To think this new fashion looks stupid

Sliders and socks, I just can’t stand it, I think it looks bloody stupid and defeats the object of sliders. All my sisters friends do it, all the local kids wear it. It’s just one of them things that pisses me off in an instant. If I wore this when I was at school I would have got severely mocked.
Any other popular fashion you don’t like?

You couldn't wear socks with flip flops, the toe bit would get in the way Confused Unless you were wearing those creepy glove socks.

I didn't know this was a thing! Sounds utterly mad.

saucepotty · 03/07/2018 10:38

Really short shorts. I've seen a lot of cellulite and wobbly thighs.

smithsinarazz · 03/07/2018 10:39

Haha, my dad's in fashion for the first time in 70 years :D

QuimReaper · 03/07/2018 10:39

Racecar there was even some talk a few years ago about it being/becoming "fashionable" to be seen out and about in rollers...

Yup, I have a teen and she says the socks and sliders is A Thing. Yet she laughs at the idea of wearing socks with sandals. Go figure.

Auldspinster · 03/07/2018 10:43

I do think the fluffy sliders look ridiculous. The regular sliders just remind me of swimming pool lifeguards.

torthecatlady · 03/07/2018 10:44

@IncyWincyGrownUp sliders was awesome! I keep hoping that it will turn up on Netflix one day!

Socks and sandals are weird to me, but I don't keep up with fashion trends.

Ginkypig · 03/07/2018 10:44

I obsessionally want this trend to become universally ok one day!

I can't bring myself to do it outside the house but it is the perfect solution to combat my summer (disabled) feet issues.

Shoes and socks make my feet swell so I then can't get shoes back on until they go back down.
Shoes or sandals and no socks make my feet sweat which causes the skin to breakdown leaving big bleeding patches that can stop me from being able to walk and take weeks to heal due Sad or I slide and fall then can't get up!

Socks and sandals/sliders keep my feet cool and don't swell them up
The socks stop the sweating and stop the skin from degrading, it's the perfect solution except others (and me) think it looks awful to the point of starting threads about it! it's just not the done thing if you are my age. I'm too old and fat to pull it off like the youngsters do.

butlerswharf · 03/07/2018 10:45

Sliders aren't flip flops. They don't have a toe post.

CleopatrasMum · 03/07/2018 10:45

My 8 yo did this the other day. I suggested she lose the socks but she refused, and I just thought, oh bless, she will understand her faux pas when she is older. I was surprised as she is normally very into fashion.

Turns out she was right (well, in a totally wrong way) and I am just an old fogey. You learn something new every day (not the old fogey bit - I knew that obviously).

specialsubject · 03/07/2018 10:47

flip flops in the uk.
thongs in Australia.
Jandals in New Zealand.

and those are just the ones I know.

sandals with socks? That's hilarious, I thought that was an old person thing. It is of course more comfortable if you have bought crap shoes.

AjasLipstick · 03/07/2018 10:47

no they are sliders, I work in a shop and they are called sliders.

It's an Americanism. They're not "sliders" if there's a toe post. Slider sounds bloody stupid.

Sparklesocks · 03/07/2018 10:47

Not my cuppa either, but certain fashion trends have always been a bit whacky and out there since forever! Think back to 70s/80s/90s too..eek

ILoveDolly · 03/07/2018 10:48

Creepy glove socks FTW! You can happily watch toephobes shuddering at your feet all day
We used to have a teacher who wore socks and sandals and we all laughed at him. I can't get behind the fashion as a result. Nope.

mysocksmakemeitchy · 03/07/2018 10:48

I was in a shop the other day and there was a dad with his two young teen daughters and the daughters both had a head full of big rollers Confused

BestZebbie · 03/07/2018 10:49

They have to be specifically sports-branded sliders with just one strap across, and white sports socks though. don't they? Not just any old backless sandal and sock combo.

HelloEllo · 03/07/2018 10:50

Slider is an icecream between two wafers.

I second this (maybe we live in the same place!)
You can't beat a 99 slider Smile

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/07/2018 10:52

This was fashionable in the 80’s. Nothing new there.

OkMaybeNot · 03/07/2018 10:53

People are wearing socks with flipflops?

Mulberry72 · 03/07/2018 10:54

Whatever you call them, they still look shit!

LegoBitcho · 03/07/2018 10:55

AjasLipstick there is no toe post. Which is why they are called sliders!

Look at the pic the OP posted. They are CLEARLY not flip flops!

OkMaybeNot · 03/07/2018 10:55

Though I dress my girls in white frilly socks and jelly sandals. It looks cute... And without the socks they'd be cut to ribbons.

How do people deal with sock material wedged in between their toes though?!

Iamtheresurrection · 03/07/2018 10:56

Footballers have rocked this look for years!

OkMaybeNot · 03/07/2018 10:57

OP posted a pic of pink and blue flip flops!
