to wonder why people buy expensive toilet paper?

Confused

Shops have almost a whole aisle dedicated to the toilet paper. We always buy the cheapest ones we can find (usually own brand), and I can't understand why people spend so much money on branded loo roll. You're literally only using it to wipe yourself and throw down the toilet.

Am I missing something here?

Why did bidets stay in the 70s? I kind of like the idea of a nice rinse instead of a wipe.

Passthecake30 · 15/07/2018 15:42

I get thrush and dp gets piles with cheap loo roll

ReadingRiot · 15/07/2018 15:43

I work in school and buying cheap loo roll (for staff) is the fastest way to mutiny Grin

You have to be careful with loo roll that appears cheap though, often the roll doesnt have as many sheets and if it's thin, then people use more of it.

I stock up when Charmin is on offer - I you can use it to give the loo a quick spritz and wipe with antibac everyday without it breaking up like cheaper ones do and it's more flushable and much cheaper than wipes

@bluelonerose @sickmumma Me too! I love the Tesco coconut one...I can't be doing with scratchy paper!

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 15/07/2018 16:08

i got some cheap news paper to do paper Mache' with and it's horrible, totally disintergrates at the first contant with water.

MY normal toilet paper is massivly expensive but it's far better than the totally cheap stuff.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 15/07/2018 16:10

Actually is any one here from Russia?
I have a friend who says that apparently misses russian toilet paper, it's apparently more rough.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/07/2018 16:13

Because I use nearly a whole roll when I have a pool, less with better quality. I prefer nice toilet paper it feels better.

CookPassBabtridge · 15/07/2018 16:22

Bum hose isn't messy at all, you literally point it in the desired place and it washes it all off in seconds, use toilet paper to dry and it always comes back clean. It was so refreshing on hot days! They feel nice too Blush Thanks to whoever said they sell them on amazon!

crispysausagerolls · 15/07/2018 16:28

Loo roll is something I would never economise on, like ketchup or baked beans which both have to be Heinz. The only rolls I can handle are the Waitrose cashmere quilted touch ones - all else pales in comparison. I just don’t want some horrible scratchy thing down there when I wipe!

WindyWednesday · 15/07/2018 16:30

We had tracing paper loo roll as a child. Like Izal.

It was called bronco. It was in sheets. It wasn’t very good at cleaning as I recall.

DF still uses it.

KokoandAllBall · 15/07/2018 16:31

Cheap loo roll sheds like crazy and you end up picking bits off your nethers. I'd rather pay a bit more for quilted. That's why there are options for all of us I suppose...

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 15/07/2018 16:35

anyone remember the old brown school toilet paper that was like grease proof paper?

GunpowderGelatine · 15/07/2018 16:36

TMI ALERT

I have IBS and piles, my bottom has been through enough lately it deserves a nice Velvety treat

TentUpFirstBunkUpLater · 15/07/2018 16:36

Quilted bog roll blocks the shitter.

Andrex white is the best (blue)

chickedychicked · 15/07/2018 16:36

My arse deserves better than cheap paper.

Ollivander84 · 15/07/2018 16:37

Cheap stuff here. Quilted doesn't disintegrate well, coconut/aloe/bloody magic tree scented gave me my first UTI and kidney infection work insist on scented Hmm

SplitChick · 15/07/2018 16:38

I've learnt not to buy expensive paper when you have a toddler living at home 😂 I usually buy it for £1.20 (Tesco for 6 rolls) it's not the cheap kind, it's soft.

GerdaLovesLili · 15/07/2018 16:40

Another vote for Nicky (very reasonable price, good quality) or Iceland's own brand which I think is Nicky rebranded.

GunpowderGelatine · 15/07/2018 16:46

Love the Who Gives A Crap site - gonna try it out!

GunpowderGelatine · 15/07/2018 16:56

Like normal greaseproof paper. Apparently you can still get it from some places. How that would clean your bum - I just can't fathom!

takes me back to school!

alwaysme22 · 15/07/2018 16:56

I'd love to try the who gives a crap bamboo paper, but does it block drains?

When we first moved here years ago we had constantly blocked drains until I read somewhere that it was probably the toilet paper. And it was!!

Changed to a toilet paper that breaks up if you run a piece under the cold tap. Never had blocked pipes since. Does anyone know if the bamboo version breaks up under running water please?

4yearsnosleep · 15/07/2018 17:43

We use more cheap toilet paper as it years or goes soggy too quickly. I buy value brands for most things but only quilted toilet rolls. Cheap toilet rolls are terrible

Notquiteagandt · 15/07/2018 17:53

Cheap loo roll has this weirid sheen to it. No where near as absorbant.

TantricTwist · 15/07/2018 18:19

My DS complained the other day when I got cheap loo roll in an emergency that it hurt his bottom which is fair enough.

I hated it to so have bought a giant bumper pack of our usual mid range loo paper.
Some people just have more sensitive skin.

Would one search for "bum hose" or something different? Asking for a friend....
