Today I popped to shops to get DD some shorts and t shirts. I hadn't planned on the weather being this warm for so long so didn't buy a load of hot weather wear.
I went to primark and they were out of their cheap shorts and low on t shirts in DD's size.
We went to the boys section (again no joy) where she spotted some short and t shirt pyjamas she liked. so i got her a couple of sets, thinking "well they are essentially shorts and t shirts, she can wear them".
We then went to DMIL, where DD showed off her stuff to DMIL and her DCousin.
This evening I have received texts from Dsil saying that I can't possibly send DD to school in them, that people will think she's neglected. I texted back explaining that they are shorts and t shirts (thinking she probably just been told pyjamas by her 5 yr old DD) and sent her a pic. She is still adamant that it is inappropriate in this country (I come from France) and made worse by the fact they are boys pyjamas.
She is a person who has strong opinions batshit crazy at times, but I'm starting to second guess myself.

Do they say "Sleepy time" or something like that? I mean, are they immediately identifiable as pjs? If not, then no problem.

Glumglowworm · 01/07/2018 19:45

It’s fine

You DD is clean, well fed, and dressed appropriately for the weather and activities. No one with an ounce of common sense will care that she’s wearing clean pjs

qazxc · 01/07/2018 19:47

Nope.
One has Dinosaurs, the other one has a nautical theme.
She loves dinosaurs and likes the other one because it reminds her of pirates.
She likes a lot of "boy things" so to DSIL disapproval is often in boys clothes (because you try and find stuff with the hulk or spiderman or indeed dinos and pirates in the girl section).

Absolutely fine to send her wearing them. They’re just shorts and a t shirt!

Racecardriver · 01/07/2018 19:53

You haven't said whether they look like pyjamas though. If they do then you really should wash sobe actual clothes for her.

Yura · 01/07/2018 19:53

Wouldn’t be a problem for me. If in doubt you could mix and match with other shorts and t-shirt so it isn’t obviously a set?

Myotherusernameisbest · 01/07/2018 19:53

It's fine. They are essentially tshirts and shorts and as long as they don't say anything about sleep on them no one would even guess.

Pengggwn · 01/07/2018 19:54

If they are obvious pyjamas then the nursery will think you aren't dressing her in the morning. I wouldn't want that myself.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 01/07/2018 19:55

Totally fine!! Ignore the craziness. DS is potty training and he went to nursery in pyjama bottoms all of last week as he can pull them down quickly. Obvious pyjamas. So far no call from social services so I think we got away with it Grin

HairyToity · 01/07/2018 19:55

I'd send in pj's but I'm not an a age person. My children have both worn pj's as day wear.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 01/07/2018 19:56

Completely missing the point I know, but Next currently have some adorable girls dinosaur based outfits!

HairyToity · 01/07/2018 19:56

Image person even.

DragonsAndCakes · 01/07/2018 19:57

If you’re worried the staff will think you haven’t got her dressed then just mention it as you drop her off? Only the first time.

Sundance65 · 01/07/2018 19:57

My daughter bought me a game of thrones tee shirt from Primark. I had worn it a couple of times before she saw me in it and proceeded to tell me it was actually a pajama top. I still wear it as a tee shirt.

Use that as your benchmark - if you opened them up without any labels would you know they are pajama?

DailyMailFail101 · 01/07/2018 19:57

Well I’m going to go against the grain and say I don’t think you should send your daughter to preschool in PJs, it looks very odd, could you not of tried another shop if primary were out of sizes?

Katescurios · 01/07/2018 19:57

My DD went out in a frozen Elsa dress, knee high thick stripey socks and sandals today, she went to nursery in boys shorts and a winter best the other day.

We're trying to get her to dress herself in the mornings ready for starting school in september.

I couldn't care less what folk think to be honest,if anyone does have a problem with it, I'm happy with the explanation above and a very short chat with my DD would show how pro if she is to have picked her own outfit and dressed herself like a big girl.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 01/07/2018 19:58

Bit unsure on this one as all the shorts & t-shirt pj sets DD & DS have are clearly pjs despite not having any sort of sleep theme on them Confused
Have you not got her any shorts & t-shirts at all? It's been quite warm for a few weeks now...

Pengggwn · 01/07/2018 19:58

The problem is that that is exactly what someone would say who wasn't dressing their child in the morning.

delilahbucket · 01/07/2018 19:59

I have a pyjama top that I wear as a normal top. If it isn't identifiable as PJ's, I can't see the issue.

Pebblespony · 01/07/2018 20:00

I think it's grand. And your DSIL is mad. Boys clothes/girls clothes, who cares?

Witchend · 01/07/2018 20:02

Depends on the age. Under 1 fine. Over 3 definitely not as they could get very embarrassed if someone says "those are my pyjamas".

DinoSn0re · 01/07/2018 20:03

It really doesn’t matter, as long as your DD is in clean clothing, is well fed, provided for and happy then you’re doing a great job (and you should tell your SIL to keep her nose out of your parenting choices). I love parents who let children have some input into their clothing, it makes for some really unique choices! Jojo Maman Bebe has some lovely dinosaur girls stuff in at the moment by the way.

qazxc · 01/07/2018 20:03

These are the sets.
I wouldn't say they are obviously pyjamas.
