To think this new fashion looks stupid

Sliders and socks, I just can’t stand it, I think it looks bloody stupid and defeats the object of sliders. All my sisters friends do it, all the local kids wear it. It’s just one of them things that pisses me off in an instant. If I wore this when I was at school I would have got severely mocked.
Any other popular fashion you don’t like?

yes those fluffy sliders are mules by another name , Joan Collins etc would wear them with a sexy negligee whilst drinking wine and trying to seduce Dex Dexter or whoever in dynasty.

cazzaG · 04/07/2018 17:57

These sexy things are sliders lol!

To think this new fashion looks stupid
Skyejuly · 04/07/2018 17:59

They are called sliders.

x2boys · 04/07/2018 17:59

are white sport socks a thing now?You wouldn't have been white sport socks were a big no no in my town in the early 90,s

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 04/07/2018 18:02

Ginkypig... it is OK, it really is.

"Does my bum look big in this?" - said by NO man EVER.

Don't be bothered by what some women find laughable or silly or whatever else they want to dress it up as. You wear what you like and don't feel in any way foolish for it. The fools are the ones who need to find a 'tribe' to validate them... hence the thread. It's cheap and meaningless.

You wear what you want to wear and ignore the ignorant minority who would raise their eyebrows, they don't matter - not to anybody really, that's why they have to find pointless 'fault'.

FreeMantle · 04/07/2018 18:05

Plastic/rubber sandals were always flip flops regardless.

Now plastic sandals can be sold for the same price as shoes they are called sliders.

Same as 'cold shoulder, was once " shoulder less " in the early 90's. And trousers are all 9/10th or some such shit instead of "ankle length"

WilburIsSomePig · 04/07/2018 18:08

DS is 14 and wears them like this. Looks bloody ridiculous but they're all at it. I was on a school residential a couple of weeks ago (I work in a school) and there they all were, shuffling about in their socks and 'sliders', like a bunch of al' grandads/mas. Grin

user546425732 · 04/07/2018 18:19

Another daft one - men in shorts and long sleeved shirts - why?! I've seen loads recently; if it's warm enough for shorts then why wear a long sleeved shirt?

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 04/07/2018 18:26

it's terrible. Especially in the UK when we don't have pool so why the hell do people war sliders. This is for people from LA in winter.

FreeMantle · 04/07/2018 18:26

Because short sleeved shirts are chavy

Missbrick1 · 04/07/2018 18:28

short sleeve shirts are 🤮, one must wear a long sleeve & roll up if necessary.

mumsastudent · 04/07/2018 18:31

Japanese socks with big toe!

neveradullmoment99 · 04/07/2018 18:37

Yeh, it looks shit. Never seen anyone in RL wearing them together except MIL who was sporting a pair of socks and walking sandals...oh dear oh dear me is what i thought. Mind you, if you cant do it at 70 odds when can you?

MadisonAvenue · 04/07/2018 18:49

I grew up in the 70s and the flip flops we had then were rubber and it was more usual to have them without a toe post.

mydogisthebest · 04/07/2018 18:51

I am in my 60's and have never ever heard any shoe/sandal called a slider. I would call them mules.

I hate those stupid furry ones that look like slippers.

MrsKoala · 04/07/2018 18:53

I have seen loads of people in those fluffy ones and i assumed they were out in their slippers. Then i went into shoe zone (yes i know - i'm classy) to look for some flops with no toe post and was pointed to those.

None of the people i have seen wearing them are young tho (all 30s and 40s mums at the school gates) so i assumed it was an extension of PJs as outer wear. Not seen them with socks yet tho.

3out · 04/07/2018 19:00

Incy, I think gillets became bodywarmers because people couldn’t say gillet properly. They are still called gillets by the Girlguiding association. Every week ‘girls, don’t forget to take your gill-its home!’ Does my head in 😂

3out · 04/07/2018 19:02

I’ve never heard of a sliders, but the socks/slider combo sounds like standard pool boy/girl uniform to me.

purplebunny2012 · 04/07/2018 19:04

IncyWincy Sliders was a fab TV show!
I can't stand fluffy sliders, they look no different to slippers.

FatBarry · 04/07/2018 19:18

I'm fifty two and I know the difference between a slider and a fit flop.

Metoodear · 04/07/2018 19:23

They give you blisters if you don’t found out the hard way

FatBarry · 04/07/2018 19:23

Out of interest, what radio station so we can judge if YABU?

diddl · 04/07/2018 19:27

"Anyone else remember those Scholl mules with the wooden sole in the 70s? My mum wore those constantly in the Summer of 76."

Yup-me, my mum & my sister were all wearing themGrin

MarvellousMonsters · 04/07/2018 21:08

IncyWincyGrownUp & FreeMantle are right:

“Give it all the fancy bollocks names you like, it’s still a flip flop grin

I used to work in ‘fashion’ too. You should be more aware than anybody else that the way to sell shit to gullible people is to give it a fancy new name. Gillet —bodywarmer— anyone?”

Renaming something to make it sound new is a common trick. Those skinny jeans everyone thinks are the latest thing, they were ‘drainpipe’ jeans in the 1980s, and so on. “Sliders” ate shower shoes, worn in swimming pools & sports changing rooms, putting naff fluff on them doesn’t make them cool, and socks with them is a sartorial disaster. Ugh!! Shock

MarvellousMonsters · 04/07/2018 21:10

diddl Scholls were the Birkenstocks of the 70s!!
