But you know what, I think we probably need to go through this for those leave voters who find it all boring to get enough of a shock to realise the consequences

Shame it will be too late then and our kids futures are fucked up

MissionItsPossible · 18/07/2018 08:31

Just because we have free time right now doesn’t mean everyone does. You asked them 10 minutes ago. I wait longer for replies to texts.

bellinisurge · 18/07/2018 08:33

@MissionItsPossible thanks for policing this thread.

HollyGibney · 18/07/2018 08:33

So we keep voting to get the result that you want?

No, just one more referendum now that we are aware of how much spin and downright lies got people voting to leave and now that have actual factual information at hand.

Out of interest @sonlypuppyfat, you say you want the country to return to how it was when you were young. Can you give some actual examples of that. Genuinely interested in what you are wanting to see the return of. I'm a child of the seventies and eighties and honestly cannot think of a single thing that was better then.
