To Not Want England To Win The World Cup.

I am not English I am Welsh and rarely support English teams, but I have got caught up in the excitement of the teams achievements and until yesterday thought it would be fabulous if they did actually win the World Cup.

Then I saw the damage caused across the country but so called fans so called celebrating the quarter final win and thought God forbid they win what the hell will happen across country when the yobs celebrate that!

I also think that 'young lady' photographed jumping on an ambulance along with her companions and the ones photographed on bus shelters should be named shamed and charged with criminal damage and the same goes for anyone else who does not know how to celebrated in decent law abiding way.

This is a very disappointing reaction to what should be a happy and proud celebration

Now we see the trashing pix. The bloke looks like a tourist cyclist and the girl looks like she's tiptoeing along for an Instagram. Hopefully the Blance wasn't too damaged by this - if at all.

Bloody hell - I was looking for planks, coshes, bricks and screaming 'gammons' with white and red faces.

Japanese · 08/07/2018 20:01

@pettcott - um, steady on there with the Japanese frothing. I am not actually Japanese. It's just my username.

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 20:04

So you are welsh op and you start a post that says ‘you hope England don’t win the world cup’ because a tiny minority of thugs behave badly as do many of all nationalities around the world.

My mum is welsh and supporting England in the absence of wales.

Out of interest how did you think this thread would be received and how on earth do you not think you come across as racist even if you say you arnt?

candlefloozy · 08/07/2018 20:09

The problem is, people who don't normally watch football and don't normally drink get caught up in the hype and go a bit mad. the rest of the time they couldn't care less.

Boulshired · 08/07/2018 20:09

There are pissed people every Saturday night in every town centre and after spending time in Cardiff it is no different there either. It’s only making the news because of the football and people linking them together.

SerenDippitty · 08/07/2018 20:12

I am Welsh. Rugby is my game rather than football. I cannot bring myself to support the England rugby team in any circumstances. But I do support the England football team.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/07/2018 20:17

@Racecardriver I can't say I have but then I'm not determined to blame everything on football fans. I actually realise it's the minority who do these things and the rest of us enjoy the match.

The more posts I read on here the more I want England to win!

categed · 08/07/2018 20:17

Has there been lots of hoolaganism this time? Sorry i have just come back from camping so not really caught up.
Good for England, they appear to be doing fantastically, why shouldn't people be proud of their team and fly their flag? I am proud of Scotland, even though we aren't great at sport. I take pride in our flag so why shouldn't the English!
These pictures look to be of people who got carried away on the success of their team, it's been a long wait, they made bad choices and were idiots. Far from the hooligans of the 80s and 90s though.
My dh supports hibs and people went mad at their behaviour after winning the cup. Much bandaying about of hooligans and thuggery when in realty, like the English fans, they got carried away. Yes punish those who overstepped but don't blame a country.

Unihorn · 08/07/2018 20:17

I'm Welsh with an English husband so am supporting him and his team as he supported mine in the Euros. I don't agree that there's an obligation to support England because they're a home nation necessarily. As a Chelsea fan I wouldn't back another team if they were in the FA cup over Chelsea. I didn't support Liverpool in the Champions League after Chelsea were knocked out for example. I don't think there's much difference.

The reason a lot of the other home nations "hate" the English football team is because the media is a joke. The BBC have received hundreds of complaints about their biased coverage of any England game and claim that they would cover Wales, Scotland and NI in the same way. I'm sorry but I think that's absolute bullshit. From 7am on Saturday morning BBC Breakfast talked about England Vs Sweden for almost 2 hours in total. I'm a massive football fan and even I was fed up by the end of it. They were asking everyone's opinion even when they were on air to talk about something completely different eg. Vince Cable on Brexit. They kept cutting to Wimbledon and talking about the football, interviewing tennis fans asking them what they were going to do at 3pm. There's no way they would do the same for the rest of the home nations. I didn't see Wales Vs Portugal running as HEADLINE news on every channel. There are 11 year olds stuck in a cave in Thailand and two more people poisoned, not to mention other pressing issues, but apparently the England game needed to be referenced first on every news channel. And don't get me started on the horrendously biased commentary.

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 20:23

RoseWhiteTips

You hate the English flag for what it represents? Odfod. Every nation has done unspeakable acts as well as fantastic ones. Grow up

BonnieF · 08/07/2018 20:23

I have been an England fan for over 30 years. I hope we win the World Cup, but It’s unlikely. Even if we beat Croatia, France or Belgium will provide an entirely different level of opposition.

I will also be relieved when the World Cup is over, and we can have our game back. I’m a season ticket holder at a Championship club, and I can't wait for the new season to start.

I’m sick of all the bandwagon jumping numpties singing ‘football‘s coming home’ who had never heard of Jordan Pickford or Harry Maguire three weeks ago.

I’m sick of the ridiculous media hype.

But most of all, I’m sick of reading patronising Guardian articles projecting their guilt-ridden middle class identity politics bullshit onto working class football culture.

Gin0clock · 08/07/2018 20:27

Harold. : metropolitan police & LAS don’t agree with you, there are statements from both & pictures of said damaged ambulance.

RoseWhiteTips · 08/07/2018 20:29

Odfod

Charming. I rest my case.

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 20:30

BonnieF

Why On earth are you reading the awful Guardian rag. It’s like a dementor to you. Desist and by wed you will be singing ‘its coming home’ with the rest of us.

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 20:30

RoseWhiteTips

Good glad you see sense when it’s pointed out to you.

nancy75 · 08/07/2018 20:33

unihorn of course the commentary is going to be biased, Gary Linekar is hardly going to sit there telling everyone he wants Sweden to win ( just as I’m sure the Swedish commentators weren’t hoping for an England win)

RoseWhiteTips · 08/07/2018 20:34

@Seasawride

You don’t do irony, either?🤣

RoseWhiteTips · 08/07/2018 20:35

Nor full stops, it seems!

RoseWhiteTips · 08/07/2018 20:37

Good. Glad etc.

HTH

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 20:39

No I just can’t stand people who talk utter bollocks about not liking the English flag. It’s silly self indulgent and racist

jasjas1973 · 08/07/2018 20:39

Exuberant football fans.....

Smash up an Ambulance and its called "exuberance" jeez. as i said its a thugs game.

augustusglupe · 08/07/2018 20:41

I live in North Wales OP and not a single thing you say surprises me.
Your a right nasty, drunken, racist bunch from what I’ve seen over the years, aren’t you!?
My DH (who’s Welsh incidentally) despairs of your type, he’s embarrassed by you!! We’re moving back to England and he can’t bloody wait!!
Hes been cheering England on with me!! C’mon England!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

midnightmisssuki · 08/07/2018 20:42

Don’t be so silly OP. Do you actually realise it’s a tiny amount of fools that behave in such a silly way? The whole country isn’t jumping up and down on busses/ambulances/cars. 🤨
