Today I popped to shops to get DD some shorts and t shirts. I hadn't planned on the weather being this warm for so long so didn't buy a load of hot weather wear.
I went to primark and they were out of their cheap shorts and low on t shirts in DD's size.
We went to the boys section (again no joy) where she spotted some short and t shirt pyjamas she liked. so i got her a couple of sets, thinking "well they are essentially shorts and t shirts, she can wear them".
We then went to DMIL, where DD showed off her stuff to DMIL and her DCousin.
This evening I have received texts from Dsil saying that I can't possibly send DD to school in them, that people will think she's neglected. I texted back explaining that they are shorts and t shirts (thinking she probably just been told pyjamas by her 5 yr old DD) and sent her a pic. She is still adamant that it is inappropriate in this country (I come from France) and made worse by the fact they are boys pyjamas.
She is a person who has strong opinions batshit crazy at times, but I'm starting to second guess myself.

At preschool age you’re 100% fine.

We even put our girls in some long sleeve/leg PJs in the day when younger as they were far too nice to waste on sleep!!

If you’re at all worried even a jokey “these are actually PJs but she just loved them in the shop so they’re day clothes for her” and then you’re covered. XX

Parker231 · 01/07/2018 20:06

Does it matter what anyone thinks? If they have dinosaurs or sleepy teddies it doesn’t matter. The main thing is that she is comfortable in the warm weather.

MrsPreston11 · 01/07/2018 20:07

Just seen the photos. 100% fine for preschool!

Lindy2 · 01/07/2018 20:08

Pyjamas are just clothes that you just happen to wear at night. As long as they don't have sleep related stuff on them I can't see the problem.
One of my DD's favourite outfits was a Star Wars t-shirt and leggings. It was months later that I realised they were supposed to be pyjamas. No one seemed to have noticed/cared.

Lucked · 01/07/2018 20:08

Absolutely fine.

Myotherusernameisbest · 01/07/2018 20:09

Yep, both those sets are fine. Crack on op and ignore sil.

User12879923378 · 01/07/2018 20:09

I agree - the first is fine, the second I would pair the T-shirt with different trousers.

KatherinaMinola · 01/07/2018 20:10

They're absolutely fine and look like normal clothes. But you must know that loads of children go to playschool wearing their spiderman pyjamas anyway? No-one cares.

There is a very obvious difference between the child who is wearing pyjamas and wellies because that's what they want to wear and the child whose basic needs aren't taken care of.

User12879923378 · 01/07/2018 20:10

But only if you care about people seeing that they are pyjamas.

ClangerTwanger · 01/07/2018 20:10

Both look fine to me! I’d send my DD to nursery in those. If you hadn’t said they were pjs I wouldn’t have known Confused

MintCassis · 01/07/2018 20:11

Nautical one looks like normal t-shirt & shorts set for kids. Something about the dino one does make it look like pjs though. Can you mix & match that one?

RoboJesus · 01/07/2018 20:12

My child gos to nursery in whatever clothes they pick out. Sometimes that's pyjamas. Who cares. They went through a stage of wearing their pink fluffy unicorn onesie every day for like a month. I washed it every night but no one even asked

newmumwithquestions · 01/07/2018 20:14

They’re absolutely fine.
Your SIL is bonkers

AssumethePerpendicular · 01/07/2018 20:14

I accidentally bought some t shirt and trouser sets for baby that turned out to be pjs Hmm on close inspection there were a few very small sleeping dinosaurs on them but you wouldn’t know!
They look fine, I’d send her in them if she wants.

qazxc · 01/07/2018 20:16

For PP asking about primark, I go there because the creche is big into messy play (mud kitchens etc) and clothes do not last.
I'm also on a tight budget and most of her clothes come from charity shops (which requires a bit if preplanning as to what you might need, which is why I've been a bit caught out with the weather we are having).
DD will not be brought to creche in the pyjamas she has been sleeping in, she has fresh clothes every morning.

DD frequently ends up in in pj tops are nursery as DH cannot tell the difference.....

candlefloozy · 01/07/2018 20:19

I work in a nursery and even if a child came
In clean pyjamas I would
Wonder what's going on. I'd just explain what happened with buying them when you drop off. If they don't look like pyjamas then I wouldn't worry

8sleepyducks · 01/07/2018 20:19

They are totally fine. I wouldn't know they were PJs

octoberfarm · 01/07/2018 20:21

Oh, they're fine! Love the first ones especially!

Purplestorm83 · 01/07/2018 20:21

As a nursery manager, I can tell you that we wouldn’t be at all phased if a child turned up dressed in those. We probably wouldn’t even twig that they are meant to be pjs. And even if we did realise, we wouldn’t raise any alarm bells about it - children come in wearing all sorts of odd combinations, as long as they are dressed appropriately for the weather and the activity (so not wearing a frilly white cotton party dress to nursery and them complaining it’s got paint or food on it!) then we are happy!

Boatsnack3 · 01/07/2018 20:22

They are fine, my dd used to have some frozen fever pjs that I saw lots of children wearing as clothes. The only reason I knew they were pjs was they came with a little sleepover bag.

rockcakesrock · 01/07/2018 20:24

Pyjamas are so lovely these days it is hard to tell them from cllorhes. I used to overnight at my sons to help with childcare. One morning I was full of admiration for my Dil as, so I thought , she had not only got her self ready but the little one too. When my son came from work he said, “Oh I see she didn’t want to get dressed again? In my defence they pyjamas were white three quarter length leggings and contrasting top..

Bluetrews25 · 01/07/2018 20:25

Send her in anything that is not pink and fluffy with lots of sparkles and you know she will turn into a butch lesbian, don't you? That's how girls 'catch gay'. Hmm

rockcakesrock · 01/07/2018 20:25

Now when they stay here I ask them to get the pyjamas out themselves .

PseudoQuim · 01/07/2018 20:25

I think it's fine. I know plenty of people buy the Frugi and Little Bird pyjamas with the intention of using them as daywear because a) they're too nice for nobody to really see and b) they just look like normal outfits anyway, not sleepwear. If you're happy and she's happy, don't worry about your SIL.

P.S. Frugi has a lovely dinosaur tunic and leggings set for girls atm. I think Boden do dinosaur dresses too, but I don't shop there so I'm not 100% sure if they're current season or older ones I've seen.
