I watched my neighbour peg washing out yesterday at 6pm. AIBU to think this is weird? Its gone midnight the next day and it's still out. They have been in and out all day today. I don't know what it is but I feel weird about having washing out overnight, so I don't know why you'd peg it out just before night. And then to have it out for two nights in a row 😱 It is so warm that washing dries within hours!

I do this. I don't leave it out for 2 nights but perhaps they were busy. Even if they were in and out. Usually means I'm busy cramming too much stuff into not enought time when I'm in and out.

Cakeorchocolate · 29/06/2018 14:12

DH thinks I'm a bit weird for it though. Who cares!

mirime · 29/06/2018 14:23

I hung washing out at about 6.30pm yesterday. It's still out now, I'd have got it in before work and put more out but I didn't have time.

I'm just trying to make the most of the lovely weather and get all the washing done in the week so I don't have to do it on the weekend.

I don't mind my washing being darked on but I did mind it being rained on.

Taking a comfy seat on the therapist's sofa...

I think it stems from my childhood. My parents separated and my Dad made sure be was very fussy about having his house clean because he didn't want to be a bachelor with a house that wasn't clean. Fast forward thirty years and he has developed a fabulously entertaining obsession, staying with him is better than a hotel. Laundry would not be left on the line overnight, not for fear of being darked on, but because it is somehow not the done thing. Ironing my lacy underwear and DHs socks apparently should be the done thing. He also bleaches the house after I've visited for a while, I try not to take it personally! If it rains, someone is supposed to "get that washing in", urgently, drop everything, including toddlers, to rescue the laundry from the rain. It gets wet, he is as dismayed as when his football team loses. It then needs washed again because even though he lives somewhere with super clean water that is bottled and sold, rain is not clean. Also things get more wet, so have to wash them again.

I've spent so many years trying to avoid turning into my mother. As a result, I unknowingly turned into my father!

So of course laundry that gets wet in the rain needs to be washed again. It got wet in the rain and it has rain all over it!

It is living on the wild side to have laundry darked on. I would do it only for the thrill of living dangerously.

The thought of leaving washing out all night makes me feel weird. I can’t properly explain why. Although if I leave washing out for long enough there are always spiders on it starting to form webs.

sueelleker · 29/06/2018 16:49

When I was young everyone had coal fires, and the rain was consequently filthy-so wet clothes did need washing again. Not so much of a problem now.

DrFoxtrot · 29/06/2018 16:49

I’m not bothered about willies, just the webs.

lastnightidreamtofpotatoes · 29/06/2018 16:56

In this heatwave I have a new policy of insisting that my washing is darker on. The midday sun bleaches the clothes and my towels have been rock hard. Putting a load on now...

Ratarse · 29/06/2018 17:15

I check the weather report then out it goes, very often past 11pm and all year round. So what?

clownfaces · 29/06/2018 17:16

I would never leave my washing out overnight. I am concerned about spiders webs (even though I still get them through the day) Just last night, DH called me to the window to see our neighbour pegging her washing out at 9pm. I accept we are weird.
It was really interested in the post that pointed out that dark clothes wouldn't get bleached by the sun. I'd never thought of this, and now I feel torn Grin

I also rewash clothes if they get rained on, especially if it has been dry for days before. Have you ever noticed the dirt on cars after it has rained? Yuk

winniestone37 · 29/06/2018 19:42

I leave my washing out over night all the time - but more to the point why so you care. The issue here isn't your neighbour...

Larasshadow · 29/06/2018 19:44

Pegged our washing out at 6pm a few nights ago and it was dry by 8pm. Maybe they forgot to get it in.
My neighbour hangs their washing out before going on holiday so would be theves don't know the house is empty!

BusterGonad · 29/06/2018 20:02

I work all day and couldn't possibly squeeze in a wash and putting out before work, I often org it out in the evening ready for the next day!

bringincrazyback · 29/06/2018 20:21

In this weather I'd put it out at night to catch the drying in the morning.

Same here.

RuthosMama · 29/06/2018 22:25

Maybe we should consider that everyone is bloody busy and maybe there was something more important going on that needed dealing with that kind of made the frigging washing pale into insignificance. How about we try and give each other a break FFS.

jmh740 · 29/06/2018 23:00

I often put mine out when I get in from work I'm not organised enough to do it in the morning and bring it in the next day when I get in

NatW86 · 30/06/2018 12:17

OP this is me on a daily basis, the washing goes out when it's done, yesterday's last wash went out at 9:15pm it was in at 7:30am this morning ready for this morning's bedding and towels to go out.

I do sometimes chuckle to myself about sone of the posts on here and clothes being 'darked on'! Grin
