To be topless around the kids pool?

WaitrosePigeon · 17/07/2018 16:23

Backstory...

On holiday at an all inclusive hotel with kids club etc. Got some tan lines from my bikini so this afternoon took the bikini top off to try and sort them out. DH comes over and says it is inappropriate near the kids pool. I said that he had his top off so why couldn’t I. He said because I was female.

I didn’t put the bikini top back on but is it inappropriate? It’s just boobs?

@NetballHoop I read Paps as Baps. Too invested in this thread, I think!

The last beach/pool holiday I went on was about 17 years ago. Not really my thing. It was Portugal and I don’t remember a lot of topless sunbathing either poolside or on the beach. Went on a couple of such holidays (Italy) in my 20s and the etiquette seemed to be that topless was fine on the beach but not by the pool. I preferred to keep my top on.

"They're called breasts, momma! And every woman has them. "

LoniceraJaponica · 18/07/2018 10:39

Although I am weird and like having tan lines, and I don't have the confidence to go topless myself (I need a bikini to give me some curves), I really don't have an issue with what other women want to do.

Quite frankly, I am astonished at the judgmental posts and hand wringing on here. I very rarely see topless women on holiday, but places like Ibiza and Benidorm don't appeal to me.

SerenDippitty · 18/07/2018 10:46

Those who say breasts aren’t sexual and wish men wouldn’t sexualise them - have you ever wondered why human females have permanent breasts, and other mammals only have them when they are pregnant or lactating?

LoniceraJaponica · 18/07/2018 10:48

Interesting point SerenDippitty
I can't see that they will ever be perceived as non sexual in our society TBH.

I wouldn't be bothered. Toddlers might have cheerfully declared something though. I'd much rather the DC grew up seeing the odd normal looking pair of boobs at the pool than plastic and perky thanks to the internet.

LoniceraJaponica · 18/07/2018 11:11

I agree womaninatightspot
The internet has a lot to answer for. I feel that teenage girls are under way too much pressure to conform to what teenage boys see as the "norm" from watching porn. Their expectations are just too unrealistic.

BrokenWing · 18/07/2018 11:42

Of course men are naturally attracted to breasts, the same way women are naturally attracted to chests, strong shoulders/arms, etc. Doesn't mean men need to hide them all away.

Coco2891 · 18/07/2018 11:43

👏👏👏you've made it to the Daily Mail🙄

User183737 · 18/07/2018 11:51

Who all agree its wrong.

toomanycompartments · 18/07/2018 11:57

isn't it better for children to see real adult women's bodies? I'm sure there is research to support this.

I wouldn't be at all bothered - my mum used to sunbathe topless all the time in the 90s with her 4 kids in tow, and also had a thong!

JacquesHammer · 18/07/2018 12:01

Well if the comments section of the Daily Mail agree it’s wrong, that pretty much means it’s right.

socraties1234 · 18/07/2018 12:07

I don't know why OP came on here a public forum site broadcasting to strangers that she went on holiday and got her breasts out whilst by a children's pool because on the last day of her holiday she didn't want tan lines?

MrsPMT · 18/07/2018 12:19

Wouldn't bother me at all, and yes my teenage son (13) might glance and have a giggle at the first person he sees on hols (and would need reminded not to stare) but that's ok and if it was commonplace (ie other women doing it) it wouldn't matter IMO.

And you won't get many teens at the kids pool tbh

I don't ever any more (need too much support, I can't accept how droopy they are!) but have done when younger abroad.

Clearly, if you read the OP, because her DH challenged her and she's now questioning herself. Why are you so determined to portray her as some kind of narcissistic attention seeker both for going topless and for posting on here? Honestly, she comes across as fairly normal with a sense of humour and doesn't take herself too seriously. You come across as being somewhere between unduly judgemental and completely unhinged.

User183737 · 18/07/2018 12:28

No she doesnt good. It was a goady op at best.

WaitrosePigeon · 18/07/2018 12:40

Good thanks Smile

The weirdos on this thread have made myself and DH have a little chuckle I must admit Grin

Made you DH chuckle? Wasn't he the one who initially deemed it inappropriate and why the whole thread started? Bloody hell other ways to get in the papers.

WaitrosePigeon · 18/07/2018 13:05

He chuckled at the name calling yes Smile

Absolute golden thread @WaitrosePigeon GrinGrin you bap snappeling trollop you!

My kids see many topless women on holiday, they're fine with it. They know it's something that some people do on holiday. I hate tan lines, even if it's just me that sees them.
That's it.
Crack on.

WaitrosePigeon · 18/07/2018 13:26

I know, such an attention seeking floppy titted trollop Grin
