...to think it's rude of teachers at end of term declaring that they've earned their holiday/deserve a large glass of wine etc.....?

Does it not imply that they think everyone's kids are little horrors and that it's such a hard job and we're not worthy?
Maybe all the kids are little horrors, maybe it is a hard job but they're getting paid for it. It was their choice! My job's hard too but I won't bang on about It.
I think it's quite insulting to the parents of the children. No? [hmmm]

fair play to them - to their wine and their 6-week holiday!

6-week UNPAID holiday.

TicketyBoo83 · 01/07/2018 19:46

OH LOOK ANOTHER TEACHER BASHING THREAD!

Do fuck off, dear Biscuit

CasanovaFrankenstein · 01/07/2018 19:47

I will be buying them the wine.

WowLookAtYou · 01/07/2018 19:48

And I don’t expect teachers to be rude about my children.

Well, you have to hope that yours aren't the entitled and sometimes bratty ones that teachers are dealing with day-in, day-out then, don't you?

Cliona1972 · 01/07/2018 19:50

Ohh, FFS. Get over yourself. I suggest you take 30 kids for a full day (and never mind teach them) and lets see how you feel then.

PurplePenguins · 01/07/2018 19:51

YABU. Children get 13 weeks holiday and rightly so. Teachers often work through some of the holidays. Teachers don't work 9 to 3 either. Especially at this time of year when progress needs tracking, reports need writing etc teachers can pull 12 hour days. That's what the teachers are talking about not the children they teach so yes YABU

PurplePenguins · 01/07/2018 19:52

You are more than welcome to come teach my class @semisonic and then say we're rude

libbyb · 01/07/2018 19:57

You've got your answer OP - YOU ARE BEING UNREASONABLE !!

Aneurin · 01/07/2018 19:58

I need my holiday because that's when I'm having surgery on the joint that was broken by a pupil earlier in the year. The surgeon was kind enough to schedule it for later this month because I can't miss any teaching time. I had one day off after the assault and have been left with PTSD.

Just three weeks of being sworn at and threatened to go. The highlight of last week was being shouted at to 'suck my dick' repeatedly in a lesson by an 11 year old. I need 6 weeks without this level of abuse just to start to feel human again. Because that's what I am, a human being with feelings and breakable bones.

VerbenaGirl · 01/07/2018 20:00

We all deserve a break and all deserve to be allowed to articulate that we are ready for that break - whatever our job.

WowLookAtYou · 01/07/2018 20:03

Aneurin, That's simply dreadful. We were discussing this in the staffroom last week, when we had some awful behaviour happening lower down the school. What is our "line," now? We always assumed that physical violence (with injury) meant a child would have to move to a different setting that could cater for their needs better. But for every teacher who is assaulted and then returns to work (often teaching the very child who has assaulted them), it means that that line in the sand is blurred (or rubbed out) and we're game for anything that anyone throws at us. Where next?

SemperIdem · 01/07/2018 20:09

My exh spent the 6 week “holiday” after our daughter was born shortly before rewriting the A Level course, for both years. Unpaid. Missing out on time with his new baby. Facing an increasingly fractious wife at the end of each day.

I’ll take my 5 weeks paid holiday over the weight of expectation every teacher faces, their “holidays” really don’t make it worth it, for me. But I understand and respect them for what they do, we need them.

Enthymeme · 01/07/2018 20:18

I am not a teacher. I do know a bit about teachers and teaching. I also know about how challenging some kids can be and also how obnoxious their parents can be. The teachers get my vote every time. If you think they have 6 weeks paid holiday check your facts. I suggest you say thank you and give her/him a bottle of wine.

Chocolateyescakeyes · 01/07/2018 20:20

Interested in finding out what #semisonic does for a living...?

Stinkbomb · 01/07/2018 20:20

I do it every Friday! Never mind at the end of a year for teachers. They do have a hard job, and work through a lot of the other Ho,i days, so why shouldn't they look forward to their holidays?

Iseveryusernametaken · 01/07/2018 20:21

I have absolutely no issue with teachers celebrating the end of term or needing a large gin etc. I can't wait for my summer holiday and regularly need a large gin! I do object to constant complaining from not just teachers but anyone that works in schools about their job, the children, OFSTED etc. A little moan here and there is one thing, but if I constantly complained about my employer and job on social media, I'm fairly certain that I wouldn't have my job for very long! The count down to the holiday from the first day back also narks me, particularly when I'll have only had 1 week to their 6.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 01/07/2018 20:29

I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm one of those dreadful parents who buy bottles of wine for teachers. They're not all hardworking and great of course, just like any group of people, but I really appreciate the ones that are, as do my DCs.

Just off for a glass of wine after a day's child wrangling. Does anyone begrudge me that?! Not that I care. Smile

bedtimestories · 01/07/2018 20:30

My youngest teacher deserves a whole bottle and 6 wks off after the class she's had for the last year so as a thank you I'll be giving her that bottle!

hmbn · 01/07/2018 20:31

No! They deserve Gin too! And Cake. I wonder if you really thought people were going to agree with you............

JimmyGrimble · 01/07/2018 20:33

Iseveryusernametaken
Teacher’s pay is averaged out over the year but we are only actually paid for 195 days a year.
Fancy training? We’re crying out fir teachers at the moment. Lovely lovely holidays!

Booie09 · 01/07/2018 20:38

I bet the OP is one of those parents.....

PopGoesTheWeaz · 01/07/2018 20:38

I always assume its just because our head is so awful. The teachers Ive met seem to actually like the kids (more than me certainly!) I wish I could buy them all a drink down at the pub

I love my job but whinge all the time about it. There's even an expression TGIF dedicate to how much people dislike their work and want to have a drink at the end of the week...

Soo,, YABU

WowLookAtYou · 01/07/2018 20:52

but if I constantly complained about my employer and job on social media, I'm fairly certain that I wouldn't have my job for very long!

Maybe there's a queue of people lining up for a career in your chosen field then. But there's a major recruitment and retention crisis in teaching at the moment, so good luck to any Head Teacher who tries to sack any members of staff who are demoralised.

user1476641978 · 01/07/2018 20:56

Omg this is the most ridiculous question yet.

HesterShaw1 · 01/07/2018 20:58

Check out the number of parents moaning on MN that they can't cope their own children after 2 weeks OP.
