They attacked Alison Moyet when she objected to being called a cis woman...

I find this astonishing ... I'm a huge fan of Alison Moyet's and she has been so supportive of the LGBT community....

You can identify as anything you want these days, except as a woman. Consider what happened to British singer Alison Moyet. Last week, on Twitter, she said she didn’t want to be known as a cis-woman, just as a woman. ‘I defend everyone’s right to have the pronoun that they choose and will honour it’, she diplomatically said. And ‘I do not choose Cis for mine’, she continued. ‘It took women like me long enough to own the title “woman” in the first place. It’s a long enough word for me.’ The response to this calm, clear, polite act of self-definition? Fury. And insult. And abuse. On such a voluble level that Moyet eventually recanted her linguistic heresy, deleted her tweet, and left Twitter."

Moyet's response to being called cis was quite gentle. Yet she got attacked on twitter with a pile of hate tweets and eventually gave up after being assertive but not aggressive with comments like
"I will name you as you identify. Must you afford me less?"

How could they do this?

Frankly it feels like the world has gone mad. I’m a woman I don’t see the need to have to say cis woman.

CeridwensCottage · 16/07/2018 12:15

The term is actually meaningless within the context that they’re using it. They might as well call us ‘netcurtains’ or ‘flobbadobbas’. They’re delusional and exist only in some strange navel gazing speshul snowflake world.

You can’t square the circle and deep down they know it and feel inadequate. Failures as men, can’t be real women and, ultimately, failures as human beings too because people should always retain their dignity and refrain from violence and hatred.

The general population will never buy into their craziness because that’s what it is. Nobody can be forced to believe someone else’s delusion despite how much they tantrum, threat and fulminate.

loveyouradvice · 16/07/2018 12:21

Cottage I hope you are right... I feel very afraid as so many organisations ARE buying in.... whether the Girl Guides letting boys who identify as girls to join them, without telling other parents, even when sharing tents etc when away ... or sports letting men compete as women, and unsurprisingly beating the women ... it was in Connecticut that the first two in a girls 100m race were both boys who identified as girls

It's ridiculous I'm a woman end of anyone tells me different they're discriminating against me

TattyTshirt · 16/07/2018 14:25

The only people who can identify as a woman are men..Fucked up world isn't it?

Hillstreamloach · 16/07/2018 14:32

The odd thing is if she insisted on calling people trans-women they would hate that.

fantasmasgoria1 · 16/07/2018 14:33

I think it’s ridiculous, I am a woman plain and simple I don’t use the term cis for myself or any other woman!

MangoSplit · 16/07/2018 14:35

YANBU. Alison Moyet is fab

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/07/2018 14:35

Because the most vocal transwomen seem to hate women

And love the drama and attention they are getting

But I think their hatred and bizarre claims (men not finding them attractive is becuase they can’t have children, men prefer have sex with them, that they have periods) is driven by jealousy that they can’t be what they really want to be

LanguidLobster · 16/07/2018 14:39

I really like Alison Moyet

KC225 · 16/07/2018 14:45

It's madness. Why would any woman want to be called a cis woman?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/07/2018 14:48

I like Alison Moyet, too. She can actually sing.

Confusssed · 16/07/2018 14:49

I am a woman. I do not even know what cis stands for, or how it is pronounced? It isn't a term I will ever use or recognise. Time to stop aiding and abetting this delusional grand standing.

I don't care what they think they are. I know they are not real women and never will be

IamaBluebird · 16/07/2018 14:49

I find this all more and more difficult to understand. I do try and read all the info that tells us what we should and shouldn't be and say. It's a sad state of affairs when Alison Moyet is attacked for saying what she did.

Barbaro · 16/07/2018 14:53

I reject the title of cis woman. Its beyond stupid. She is right.

SPOFS · 16/07/2018 14:55

Why stop at CIs? Let's also have words for non-elephant, non-robot, non-hamster. Let's introduce everyone by firstly stating what they're not.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/07/2018 14:56

That is disgraceful. I don't think there's every been such a quiet and dignified response as Alison Moyet's and I support her, every single word.

I'm a woman, not a cis-woman not any other sort, simply a woman and that's good enough for me.

Utterly pathetic. I don't care what other people call themselves but if they have that right, so do I and I say that I'm a woman, because I actually am.

CeridwensCottage · 16/07/2018 14:58

The only people who can have an authentic female experience are females. Even if we hate being defined by our biology, we still are and there’s no escaping it. Whatever trans women experience, it can only ever be a facsimile of womanhood.

2+2 will never = 5 and this is why they’re so angry and full of hatred. Spending your life so full of hatred and anger is very damaging to both physical and mental health so they’re not doing themselves any favours. The poison they keep pushing on us is only poisoning them instead.

Once the trans generation of teens and young people grow up and realise their reproductive and physical health is ruined, the tide will turn. It will become A Terrible Thing that irresponsible people in the past allowed to happen.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 16/07/2018 14:59

Yay! Alison Moyet is Spartacus. She's in good company.

TooManyClicks · 16/07/2018 14:59

What does cis even mean? Does it mean biologically born female?

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 16/07/2018 15:02

Love that article though. Spot on.

Worlds0kayestmum · 16/07/2018 15:03

Another who doesn't know what cis means

dueanotherchange · 16/07/2018 15:04

My understanding is that cis means your gender identity is consistent with the sex into which you were born.

So I am a cis-woman, and a woman who was born into the male sex, is a trans-woman.

However I'm with Alison. I'm 'just' a woman and anyone who tries to tell me otherwise can do one.

TerfsUp · 16/07/2018 15:04

My sympathies to Alison Moyet. The abuse she received show how unreasonable TRAs are.

allthgoodusernamesaretaken · 16/07/2018 15:04

TooManyClicks - yes, that's my understanding. I think the idea is that we're all women, but just different sorts eg born as a woman, transitioned to woman etc. As opposed to some people being "real" women, and some not

I don't agree with it, though. I'm with Alison Moyet on this one
