Costa or Starbucks

Sat in Costa today inspired by the mcds thread thinking how much I prefer Starbucks but it's more expensive and Costa has a better loyalty scheme

Costa all the way. Starbucks coffee is too strong and bitter and their syrups have a weird sweet taste, while costa monin syrups compliment the coffees.
I have always had stomach cramps with Starbucks frappes too.

Kool4katz · 16/07/2018 09:43

Nearest Costa or Starbucks are about 90 mins away but I prefer my local little quirky independent anyway as they use organic beans and organic milk and it tastes utterly fabulous and they offer an amazing selection of home made cakes and chocolate dates. Plus the service is very friendly.

Mousefunky · 16/07/2018 10:06

I was always Starbucks until a costa opened close to my work so I went in there more often. I had a Starbucks last year for the first time in a few years and it was vile! Overly sweet and nothing like coffee at all, I think I’m too old for all the sugar now Grin. Costa for me. Only thing I do love at Starbucks is there cheese toastie (although it is overpriced) and the lemon muffin.

Mousefunky · 16/07/2018 10:06

Their not there, tired and need coffee Grin.

Emmasmum2013 · 16/07/2018 10:17

Starbucks!! Caramel Macchiato (sp?) is amazing. And the Pumpkin Spiced Latte in autumn. I like their coffee more than Costa. And the choice seems better too.

And I like the starbucks pods for the Nespresso machine.

KimCheesePickle · 16/07/2018 10:18
  1. Homemade - handground beans + aeropress + milk frother
  2. Independent - our town has loads of fab cafés, zero chains
  3. Pret for cheap americano in next town when shopping
  4. Costa - passable for a perfunctory mediocre coffee
  5. Starbucks - only about once every 3 years if in airport etc. Bland and lukewarm
  6. Nero - awful burnt coffee
WeightedCompanionCube · 16/07/2018 10:23

Costa - it's 2 minutes walk from school and I usually have a shittonne of points on my loyalty card.

Kingkiller · 16/07/2018 10:30

Neither. Independent café, or Nero if I had to pick a chain. I rarely get coffee when I'm out, except my free ones at Booths, which are lovely.

Attic14 · 16/07/2018 10:32

Starbucks. I'm a hot choc fan and the Costa ones are RANK

onelittleclara · 16/07/2018 10:34

Neither. Costa's coffee is weak and insipid so if I have to accompany someone I have a cortado. I always leave Costa feeling rather sickly. Never bothered with Starbucks much as I would much prefer to see more independents rather than the million Costa/Starbucks that seem the only options on most high streets. My chain of choice is Neros. Much much better coffee, and atmosphere. To be fair I would question the hygiene in all the different chains Confused

onelittleclara · 16/07/2018 10:35

Oh and Pret is good too, but miles away from where I live.

Loonoon · 16/07/2018 10:37

I agree that Starbucks coffee tastes burnt. Costa decaf Americano for me.

IndigoSpritz · 16/07/2018 10:51

Wetherspoons coffee is excellent value. I'm in my local now where it's self service cappuccino, latte, flat white etc and tea and just hot water, if you want. £1.25 and unlimited refills. Excellent.

Notmorewashing · 16/07/2018 18:44

Starbucks ! Costa tastes burnt to me and they never have any sugar free syrups !!! And the food selection is crap!!!

bruffin · 16/07/2018 19:08

Notmorewashing
Costa syrups are all being replaced with artificial sweeteners and their lemonades. The last gingerbread latte i had tasted awful because of AS .

luckycat007 · 16/07/2018 19:11

Starbucks for coffee. Costa for tea.

Riotgrrrrrl · 16/07/2018 20:26

200 degrees coffee is the best

JustDanceAddict · 16/07/2018 20:27

Starbucks for coffee and Costa for a sarnie.

OftenHangry · 16/07/2018 20:30

Neither. It is always an independent for me, but if there really is none around (very rare) it's nero.

CaseFace30 · 16/07/2018 20:30

I prefer the range or drinks Starbucks offers.
Although I was partial to the black Forrest hit chocolate from Costa at Christmas.

MismatchedStripySocks · 16/07/2018 21:16

Cafe Nero 😂

Racecardriver · 16/07/2018 21:24

I can't stand Costa. Don't love Starbucks but it will do.

LaurieMarlow · 16/07/2018 21:30

Not that I'm an advocate for SB or anything, but you do know you that non sugary options are available, don't you? Just get an americano.

TulipsInAJug · 16/07/2018 21:32

Costa coffee is weak but I quite like it - agree that Starbucks is too bitter. Costa hot chocolate is very nice.

Our local Cafe Nero is filthy and rats were filmed running around on top of the counter at night. Yuck.

FishingIsNotASport · 16/07/2018 21:38

Neither for me. We always seek out independent coffee shops/cafes to spend our money in (she said smugly). We tried a Portuguese coffee shop in our town last weekend, it was brilliant - got chatting to the regulars from Portugal (quite a large community in our town which was a surprise), and were offered some Portuguese custard pastries for free.
