To ask if you think it is controversial to say that a person with male genitalia should not be allowed to use changing rooms used by people with vaginas?

www.theargus.co.uk/news/16334391.trans-women-are-still-males-with-male-genitalia/

The Argus (Brighton newspaper) says that it is controversial for someone to say this:

"many trans women are still males with male genitalia, many are sexually attracted to females, and they should not be in places where females undress or sleep in a completely unrestricted way.”

The definition of controversial is likely to give rise to a public disagreement.

Do you think it is likely that most people would disagree with the statement that people with penises should not use the changing rooms which people with vaginas are using?

And we’re back to the misogynists revealing themselves as racist as well. Nice.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 08/07/2018 10:35

Anyone who doesn't understand and refuses to believe that women need sex segregated spaces for their safety, privacy and dignity in certain settings is likely an entitled male (regardless of how they identify) who has never considered male violence.

Men as a class pose a risk to women as a class, Frankie. If you have problems with class analysis, please look it up. You might check out consent while you're at it.

Beamur · 08/07/2018 10:35

It doesn't read to me that Mimmymam has the social awareness of a toddler, but someone else on this thread seems to be throwing a strop...

Frankiebern · 08/07/2018 10:36

Hi aaarrrggghhhh

Really?I'm surprised as you contradict yourself and don't elucidate your concerns very well.
You actually appear confused as to what point you are trying to make;as in three and none.Anyway it is pointless for me to continue to correspond with you as this will get us nowhere.Your original post is extremely offensive and though I feel sure you are a very worthy person you are extremely misguided. Please give more time and consideration to your posts in future. It is weak and cowardly to post opinions on a forum that one feels will only get supportive responses because the target of your diatribe is unlikely to read them.I am not the target btw,I am not transgender, but I know a lot about the situation you are talking about and it is extremely apparent that you are not qualified to comment or opine in the way you have.Shame on you.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

UpstartCrow · 08/07/2018 10:37

...waits for accusation of 'bitter'...

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 08/07/2018 10:37

Or alternatively, Frankie, they might be a misogynistic woman who identifies so closely with the dominant class that they're happy to throw women under the bus.

Mimmymam · 08/07/2018 10:38

Oh dear Confused Go well, Frankie.

Mimmymam · 08/07/2018 10:47

You both talk gobbledygooks

I mean

Beamur · 08/07/2018 11:04

I thought 'gobbledegook' was both singular and plural. You learn something new here all the time Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/07/2018 11:15

i can think of so many analogies that would slowly and simply educate you yet

Of course you do Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/07/2018 11:17

pointless for me to continue to correspond with you

And yet you do...

Frankiebern · 08/07/2018 11:20

Wow!

StepBackNow · 08/07/2018 11:23

Off you pop then, Frankie. You are too incoherent and illiterate for this place. Maybe take some lessons in communication.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/07/2018 11:25

Oooh true prawn very true

Grin
cholka · 08/07/2018 11:34

You know, it's not so long ago that there was a moral panic about homosexuality. Would you object to sharing a changing room with a lesbian? Surely the point is that people should be respectful in changing rooms and prosecuted if not?
There's not that much to stop a sex offender from going into a women's changing room anyway if they wanted to. I doubt they'd be wanting to go in and undress to be vulnerable. I think we all need to calm down a bit.

bellabasset · 08/07/2018 11:36

Trina Budge was so concerned about this issue that she booked in as a man in a hostel. She did not alter her appearance and was put in a private room.

Sorry unable to copy link but it is in the Metro 4 days ago.

Mimmymam · 08/07/2018 11:49

Cholka: please don't patronise me by telling me to 'calm down' about the prospect of losing all my sex-based rights and in addition the possibility of sex offenders self-identifying into my daughter's youth hostel or swim change.

I think some people have thought harder about this than you, and it's worth you spending a little time researching the problems.

Mxyzptlk · 12/07/2018 20:55

Trina Budge was so concerned about this issue that she booked in as a man in a hostel. She did not alter her appearance and was put in a private room.

She was not put in a private room. She was given a key to a male dormitory where she met a male hosteller already there.

Of course, many hostels already have mixed sex dorms and that's fine if people know about it.
The youth hostels organisations, in England and Scotland, have started to accept self-identification while it is not law, and without telling anyone.

MsFrizzle · 12/07/2018 20:59

I think trans women should be able to use the ladies' room. They're women. Sorry to disappoint by not following the Mumsnet hivemind.

MsFrizzle · 12/07/2018 21:00

Also, this argument reminds me an awful lot of when I came out as bisexual and the girls in the changing rooms reported me and said I shouldn't be allowed to change in the same room as them.

I was told i had to change in the shower cubicles (unused) instead.

Mxyzptlk · 12/07/2018 21:00

Why is it important for transwomen to have access to female changing rooms?
If they truly feel 'as women' why don't they want to reduce (other) women's concerns by at least lobbying for changing cubicles rather than shared changing rooms.

UnderHerEye · 12/07/2018 21:16

MsFrizzle

Do you think transwomen with penises should be allowed to use facilities for women?
