To Not Want England To Win The World Cup.

I am not English I am Welsh and rarely support English teams, but I have got caught up in the excitement of the teams achievements and until yesterday thought it would be fabulous if they did actually win the World Cup.

Then I saw the damage caused across the country but so called fans so called celebrating the quarter final win and thought God forbid they win what the hell will happen across country when the yobs celebrate that!

I also think that 'young lady' photographed jumping on an ambulance along with her companions and the ones photographed on bus shelters should be named shamed and charged with criminal damage and the same goes for anyone else who does not know how to celebrated in decent law abiding way.

This is a very disappointing reaction to what should be a happy and proud celebration

@pinksparklypussycat no shit! But have you noticed that it happens much more when England play and win?

BitchQueen90 · 08/07/2018 19:09

An English flag represents what you want it to represent. Some idiots have chosen it to represent racism. That doesn't mean that everybody else should be ashamed of having one up for the world cup.

Imagine having the energy to waste hating a flag of all things. I'd hate to be that bitter. Hmm

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/07/2018 19:10

Northern Ireland is certainly part of the U.K.

KokoandAllBall · 08/07/2018 19:12

It's put a dampener on it for me too. It was all going so well - and then it had to start turning shit as always. Letting people spill out into the roads the first time without admonishing them was a mistake, because people saw it go viral on social media and it became a thing "this is what we do after an England win, we take over the roads and harass drivers". But messing with an ambulance vehicle was too far. The knobheads never know when to stop.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 08/07/2018 19:14

No one jumped on an ambulance yesterday. The picture is over five years old.

Kewcumber · 08/07/2018 19:15

But I am so fucked off with being despised by the Irish, Scots and Welsh.

I'm Wenglish and would generally support Wales vs England as I gre up there. But all my Welsh friends have been right behind this England team (partly becasuse they and GS seem like a nice bunch and aren't at all self important) and are very much enjoying Enlgnads success at the football so far. But you can continue with the negativity if it makes you feel better.

OP - I think you're seeing the kind of bloddy nonsense that happens every weekend with pissed up yobs (or both sexist), it was just dressed in football and covered by the press this time. Saldy if you talk to someone who works in the emergency servies you'll find it was just a marginally exaggerated normal weekend.

Annoying and i wish we could do something about the drinking culture in this country but by no means down to football.

Will also be trying to find our St Georges cross to put up this weekend - the more normal non-racist thigs who use it the better.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/07/2018 19:15

I would love that to be true Harold but where’s the proof?

WowLookAtYou · 08/07/2018 19:16

How do you know that, Harold? It wouldn't have occurred to me, until another poster mentioned it and I then noticed the Shard windows and lack of current fashion.

ManicUnicorn · 08/07/2018 19:18

This is the reason I fell out of love with football, after loving it as child and teen. The nastiness and thugishness associated with it puts me right off. You don't ever see it with rugby or cricket and the fans can be absolutely hateful with each other, mocking tragedies like Hillsborough and Munich to get one over on each other. What does that achieve please tell me? It's sick.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 08/07/2018 19:20

Agree that the flag needs to be reclaimed and ordinary people flying it in support of their team will do that.

As an aside, the worst train journey I've ever experienced was the one where I was with a load of pissed up Welsh rugby supporters - they pissed on the seats, groped people, puked, got violent and ultimately got turfed off and arrested by the transport rozzers. Does that mean I want their team to lose? No, because i know that the team and the many many people who cheer them on without incident are not responsible for the actions of a few dickheads.

HateIsNotGood · 08/07/2018 19:21

Does anyone remember the Football Hooligan culture of the 70s/80s?
Where every other Saturday people would be hiding from the hordes of supporters from both teams if they lived near a stadium/football ground - which were smaller and often surrounded closely by residential. The organized hooliganism of the ICF (Inter-City Firm)?. I saw it in England and I saw it in Scotland - nearly all between 'same country' teams - nothing to do with Engerlund, racism or nationalism. Celtic vs Rangers were some of the most violent - it was/is linked to the Catholic/Protestant divide that many experienced daily in NI.

So, believe it or not, it's actually improved over the years.

Kewcumber · 08/07/2018 19:24

If in doubt about the flag follow this handy questionnaire

To Not Want England To Win The World Cup.
SoddingUnicorns · 08/07/2018 19:26

Kewcumber I like that!

actuallyquitesmall · 08/07/2018 19:30

What bugs me is that the Scots, the Welsh, and the Irish (both lots) are extremely patriotic and are proud to be from those nations.

So how come anyone English who tries to do the same is branded either racist or xenophobic (and frequently both)?

SoddingUnicorns · 08/07/2018 19:31

So how come anyone English who tries to do the same is branded either racist or xenophobic (and frequently both)?

The thing is, that shit gets chucked at us too. Everyone is getting so wound up about slights against their own country that they can’t see the ones aimed at others!

Isawthelight · 08/07/2018 19:32

YANBU.

Shameful behaviour...no amount of "not all English fans behave like this" will excuse it. It's just to be expected now, whether they win or lose.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/07/2018 19:35

Kewcumber Grin a very handy guide.

Troubleandstrifebagforlife · 08/07/2018 19:36

Oh come on lighten up
My kids are early twenties and are so so happy as are we and I am fully Irish
What fun what a lift a tiny minority of fools who would be involved some other skulduggery should not bring us down.
Come on England !,,,,

surferjet · 08/07/2018 19:39

We’re English - but if Wales, Scotland, or N.I were in the World Cup we’d be cheering them on too.

KokoandAllBall · 08/07/2018 19:45

No one jumped on an ambulance yesterday. The picture is over five years old.

Has anyone confirmed that, because regional emergency services are still posting about it on twitter.

But even if that one's not true, we have the people who threw themselves on a moving car and almost caused it to crash into pedestrians, the guy who fell through a bus shelter roof which must now be repaired, reports of people throwing projectiles outside pubs in several towns, and a cabbie who says his taxi is too dented to be driven.

KittyVonCatsworth · 08/07/2018 19:46

I was going to mention the 80’s ‘casual’ movement in particular the Celtic v Rangers games, Rangers v Aberdeen etc. I believe the English supporters have behaved impeccably in Russia. Russia is renowned for its holliganism and only because they’ve been threatened within an inch of their lives are they supposedly behaving.

It is appalling behaviour without a doubt and it certainly doesn’t do the England team any favours which is a shame because they’ve played out of their skin. I do think it’s just another way for the Welsh and Scots to have a cheap pop. I can’t speak for the Irish because my in laws are behind England to win.

I used to work in pubs many moons ago back home in Scotland and the Welsh rugby weekends were absolutely the worst behaviour I’d seen, I’d take the English over that any day (I’m Scottish). In essence, people shouldn’t start slinging shit around unless their smells of roses.

KittyVonCatsworth · 08/07/2018 19:47

And to add, some parts of Scotland ambulances and fire engines have to be escorted by police because they get trashed otherwise.

cardibach · 08/07/2018 19:47

Harold. I’m pretty sure that this No one jumped on an ambulance yesterday. The picture is over five years old is bs.

  1. It’s more than one picture
  2. The ambulance service seem to think it happened
  3. It’s being reported on all major nespws channels and is a Reuters link. Pretty sure one of them would have fact checked...
Ontheboardwalk · 08/07/2018 19:47

The picture is not 5 years old! The Shard is built in both pictures of the nob heads on the ambulance. The red cranes are in both pics and nothing to do with the Shard.

It’s not fake news, well unless a bloke 5 years ago had a premonition of what Southgate would be wearing and dressed up before he jumped on the ambulance.

Cheripie64 · 08/07/2018 19:52

I think its wonderful that England are doing well, anyone else from the home nations of the UK that are wanting England to suceed, thats great too.

But to actively say you dont want England to win, are joyless arses, bitter and jealous. The world cup only comes around every 4 years, do you not realise how hard it is to get to this stage, we are talking about the best teams of the whole WORLD and England are up there, of course it means alot to the fans. I don't condone violence or damage, by the mindless few. But this should be a matter of National pride. Come on the lions!!!
