Today I popped to shops to get DD some shorts and t shirts. I hadn't planned on the weather being this warm for so long so didn't buy a load of hot weather wear.
I went to primark and they were out of their cheap shorts and low on t shirts in DD's size.
We went to the boys section (again no joy) where she spotted some short and t shirt pyjamas she liked. so i got her a couple of sets, thinking "well they are essentially shorts and t shirts, she can wear them".
We then went to DMIL, where DD showed off her stuff to DMIL and her DCousin.
This evening I have received texts from Dsil saying that I can't possibly send DD to school in them, that people will think she's neglected. I texted back explaining that they are shorts and t shirts (thinking she probably just been told pyjamas by her 5 yr old DD) and sent her a pic. She is still adamant that it is inappropriate in this country (I come from France) and made worse by the fact they are boys pyjamas.
She is a person who has strong opinions batshit crazy at times, but I'm starting to second guess myself.

They're fine. DS3 has been to school in similar at a similar age.

DinoSn0re · 02/07/2018 03:17

@Pengggwn

Some of us made our suggestions before the OP stated that she was on a budget, so we were actually trying to be helpful and definitely weren’t being smug, thanks.

Pengggwn · 02/07/2018 03:26

If it's not obvious from that that the OP isn't able to afford Frugi, I can't help you. Confused

DinoSn0re · 02/07/2018 03:34

How ridiculous that you think that everyone who shops in Primark can never afford to shop elsewhere. Yes that’s the case for some, but OP didn’t state that straight away. I shop in Primark, Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s, Next and I pick up sales stuff in JJMB, Joules and Boden. Depends what I need the clothing for and what they have in that season. I think you’re the one that needs help with your narrow mindedness, go help yourself Hmm

tildaMa · 02/07/2018 04:09

For me with kids, primark is like you have to buy everything twice.

Still comes out cheaper than Boden. Plus you get to choose two different designs and maybe a size up if needed.
I wouldn't pay Boden price for a seasonal design just so the kids are stuck wearing something they don't like any more but it's still in good shape.

moira123io · 02/07/2018 04:13

Who cares, fabric is fabric and she's a little kid! Goodness!

I don't assume that they are as such. I don't think that is any of my business. But just as I wouldn't suggest to someone who says they couldn't find X item in Asda that it's available with 10% off at Fortnum and Mason, I wouldn't suggest to someone who said they were shopping for cheap shorts in Primark that they go to top of the range shops because they are having a little sale. It's rude.

Anyway, I won't post on that point again, as I am not going to change my mind on it.

NotTakenUsername · 02/07/2018 05:40

I don't buy primark any more because most of it washes terribly, loses its shape and looks raggy really quickly.

Pengggwn · 02/07/2018 05:42

Same reason I only buy my toilet paper from Harrods, isn't it. It's just better quality.

Hmm
NotTakenUsername · 02/07/2018 05:42

In contrast my son is wearing his Boden shorts for the 3rd year running,

Oh, I see you have one of those magical ‘doesn’t grow for three years’ variety of child. Confused

Iceweasel · 02/07/2018 06:10

I'd mix and match to avoid a matchy matchy PJ look, and I wouldn't send in vest tops because of sun protection. Otherwise fine.

DinoSn0re · 02/07/2018 06:34

Pengggwn

Ah, I see you’re one of those ‘offended by everything’ types. What a surprise. Bet you’ve got your sad face perfected for the day the Daily Mail comes knocking when you’ve been offended by something that’s perfectly reasonable in life. You precious little snowflake Wink

Also interesting to note that the OP didn’t seem offended, she just offered up additional information to guide people’s advice to the right areas for her. After all, you do realise that that’s what happens on forums? You ask for advice and receive it? And it’s likely to be varied unless the OP offers specific information to indicate exactly what they’re after, due to the fact that we all experience different things in life and will draw upon those experiences.

It must be tiring judging everyone you know based on where they shop. You should go and visit my local Aldi, there are always tons of top of the range cars there - BMW’s, Audi’s, Range Rovers, Maserati’s. It would blow your mind that people with cars like that might shop in a budget supermarket!

DinoSn0re · 02/07/2018 06:43

Pengggwn

Also, I quote “She has already said she is on a budget and buys outfits from Primark and charity shops.”

At the point when some of us had commented she hadn’t already said. Yet you still decided that it was appropriate to accuse us of being smug. Perhaps you should get off your high horse and RTFT.

I await your apology Grin

Pengggwn · 02/07/2018 06:44

Well, I imagine you'll get bored soon.

DinoSn0re · 02/07/2018 06:49

Ah Pengggwn, I knew that would be your response! Because people like you are never, ever in the wrong, are you?

Thanks for the laughs though, its been a blast seeing into your judgemental little mind Grin

Pengggwn · 02/07/2018 06:58

'People like me' are, I'd imagine, in the wrong as much as the next average person. And, much like most other people, 'people like me' don't say they think they are wrong when they don't, solely to placate people on the internet. I have already told you what I think. Why would I change my mind just to make you feel better?

ferrier · 02/07/2018 07:03

Agree with pp - I wouldn't wear them as sets. And I probably wouldn't use the shorts as daywear - to me they are obviously pjs as they are more flimsy than the average pair of shorts.

RhiWrites · 02/07/2018 07:10

The pirate set doesn’t look like PJs at all. It’s brilliant. The other one maybe does a little bit I doubt I’d have noticed unless told.

Welliejellie · 02/07/2018 07:10

I work in a nursery, if your child came dressed in them I would think nothing of it.
However if you had ss involved with your family and staff thought they were pjs we would ask if they were , with your explanation that would be fine if parent said they had wore them in bed first or were struggling to get child ready that is a different matter.

workinprogressmum · 02/07/2018 07:14

We ran out of clean shorts the other day and let my son pop to the shops with striped shorts on (from Sainsburys if it matters). Didn't think it was too obvious and it was too hot to put him in trousers. I wouldn't put a matching set together but either shorts / top is probably fine if it's clean. Nurseries / crèches do have other things to worry about. As long as your child is clean, dressed and well cared for you'll be fine!

workinprogressmum · 02/07/2018 07:15

*I mean striped pyjama shorts

DinoSn0re · 02/07/2018 07:16

Oh Pengggwyn, life is very serious for you, isn’t it? Must be tough, being so negative about everything Grin. But, I tell you what, you don’t have to do anything to make me feel better, I feel very chipper this morning and never felt bad in the first place, as I was just offering up some nice information about where I had seen some dinosaur themed clothes to an OP who said her daughter loved dinosaur clothing. Must, must, must remember that that makes me seem smug though —to morons—

But, on the point where I quoted you, you are wrong. It’s there in black and white Grin.

DinoSn0re · 02/07/2018 07:19

Don’t worry though, I won’t point it out again, it might knock your delicate demeanour too much for a fine, sunny day like today. I’ll let you go back to getting offended on the behalf of people you don’t know are actually offended themselves.

NotTakenUsername · 02/07/2018 07:21

Well, I imagine you'll get bored soon. Grin

Pengggwn · 02/07/2018 07:21

DinoSn0re

I am actually groaning with the tediousness of your morning 'cheerful' patter. Look, you were rude. I am not offended. I just think it was smug. Get. Over. It.
