to wonder why people buy expensive toilet paper?

Confused

Shops have almost a whole aisle dedicated to the toilet paper. We always buy the cheapest ones we can find (usually own brand), and I can't understand why people spend so much money on branded loo roll. You're literally only using it to wipe yourself and throw down the toilet.

Am I missing something here?

I buy 'naice' tp as my pregnancies have left me with recurring piles and I need something soft down there otherwise I scratch and start bleeding during flare ups.

I may rethink my quilted tp choices after hearing about the plumbers recommendations though.

18 rolls for £3.49 in home bargains
Perfectly fine loo roll.

blackbirdbluebottle · 15/07/2018 12:28

Some cheap paper hurts a lot so some people maybe more sensitive. Others might just have a larger disposable income and buy it so it is softer on their rich ass

steff13 · 15/07/2018 12:28

I am the person that buys the coconut flavoured one! I like it because it makes the bathroom smell nice!

I'm confused about the coconut flavored toilet paper. I don't think we have that here. Is it coconut flavored, or is it coconut scented? It's not actually edible, is it?

Chardonnay: If it only functioned better for the purpose! Anyway, I don't have free newspaper in the house these days. Also, having spent a lot of time in Greece growing up, the idea of not flushing it does not appeal. Believe me, those poo-paper bins in loos are just horrid and burning it would have to be done outdoors, since we don't have a fireplace, hence no heating properties enjoyed.

Bluelady · 15/07/2018 12:28

My mum reackoned quilted paper was too soft! I'm an Andrew girl, some things are worth paying for.

steff13 · 15/07/2018 12:30

Oh, and I do by the more expensive stuff. I have IBS, so can have frequent trips to the bathroom. The rough stuff is agony. Both of our toilets have bidet attachments now, though, so we use less toilet paper than we used to.

CookPassBabtridge · 15/07/2018 12:32

I buy cheap and use wet wipes too. After living outside of the UK where they have mini shower heads next to the toilet to wash your bum, I can't go back to using just toilet paper! So yes I'd never buy expensive stuff as it still doesn't do the job properly.

bluemascara · 15/07/2018 12:32

I find them all the same on the whole
Misses point of thread

hattiebugatti · 15/07/2018 12:32

I don't buy cheap, but not expensive either. We get Morrisons own (quilted with aloe vera.)

2 packs of 9 rolls for six quid. Lasts about 6 weeks to 2 months in our house.

Enko · 15/07/2018 12:33

I suffer from IBS and often get very sore so nice thick toilet paper helps a lot with not wanting to cry out in pain when using it.

happymummy12345 · 15/07/2018 12:33

Because I like it to be soft. I don't buy cheap.

hattiebugatti · 15/07/2018 12:33

LOL @bluemascara

SOMEONE was bound to say that! Grin

Enko · 15/07/2018 12:34

I bulk buy from Amazon btw so its not as expensive as people think

brizzledrizzle · 15/07/2018 12:35

I buy Andrex as it's lovely and soft but I buy it in bulk online and get a discount (members of a wholesale place) so it's cheaper than the cheap crap in the supermarket.

steff13 · 15/07/2018 12:35

CookPassBabtridge, you know you can buy those little showerheads to attach to your own toilet. Amazon has them, I'm sure other places do too. They're inexpensive and easy to install.

Honeyroar · 15/07/2018 12:37

Cheap paper isn't always hard or rough. I've never had any cuts or scrapes off toilet paper, I'm amazed so many have. We have a septic tank. Thicker paper causes blockages and doesn't rot doen so well.

I remember the tracing paper loo roll, we had it at my primary school. Hideous stuff!

Fauxgina · 15/07/2018 12:39

Whoever thought that really nasty greaseproof paper was good for bathroom use clearly did not have a vagina. I know men complained about it needing to use it to clean up after a poo but honestly, the memory of using it for a wee as a woman makes me wince. It's probably what broke my hymen Shock

user1487194234 · 15/07/2018 12:41

Ion the grand scheme of things it's not much of a saving and I prefer to buy expensive than cheap, personal choice

Mari50 · 15/07/2018 12:42

I buy expensive toilet paper, always have, even when I was skint as a student. Can not stand the feel of cheap paper and you go through twice as much. I used to live with a friend and it pissed me off no end when she bought cheap loo roll when it was her turn to replenish, but she soon converted after a month using good stuff.....

vampirethriller · 15/07/2018 12:43

Cheap toilet roll- false economy. I get a more expensive brand but I buy them from Savers or Body Care where they're usually cheap anyway.

BrokenWing · 15/07/2018 12:45

I find the cheap stuff disintegrates during wiping as soon as it hits anything slightly wet so we use andrex, we have also toddler wipes (much cheaper than moist adult wipes) to finish off for that extra bit of freshness. Much gentler on piles too Blush, although ds(14) hides them when friends visit!!

GetOffTheTableMabel · 15/07/2018 12:47

FearofFrogs - thanks so much for posting that link. Will be buying from WhoGivesACrap in future.

ThePricklySheep · 15/07/2018 12:47

I was pondering the price per sheet too, went into the Sainsbury’s app to look and found that the way they display it is price per 100 sht.

I keep reading it as price per 100 shits.
