MUST WEAR BLACK

AIBU?

Hen Party tonight... not even a close friend, one of my friends sisters.

We absolutely must wear all black. Completely black. Not black with a pattern or embellishments or a bloody red stripe. Completely black.

She will "obviously" be wearing white.

She has reminded everyone 7 times this week that we MUST ONLY WEAR BLACK.

AIBU to not go. I don't have any plain black dresses, I could wear jeans and a black top but then I'll look like a flumpy flumperson and I actually think it's completely ridiculous.

Even my gorgeous heels that are black with silver stars on them are not permissible.

AIBU?!?!?!?

Yeah I wouldn't go. And tell her why.

CherryNib · 30/06/2018 12:40

Wear what you like and I doubt you'll be asked to leave (particularly if you are contributing to the cost).
However I would personally jump at any excuse to get out of attending a hen party.

Candypinkstars · 30/06/2018 12:40

Wear white, preferably something that will upstage the bride to be

Say you didn't get the messages

ChateauneufDuTwat · 30/06/2018 12:40

Don't go.

She sounds like an absolute asshat.

ArmySal · 30/06/2018 12:40

No, that is ridiculous, I agree.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 30/06/2018 12:40

Ideally there’s be a group WhatsApp where you can pull out because you don’t have any suitable shoes and you don’t want to ruin the theme.

Black generally isn’t a bad dress code but they seem to have gone way OTT.

Ohmydayslove · 30/06/2018 12:40

Nope wouldn’t go. She sounds childish

I can't be doing with women who try to dictate what other adults wear. Either decline or wear what you like. Bridezilla needs nipping in the bud before she gets too monstrous.

iklboo · 30/06/2018 12:44

Why have you all got to wear black? Is she planning a mime flash mob?

Maelstrop · 30/06/2018 12:45

Batshit. Don’t go. Make cocktails and sit outside in this lovely heat instead.

henpeckedinchief · 30/06/2018 12:45

How bizarre! It's one thing to ask for mainly black but another thing entirely to be so strict about it. I would mysteriously come down with a migraine...

KellyBailey · 30/06/2018 12:46

Is she dictating the permitted clothing colours for the wedding too?

Singlenotsingle · 30/06/2018 12:46

These hen nights are a load of rubbish anyway, especially if you don't even know the woman! She obviously wants to look like Cinderella with a bunch of ugly sisters!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/06/2018 12:48

Ha, I remember going on a hen-weekend and receiving a very dictatorial email from the MOH outlining exactly what we were to wear each evening.

I sent one back informing her, very poiltely, that I would not be complying to such edicts.

And a lovely time was had by all!

Mumsnut · 30/06/2018 12:52

Rent a nun's outfit.

Or a burka Maybe you can fling it off later to reveal something deliciously colourful.

agentdaisy · 30/06/2018 12:57

That would piss me off no end. I absolutely hate dress codes like this. Formal/smart-casual/casual dress codes are fine, fancy dress is borderline, but being told to wear a specific colour and nothing but is a step too far for me (bridesmaid situations excepted).

I'd pull out and tell them exactly why.

Saying 'wear black' wouldn't be too bad but not being allowed to have patterns or embellishments is ridiculous. In this heat you'll all be absolutely boiling if you're outside dressed head to toe in black while she'll be lovely and cool in white.

I hate themed dress codes, it just adds more hassle and expense to going out.

Notevilstepmother · 30/06/2018 12:57

Borrow a fabulous little black dress and wear the heels with the stars. ⭐️ 🌟

Birdsgottafly · 30/06/2018 12:57

Yes, do everyone a favour, who are getting into the spirit and don't go.

If your skint, to the point that you couldn't have picked something up in the sale, or borrowed something, then fair enough.

Leave those who like doing this sort of thing, as a change and enjoy a night out with their mates, to crack on.

You don't want to go, you will bring the mood down, just make an excuse.

Loonoon · 30/06/2018 12:58

I would develop a mysterious illness and spend a happy evening at home.

Hamandcheesebaguette · 30/06/2018 12:59

I knew I wasn't BU!!!! Everyone else just seems to be rolling with it whilst I'm like Hmm

As far as I see it. My options are - there is a wedding dress in the charity shop across the road, I could buy and wear that. Or I could just chop arm and leg holes in a bin bag.

Or sit and drink gin in my garden Grin

a matter of put-up or shut-up. If you don't like it don't go. Easy as that.

Birdsgottafly · 30/06/2018 12:59

" In this heat you'll all be absolutely boiling if you're outside dressed head to toe in black while she'll be lovely and cool in white. "

Black was specified, not a Burqa.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/06/2018 13:00

Either pull out, stating reasons why, or just turn up in the clothes you want to wear. Or buy a black dress and invoice the MOH.

JayZed · 30/06/2018 13:00

Is there any chance you can borrow a friends massive, bright white wedding dress for tonight and when you turn up just comment 'I thought you said NOT black' with added 'oh silly me' laugh
