...to think it's rude of teachers at end of term declaring that they've earned their holiday/deserve a large glass of wine etc.....?

Does it not imply that they think everyone's kids are little horrors and that it's such a hard job and we're not worthy?
Maybe all the kids are little horrors, maybe it is a hard job but they're getting paid for it. It was their choice! My job's hard too but I won't bang on about It.
I think it's quite insulting to the parents of the children. No? [hmmm]

Which teachers are you talking about?

Ishouldntbesolucky · 29/06/2018 23:47

No

SerendipityFelix · 29/06/2018 23:48

No. It doesn’t imply that at all. It implies they’ve worked hard and earned their holiday.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 29/06/2018 23:48

No.
In fairness, fair play to the teacher who can teach 25 5 year olds to read. Give them all the wine.

Tinycitrus · 29/06/2018 23:49

Everyone bangs on about their holidays at my work.

I can totally understand the desire to celebrate 6 weeks off

Mrskeats · 29/06/2018 23:49

Try teaching for a few weeks.
Let us know then.

Wolfiefan · 29/06/2018 23:49

If they've taught my kids they've earnt more than the one. Much more.
Try dealing with 150 teens a day. 5 classes. 30 in each. Plus marking and reporting and general admin. You may feel you've earnt a bottle or two. A day!

Ivy3621 · 29/06/2018 23:50

Jesus, I think I'd need a drink too if I had to look after upto 35 kids all day every day. Also having to deal with 'ungrateful parents' can't help the situation.

shakeyourcaboose · 29/06/2018 23:50

Nope! Do you ever tell anyone you're looking forward to leave from work?

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 29/06/2018 23:50

I think teachers declaring they've earned their holiday/glass of wine is an understatement. I think YABU.

sleepyducks · 29/06/2018 23:50

Can't wait for my 6 week holiday 😁 🍷

MissMarplesKnitting · 29/06/2018 23:50

There's a huge teacher shortage.

Feel free to retrain, and come and experience why it is we get to the end of term and think "thank god I've made it in one piece" and enjoy a celebratory drink.

We don't think the kids are horrors. 99.9% are gorgeous, lovely human beings.

We are just effing knackered, and relieved to be properly on holiday.

Singlenotsingle · 29/06/2018 23:50

Not really. Doesn't everyone, when they're about to take holiday from work, say the same thing? "I've earnt my holiday and a large glass of wine"?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 29/06/2018 23:50

It's an expression. Lots of people say it when the finish work for their holidays. Are you a student yourself or something op? Confused

SouthwarkSkaters · 29/06/2018 23:50

Well, I’m happy to provide the wine Grin

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 29/06/2018 23:51

Yes YABVU. They deserve plenty more than that!

RunMummyRun68 · 29/06/2018 23:51

Really? Talk about overthinking it

What's wrong with this place today?Hmm

leccybill · 29/06/2018 23:51

Oh here we go. Friday night, is it?

Seen loads of medical professionals, chefs, carers, posties, office workers any many more on fb tonight saying that they'd earned their wine time after a tough week/shift/block etc. No vitriol for them though, hey.
Get back in your box teachers, and stop being so nurturing and going way beyond your job description to ensure the children in your care don't notice or suffer from the cuts slashing their way through education, Semisonic ain't happy.

JennyWoodentop · 29/06/2018 23:51

I'm not a teacher & I know I couldn't do it & I applaud & appreciate those who can.

The last few weeks before the summer break must be so busy & stressful with exams etc, I should think they are ready for a break & truly deserve it. I don't think it's rude of them to say that, just honest - depending on how it was said of course, context is all......

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 29/06/2018 23:52

I'm just a cleaner and I think I've earned my time off too.

Everyone deserves a break especially the teachers of my dc

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 29/06/2018 23:52

After the first week of the summer holidays, every other thread on this forum by parents, for parents will be entitled, "can I open the wine yet?"

And that'll be about their own kids.

Just sayin'.

sleepyducks · 29/06/2018 23:54

Btw OP I pinched this off another thread makes interesting reading

HarrietSchulenberg · 29/06/2018 23:55

Eh? What gives you the idea that they think kids are horrors? It's more likely that the planning, marking, report writing (that end of year report you'll be getting didn't write itself), exam prep, social work and endless admin is what makes the wine deserved. It's hard work standing in front of 30 kids each day, being an actor for 5 hours, to bring a subject to life, and teachers really, really need some downtime to recharge.

MyHairyToe · 29/06/2018 23:55

Guessing you’ve never worked in a school Wink

Pebblespony · 29/06/2018 23:56

Doesn't everyone do this at holiday time. Stroll out of the office on the last day 'So long office slaves, I'm hitting the beach!!'
