To think this new fashion looks stupid

Sliders and socks, I just can’t stand it, I think it looks bloody stupid and defeats the object of sliders. All my sisters friends do it, all the local kids wear it. It’s just one of them things that pisses me off in an instant. If I wore this when I was at school I would have got severely mocked.
Any other popular fashion you don’t like?

They might be called sliders now, but they never were, and even without a toe post they still “flip flop” when you walk...

ToadOfSadness · 03/07/2018 10:57

Those fluffy ones look really stupid, I keep thinking people are wearing slippers in the street. Even worse that they are often real fur and something died just so that someone could look daft.

Just want to add, short dressing gowns/kimonos over clothes, which may be fine in Japan or somewhere but here, no. Especially with the fluffy slippers and those awful skin tight jeans that show every lump, camel toe and cellulite and make people look like they have wrestlers legs

OliviaStabler · 03/07/2018 10:58

I thought sliders were small burgers Blush

rosesandflowers1 · 03/07/2018 11:01

It depends on the person really. On some young people it looks quite hip and cool!

Not a look I could pull of though.

DistanceCall · 03/07/2018 11:04

I live in Spain, and over here wearing sandals (any kind of sandal) with socks is a definite sign of being a tourist (and more specifically an English-speaking or Northern European tourist, although the French sometimes do it too). And the cause of much hilarity Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 03/07/2018 11:04

OPs pic clearly shows a picture of pink and blue flip flops.

rosesandflowers1 · 03/07/2018 11:05

^^ I think it was a comparison to show the difference between flip flops and sliders.

RedPony1 · 03/07/2018 11:06

@AjasLipstick
It's an Americanism. They're not "sliders" if there's a toe post. Slider sounds bloody stupid

They don't have a toe post!

They are still horrific footwear for outside the house or away from the beach though

rosesandflowers1 · 03/07/2018 11:07

Slider sounds bloody stupid

In comparison to "flip flops"? Grin

A lot of words are really stupid once you think about them.

Oldraver · 03/07/2018 11:08

My DS came downstairs a few weeks ago like this...he just doesn't like wearing foorwear with no socks.

I asked him if this was the fashion now at school, and he just looked puzzled. Had to explain to him I had heard, via MN, that it was all the rage.

He went off with a smug look that he was ahead of the trend (gor round here)

RedPony1 · 03/07/2018 11:09

OPs pic clearly shows a picture of pink and blue flip flops.

There are 2 pics, one of flip flops, one of sliders - to show the difference

Trinity66 · 03/07/2018 11:10

Flip Flops

Minisoksmakehardwork · 03/07/2018 11:10

I got very confused at gymnastics once. Sliders for me were these and they were talking about footwear sliders. Quite frankly I'm sure they were also called flip flops when I was much younger.

But any kind of open footwear and socks is a no from me. Perhaps their wearing them in an ironic way?

Trinity66 · 03/07/2018 11:11

oh the black things are sliders? ok

Spartacunt · 03/07/2018 11:11

My gran used to knit me toe socks in the 70s. They were hideously uncomfortable, especially as every time she knitted six toes into each sock.

dogzdinner · 03/07/2018 11:11

I never knew they were called sliders - always known them as flip flops, with or without the bit between the toes.

I'm obviously in an unfashionabl area as I haven't seen young people doing this, just retired men. Usually worn with baggy shorts and, currently, very tanned bare chests

Birdshitbridgegotme · 03/07/2018 11:12

Flip flops go between your toes. Sliders to straight across

ToadOfSadness · 03/07/2018 11:13

Sliders ,presumably because you slide your feet into them, formerly called slip-ons, probably also because your feet slide back out of them when trying to walk. They have been called sliders for a few years as I discovered when trying to buy flip flops with a toe post on Ebay and the sellers were just trying to get a sale, as usual, so mis-described them. If socks have those little sticky dot things on the soles it might keep the stupid things on the feet. Fashion is often ugly (slug eyebrows, make up that looks like a mask, claw fingernails in violent colours, bum cracks and underwear showing in jeans, trainers with no laces, huge holes in earlobes, cow pat hair cuts with bald sides, mullets, ...).

Small burgers, yes, but I could never figure out why they were called sliders.

Ice cream, not heard that.

Craftsandfun · 03/07/2018 11:15

They’re ugly but comfy. There’s another fashion atm where youngsters take one arm out of their jumper and let the arm hang over the shoulder. It’s very very odd.

bsbabas · 03/07/2018 11:15

That's already a thing for zoolander two the two main actors went on at the armani show wearing silk PJs

Willow2017 · 03/07/2018 11:17

Omg 'sliders' are supposed to be worn outside? Are those the things that look like slippers with fur? I thought a man i saw recentky had just worn them to dash out to the shop in his car! And had proper shoes in the car He said he was off for a day out and meal in a very posh restaurant! Fashion victims will wear bloody anything i suppose.

They are beyond awful.

Isawthelight · 03/07/2018 11:18

I've got a pair of pink fluffy slidersBlush...they are the most comfortable things EVER. I only wear them round the house, putting the bins out etc and would never wear them with socks but then I'm an old fogey.

DarkDarkNight · 03/07/2018 11:19

I think it looks quite nice on teens actually. Adults, not so much.

But OP is right, they are definitely slides/sliders not flip flops. Flip flops have the toe post. I dug my Nike slides out of storage and am loving them. They were always called pool slides from the late 80s/90s when I used them at swimming, it’s not a new term.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 03/07/2018 11:21

Aren't sliders just mules with a "modern" name? And no, you can't wear socks with flip flops. And yes, they all look ridiculous with socks. It's a very British joke.

SnapCards · 03/07/2018 11:21

I hate the term 'sliders', me and DH were talking about this just this morning! I think it sounds very down-with-the-kids.

Surely everyone was happily calling them flip-flops before??

But yes, either way they look shit with socks.
