to wonder why people buy expensive toilet paper?

Confused

Shops have almost a whole aisle dedicated to the toilet paper. We always buy the cheapest ones we can find (usually own brand), and I can't understand why people spend so much money on branded loo roll. You're literally only using it to wipe yourself and throw down the toilet.

Am I missing something here?

We use supermarket own brand recycled. Perfectly adequate for purpose.

Slartybartfast · 15/07/2018 11:03

because my bottom gets sore when wiping with cheap, rough paper. i dont stretch to andrex but my bottom copes with waitrose

MardAsSnails · 15/07/2018 11:03

I usually have the shits 2-3 days a week (I know how to managed by issues, I just sometimes, well, don’t.)

I need nice bog roll. It hurts otherwise.

Slartybartfast · 15/07/2018 11:04

isnt the answer rather obvious though op?

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 15/07/2018 11:05

I don't buy it because I have a 2 year old who regularly shoves entire rolls in to loo or unravels them around the house for shits and giggles.
However I can appreciate it. My DM buys verrrry posh loo paper and it's like a little slice of heaven on my nethers. You need less of it and it's far more durable. Definitely a difference. I feel the comparison is akin to the Peter Kaye hobnob vs rich tea biscuit piece.

Bluelonerose · 15/07/2018 11:05

I'm still bewildered who buys the coconut flavour loo roll Confused

I don't like the cheapest but the next one up is fine.

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2018 11:05

Waitrose's own brand is fine.

I saw red loo roll in Tesco's. Shock

redfairy · 15/07/2018 11:06

I find cheap loo roll a false economy. That said I usually go for supermarket luxury brand as opposed to Andrex and the like.

FearOfFrogs · 15/07/2018 11:07

I get my loo roll from here.

A roll lasts twice as long as a bog standard supermarket one, it is environmentally friendly and provides toilets in the developing world from its profits. It is great quality and really good value for money.

argumentativefeminist · 15/07/2018 11:07

Andrex quilted is the one luxury I allow myself 😂 the quality you need depends on how often you're using it! If you're a regular pooper but use very cheap loo roll, it can make you sore and cause little cuts/friction burn.

RJnomore1 · 15/07/2018 11:07

The shea butter one is a revelation.

Try it and you'll see. It's especially wonderful when I have my period and might be using a lot of it and the normal stuff ends up chafing.

There is also a difference between the own brand and Andrex. It's like little cushions of kindness. At 42 my bavksude deserves some kindness.

I can’t afford a lot of treats for myself.

But I do afford myself a nice roll of toilet paper.

FASH84 · 15/07/2018 11:11

If I buy thin flimsy toilet paper we use it twice as quickly so it's a false economy. I don't buy super expensive and not quilted (DB, plumber says it causes all kinds of plumbing issues). I like the own brand with Shea butter or aloe Vera as they smell nice or andrex when it's on offer.

Fluffyears · 15/07/2018 11:12

The shea butter and coconut oil ones gave me thrush. I have Ibs so I get the shits frequently and use a lot of loo roll. The cheap scratchy stuff takes the skin off.

SandyFagina · 15/07/2018 11:12

Because it doesn't slice your flaps to ribbons.

Meandyouandyouandme · 15/07/2018 11:12

I think the more expensive toilet roll produces less dust, so my bathroom isn’t as dusty when I buy quilted toilet rolls, so less cleaning!

FASH84 · 15/07/2018 11:13

@RJnomore1 the Shea butter one is my favourite!

noenergy · 15/07/2018 11:13

Cheap ones fall apart and are less economical.

Cushelle are the best. Although out of the cheaper ones I find Nicky best, that's what I get the kids

Urubu · 15/07/2018 11:15

Andrex quilted is soooo nice!
And you use less of it than cheaper ones. I do try basic ones sometimes and am always amazed at how much more I use.

Bunbunbunny · 15/07/2018 11:15

I have ibs, end up using more than double if we have the cheap stuff during an attack. There is always deals on loo roll so you don’t have to go for the cheapest. Look on my supermarket

shakingmyhead1 · 15/07/2018 11:17

i get good loo paper as i sometimes need to poop several times a day so i dont want something rough making my butt feel even worse off than it already can do on a bad day

WindyWednesday · 15/07/2018 11:18

Sainsburys own brand is awful for dust.

Doyoumind · 15/07/2018 11:19

I agree that cheap paper is a false economy. You just use more. I don't ever buy the really premium stuff but buy own label rolls that are thick enough to do the job and not to harsh on the skin.

lidoshuffle · 15/07/2018 11:23

My plumber recommended the thinnest paper you can get as the quilty stuff blocks the drains (but good for his business!).
