Sat in Costa today inspired by the mcds thread thinking how much I prefer Starbucks but it's more expensive and Costa has a better loyalty scheme

Taylors :)

user1457017537 · 15/07/2018 18:50

Costa haven’t had a Starbucks since 9/11

Jozxyqk · 15/07/2018 18:51

Of those two... Costa. But preferably I'd go to an independent if possible, or Nero.

cloudyweewee · 15/07/2018 18:52

I prefer the local coffee shop run by the parish church. The loos are cleaner, there's more room, it's cheaper and you get a panoramic view of the High Street.

Jozxyqk · 15/07/2018 18:56

Bloody hell. I never knew about Starbucks and the 9/11 water charge. That's appalling.

MsSquiz · 15/07/2018 18:56

Costa for hot chocolate and crispy chocolate caramel things.

Starbucks for coffee (hot and cold), Frappuccinos and iced tea

MrsGB2225 · 15/07/2018 18:57

Costa! Starbucks is the worst. Nero the best by far though

Sidelook · 15/07/2018 19:08

Costa is better, starbucks coffee is rank and has a bitter taste.

Moominfan · 15/07/2018 19:15

Never knew that about starbucks and 9/11 Confused

Nero every time if there are no available independents. I'll use Costa or Starbucks but not if the above are available

Mummadeeze · 15/07/2018 19:18

I only have non dairy Frappuccino’s because of allergies but Starbucks is better than Costa on that front. Before I had my allergies (as they only started this year) I also used to love the rocky road biscuit bar in Starbucks. I miss those!

iveburntthetoast · 15/07/2018 19:23

If I go to a chain it would be Caffè Nero. Out of the two, it would definitely be Costa. Starbucks is awful.

TicketyBoo83 · 15/07/2018 19:31

SweetPotato

Costa don’t use pods for their coffee, beans are ground on the premises. The only thing that remotely resembles a ‘pod’ is the decaf coffee teabag style thingy. And if the barista is using 1 for a large coffee then they’re doing it wrong.

n0ne · 15/07/2018 19:35

I hate Starbucks. Their coffee is bitter and their business practices are shitty. Costa all the way.

Hedwig86 · 15/07/2018 19:39

I slightly prefer Starbucks but both are fine and I try to avoid buying American where I can so would usually go Costa.

lljkk · 15/07/2018 19:43

They all stink of coffee.

jarhead123 · 15/07/2018 19:44

Costa 100%

MrsClutterworth · 15/07/2018 19:45

Starbucks is too strong! Costa over the past few months seems to be going downhill, they seem to just hire any 'barista' who can't even make a decent cup of coffee! Cafe Nero is quite sickening. Best place to get a coffee? GreggsGrin I LOVE coffee and that is by far the best.

Bunchofdaffodils · 15/07/2018 19:46

Nero!

JaceLancs · 15/07/2018 19:47

Nero is my first choice
Then costa
I don’t like Starbucks coffee at all

Honeyroar · 15/07/2018 19:48

I only ever use chain coffee houses in airports or on motorways. Ive avoided Starbucks for years due to their tax situation, although did occasionally use their Drive through ones. I like Nero but the one I use is so slow.

Ive just googled re tax and Costa does pay. Nero is doing its best to avoid too, it said. It was a 2018 article.

Stuckinthis · 15/07/2018 19:48

I would choose Nero’s if I had to pick a chain - Costa next as it’s the most local to me and was my coffee shop on the way to work in my last address.

HOWEVER, good independent EVERY TIME! We have lovely coffee here from a very popular independent that’s expanding all over the city. I’m thrilled it’s even moving into my workplace in upcoming months.

Sassy306 · 15/07/2018 19:49

Here's mine in order of preference:

McDonald's flat white
Costas coconut cappuccino
Greggs cappuccino
Subway cappuccino

Never Starbucks, the beans taste singed!

P.s one of the best coffees I've ever had is from the machine at Ikea, it's awesome :)

LearningCrochetTipsNeeded · 15/07/2018 19:49

Costa for me. My local one is super allergy aware whereas my local starschmucks isnt

llangennith · 15/07/2018 19:51

Starbucks Frappuccinos.
I rarely drink hot coffee but when I do I prefer Costa.
