Mum going on holiday without her child

First of all I AM her friend before I get accused of slagging the woman off. If I wasn't I wouldn't be posting in here instead I'd be mentioning it to mutuals which I haven't.

So my friend has a gorgeous 2 year old daughter.

My friend works full time in a demanding job which requires trips away and lots of evening events.

She's now on her fourth holiday (excluding weekends away) with friends abroad without her daughter. I know she's not bu to go but I feel she is bu to want to.

This time flies by so fast and she's spends a lot of time working away from her daughter. I just can't get my head around her not wanting to spend this time off with her daughter.

This woman had even gone to Disneyland with friends whilst her child stayed at home.

Does she not like her child much or am I wrong please tell me because obviously i can't ask her that!

I'd probably keep my beak out if I were you.

Pengggwn · 03/07/2018 12:49

Absolutely none of your business.

flamingofridays · 03/07/2018 12:49

I know she's not bu to go but I feel she is bu to want to

no she isn't. a week away from her child isn't the end of the world, and at 2 her daughter wont remember it.

of course she likes her child, the sheer fact you ask that suggests to me that you are NOT her friend and she would be better off without your judgement.

fluffiphlox · 03/07/2018 12:50

“Mind your own beeswax”, I think is the term.

ghostyslovesheets · 03/07/2018 12:51

I AM her friend

No you are not

Trinity66 · 03/07/2018 12:51

mind your own business tbh what an unfriend like thing to do posting on here basically saying your "friend" doesn't love her child

Wolfiefan · 03/07/2018 12:51

A 2 year old wouldn't get much out of Disney. She wants to go. Unless she's leaving her child alone to fend for itself then why shouldn't she?

HollyGibney · 03/07/2018 12:52

I wouldn't say anything but I would certainly think it. Most people would no matter what they all claim on here.

Thymelord · 03/07/2018 12:54

Assuming that the child is being left with her other parent, or a similarly capable adult, then yes you are being unreasonable. Not every mother wants to be with their child 24/7, and that's fine.

Also, you're not her friend. Friends don't start snidey threads on parenting forums about each other.

QueenB14 · 03/07/2018 12:54

I personally couldn't do it but I'm a lone parent and could only really do one holiday a year so if I went alone dd wouldn't get a holiday that year, which would seem unfair if id been away.

If I did have the money to do both it would depend on where dd would be when I went. Me and ex split holidays so if she was with him for a week anyway then it would make no difference to her if I was at home or on holiday.

SmashedMug · 03/07/2018 12:57

YABU and you're not her friend.

Mrsharrison · 03/07/2018 12:59

Has she had 4 holidays and weekends without dd this year?
If so that is a lot, on top of her heavy workload.

flamingofridays · 03/07/2018 12:59

Most people would no matter what they all claim on here

nope, and infact my 2 year old is not coming on 1 of our holidays this year..... why? because we deserve a break too. My lovely mum is having him.

Helloisitteaurlookingfor · 03/07/2018 13:00

You are being hugely unreasonable.

pinkwafercustardcream · 03/07/2018 13:02

I am keeping my beak out by posting it on an anonymous Internet forum rather than saying anything to people who we both know in real life or posting on a whatsapp group we are both in.

Disneyland is for children. It is. I don't see why a mother would go without her child. It is odd.

Especially one who's work takes them away from home so often.

I see a lot of replies from people who would do the same then.

I for one would be really hurt if my mother had done this to me as a child.

Is your friend Coleen Rooney?

Thymelord · 03/07/2018 13:04

Disneyland is for anybody who wants to go. Not just for children at all.

Your beak is well and truly in because you are hoping to get people to agree with you that this woman is a terrible mother for leaving her "gorgeous" child, when she already works full-time too!

hannah1992 · 03/07/2018 13:04

No I would t do it. She works away from home so her work takes her away she’s been on holidays alone and weekends away. What time does she spend with her dd?

Shoxfordian · 03/07/2018 13:05

She makes different parenting choices to you. Doesn't make her a bad parent. I don't see anything wrong with her going on a few separate holidays.

pinkwafercustardcream · 03/07/2018 13:05

No obviously not fending for herself - what a hilarious comment.

I don't really care if anyone on here wants to shout I am NOT here friend! That's not what I'm asking thanks.

The parents are not split up which obviously would be a different scenario. Not off to a lovely granny either. A lot of overnight child care.

elliejjtiny · 03/07/2018 13:05

Are you jealous OP?

Sounds fine to me. I don't normally go away without the dc but that's mainly because nobody would have them. Dh and I took the older dc away for a night/2 days about a month ago and left younger dc with pil's. Was amazing, although pil's said never again!

flamingofridays · 03/07/2018 13:06

I for one would be really hurt if my mother had done this to me as a child

at 2 you wouldn't remember anyway.

Wellthisunexpected · 03/07/2018 13:07

I'd love a holiday without DS. I love the kid to death, but a break would be really nice.

I genuinely do not see what your issue is. Are you saying parents shouldn't have lives outside of their kids? The 2 yo wouldn't even know where mum had gone, or what Disney is. It'd be wasted on a 2yo. Who's to say she won't take her when she's old enough to appreciate it?

You sound judgemental and jealous. And to say you'd be devastated if your mum had gone away without you makes you sound immature and unable to appreciate people have their own lives.

pinkwafercustardcream · 03/07/2018 13:08

@Thymelord Yeah she is 'gorgeous' why would it make any difference if she wasn't?

OP posts:
Dieu · 03/07/2018 13:09

See, I am torn on this. On the one hand, I would judge. On the other though, I'd wonder if I was projecting, due to a bit of jealousy on my part.

Self-awareness can be a bummer Grin
