Today I popped to shops to get DD some shorts and t shirts. I hadn't planned on the weather being this warm for so long so didn't buy a load of hot weather wear.
I went to primark and they were out of their cheap shorts and low on t shirts in DD's size.
We went to the boys section (again no joy) where she spotted some short and t shirt pyjamas she liked. so i got her a couple of sets, thinking "well they are essentially shorts and t shirts, she can wear them".
We then went to DMIL, where DD showed off her stuff to DMIL and her DCousin.
This evening I have received texts from Dsil saying that I can't possibly send DD to school in them, that people will think she's neglected. I texted back explaining that they are shorts and t shirts (thinking she probably just been told pyjamas by her 5 yr old DD) and sent her a pic. She is still adamant that it is inappropriate in this country (I come from France) and made worse by the fact they are boys pyjamas.
She is a person who has strong opinions batshit crazy at times, but I'm starting to second guess myself.

They look fine to me.

Then again, I had to ask DH if I looked like I was wearing PJs earlier as I’d bought some new casual trousers and wasn’t sure how they looked with a tshirt Grin

Clothes are clothes at the end of the day. I certainly wouldn’t care that they’re PJs. It’s too warm for much else!

Yura · 01/07/2018 21:16

I think the point with referring to Frugi and Boden is that people who can easily afford having daywear and nightwear still opt to use pyjamas as daywear. So nothing to do with not being able to,afford, neglect etc, just about choosing soft clothes they like for daywear.
Personally, we don’t use jersey shorts, but that’s because my boys rip them in seconds.

silkpyjamasallday · 01/07/2018 21:20

My 2 year old DD has been wearing my old pyjama tops with her own little shorts almost exclusively since it’s been hot, they are age 5-6 so massively baggy, so perfect for this oppressive heat. She likes them because they have various Disney characters on them, I don’t really care if people think it’s slovenly to put her in pjs, she is happy and comfy. The ones OP has pictured look fine, practical for the weather and with something of interest to the child wearing them on them. Perfect imo.

I disagree with that Yuri.

“P.S. Frugi has a lovely dinosaur tunic and leggings set for girls atm. I think Boden do dinosaur dresses too,”

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 01/07/2018 21:30

Even worse ds sometimes wears girls pj shorts set (though usually in combination with other clothes not together) as daywear and he is in primary. They are Harry Potter which he loves, there weren't any boys ones and they are basically just clothes he likes to wear.

TurquoiseDress · 01/07/2018 21:33

They look perfectly fine for nursery/pre school.

So long as your DC is clean & fed & has had enough sleep, then I'd say their basic needs are more than being met.

As for boys/girls clothes, I find it very annoying when people harp on how LO can't wear this cos it's for boys/pink for girls etc.

I personally cannot stand pink.

Love Primark for their great value kids clothes!

I hate the girls section though as it is so bloody pink & sparkly, but that's probably for another thread Grin

UrgentScurryfunge · 01/07/2018 21:37

It's hard to tell the difference between DS's character t-shirts and pyjama tops. If it's not screaming in your face obvious, let her wear what she's comfortable in.

Lollyice · 01/07/2018 21:41

They're fine, dh sent dd to nursery in her pj's before, not realising they weren't day clothes.
You don't have to explain anything to nursery , you're Sil is being ridiculous.

Fluffyrainbows · 01/07/2018 21:42

Actually my ds wore pj shorts all day today as he was so hot! They were girls pj's too, that he chose last year and pink with Skye from Paw Patrol on. He said his other shorts were too thick and warm. So not only were they pj's, they were pink and a bit small!!

MysteryNameChange · 01/07/2018 21:42

I've been wearing pj shorts out and about as I don't have any bf friendly summer clothes and don't really want to buy any. I think it's fine.

drspouse · 01/07/2018 21:45

I think Boden do dinosaur dresses too,
I have just ordered one on sale, more discounted than the other prints too!

Christobel51 · 01/07/2018 21:47

I love them! They are super cute and I would totally send my daughter to pre school in them. In fact at that age, she used to dress herself in some wonderful combinations....it became a bit of a running joke when she wore tights and a vest and wellies in the middle of winter. She was/ still is fiercely independent and wanted to do it herself, so she did! Ignore anyone who says don't, because it will look bad.... How ridiculous is that? Good luck, your daughter sounds ace. 😀

RachelfromFriends · 01/07/2018 21:48

I did it all last week. Pj shorts tend to be nice thin material in this weather

RachelfromFriends · 01/07/2018 21:48

I mean for my DS not myself!

Littletabbyocelot · 01/07/2018 21:51

My ds wore pj trousers to nursery last week. Clean with underpants on under. . He will not wear shorts or for some really annoying reason the thin cotton trousers I searched everywhere for. It's jogging bottoms or black pants, neither of which work in this weather. I explained to nursery. It was fine.

To be honest, if someone who works in a nursery worries about an otherwise well cared for child turning up in clean, cool pj's on a very hot day, I think they need to refresh their safeguarding training

Sssupersonic · 01/07/2018 21:55

I sent DS (almost 4) to his first school sports day in grey pyjama trousers! Little bugger will not wear shorts and T shirt at all so I've bought loads of grey/navy leggings from the girls clothing sections. Sports day was forecast to be so hot that I needed something cool and loose for him so I ironed some grey pyjama trousers. It really didn't matter.

liquidrevolution · 01/07/2018 22:23

Boden have dino stuff in the sale at the moment. Have bought DD a lovely dress for next summer.

Fwiw DD wore a pyjama top to nursery last week. I doubt if anyone noticed.

NotTakenUsername · 01/07/2018 22:31

Confused

A Boden sale is still at least double a normal Primark price point. Ffs, this is ridiculous. Op is sensible enough to budget and buy from Primark and charity shops and pp come on with this level of ignorance. Unbelievable.

Ummmmgogo · 01/07/2018 23:03

I sent my child in pyjama shorts because I had run out of clean daytime shorts. child looked cute (imo) and we all survived!

Abzs · 01/07/2018 23:04

I have bought many sets of pyjamas (usually tesco or Costco) for ds to wear as day clothes. They are brighter colours and thin, lightweight cotton for over heated nursery buildings. Other parents have enquired as to where I found such useful trousers...

NameChangeUni · 01/07/2018 23:27

they were out of their cheap shorts

Isn’t bloody everything at primark cheap through? You could have got her some other summer clothes for daywear rather than sleepwear, it’s not like pjs were your only option. There are other shops than primark too!

I think it depends on the print and the material. You’re best placed to judge really. If it’s obviously sleepwear than summer or not, she will look a bit odd.

CheshireChat · 01/07/2018 23:42

Asda had some nice dinosaur items, occasionally so do Pep&Co if you have them in your area.

My kid's summery PJs are very clearly PJs, not helped by the fact they are very transparent, but I'd still put them on him if I had nothing else at hand.

Those dinosaur ones are really nice btw.

Fluffyrainbows · 01/07/2018 23:55

@nottakenusername I don't buy primark any more because most of it washes terribly, loses its shape and looks raggy really quickly. In contrast my son is wearing his Boden shorts for the 3rd year running, they'll hand me down and the quality is much better. They were bought in the sale by my mother in law.
For me with kids, primark is like you have to buy everything twice. I tend to shop Sainsbury's sale and get a few good quality bits too last.
