To think this new fashion looks stupid

Sliders and socks, I just can’t stand it, I think it looks bloody stupid and defeats the object of sliders. All my sisters friends do it, all the local kids wear it. It’s just one of them things that pisses me off in an instant. If I wore this when I was at school I would have got severely mocked.
Any other popular fashion you don’t like?

I seem to remember there was a fashion for pointy stilettos and ankle socks.

Not that I ever did that.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 03/07/2018 15:19

Flops and socks are a huge no 😲

mumsastudent · 03/07/2018 15:20

there was a fashion (more years ago than I will admit!) of having a dress with the bottom navy blue with bright fluorescent green stripes & the top being the same shade of fluorescent green with navy blue spots - I thought I looked great (shudder) mini of course!

Troels · 03/07/2018 15:32

I wear Birkenstocks (slides style) with socks in winter, well used to, I need new ones to do it this year.
It's not new at all. Only looks weird with shorts in summer to me.

Ofthread · 03/07/2018 15:35

I pioneered this look a few years ago, everyone stared.

QuietNinjaTardis · 03/07/2018 16:04

I saw a teenager wearing fluffy sliders which looked like slippers with white sport socks. She looked bloody stupid. I assumed at the time it was supposed to be fashionable but come on! HmmConfusedGrin

Just to clarify I’m only 30, but now feeling old that I don’t understand the current trends 😩 the best conversation was with my 14yo sister and her friend over the weekend. Both getting ready to go to the beach, friend realises she hasn’t got her sliders and only had trainer socks, calls her mum and asks her to drop off the sliders and long socks, I ask her ‘why do you need more socks you have some’ so my sister answers for her. Apparently it’s a crime to wear ankle socks with sliders it has to be long socks because that looks stupid 😬 I just replied any socks with sliders look stupid.
I knew football players did it, but understandably to air their feet, but now it seems shopping and going out for meals is the place to wear them 🤦🏼‍♀️

I've never heard the term 'sliders' before, but then, I've been away from the UK for ages. I just call these type of footwear slippers, specifically rubber slippers.

I usually only wear them at home. With or without socks, they just don't look great.

Bramble71 · 03/07/2018 16:57

I'm glad someone posted a picture as I wouldn't have known that sliders are flipflops.

I'm with the OP. Flipflops and socks isn't a good look.

Toodamnhot · 03/07/2018 16:58

I am hoping the look will catch on.

Olinguito · 03/07/2018 17:26

Doesn't the name come from pool sliders, ie rubbery things you slide your feet into by the swimming pool? And no toe posts.

8misskitty8 · 03/07/2018 23:05

I’ve seen quite a few woman wearing those fluffy mules Walking down the street .
When I was at school and working at weekends in a shoe shop over 20 years ago we sold the same thing with a small heel as a slipper ! Bright pink, blue or black for £4.99 .
Bet these updated outdoor shoes/mules cost a lot more than that ! They look rediculous.

Also rediculous are those painted on eyebrows especially close up when you can see the real eyebrows in the middle of the big stripe.

Oh and sliders are an ice cream between wafers that you get at the ice cream van.

SabineUndine · 03/07/2018 23:08

I’ve seen them called slides. They’re actually mules

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 03/07/2018 23:12

Excellent - a few weeks ago when I did this when speainedmy tor I can now claim I was being fashionable first time for everything

Sidelook · 03/07/2018 23:22

Yanbu
I have a few pairs of sliders, love them. What I do not love is socks and sliders, it is unnecessary and not a good look. The fashion police should defiantly carry out arrests of these offenders and throw away the key!!

Freetogo · 03/07/2018 23:24

It started last year, or the year before.

I blame Joey Essex reem

ChippyMinton · 03/07/2018 23:29

Ha. I just told DS he is fashion according to MN with his socks and slider. Cue and “I told you that already”.

He looks very comfy and cool. i would look like an old lady.

Troels · 03/07/2018 23:29

Tevas and socks is just so wrong, Birkies and socks in winter is much cooler.

He also has some tiny man bag thing going on. Gotta love the teenagers of today.

clumsyduck · 03/07/2018 23:32

I love it because I can dress like the nerd I am and also be considered "with it" at the same time. Perfect !

Troels · 03/07/2018 23:32

Sandals are Slides. Sliders are mini burgers.

Missbrick1 · 03/07/2018 23:33

Makes me feel old, this was a look in the 90s in South London along with one jogger leg rolled up. Didn’t it originate from American sports players hence why they are sliders.

blackteasplease · 03/07/2018 23:33

I thought they were mules too.

They look fucking stupid with socks I agree. Doesn't look a particularly practical choice either but men seem to be going for it and they usually only go for things that are comforable to the wearer.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 03/07/2018 23:36

Slides and ankle socks are worn with 'sport luxe' apparel.

Grey marl jersey mini skirts with matching cropped sweatshirt with ankles socks and slides.

It looks ridiculous.

Missbrick1 · 03/07/2018 23:40

I always think of a mule as a flat closed toe sandal/slide or heeled open or closed toe shoe
