to think you don't peg washing out at night?

I watched my neighbour peg washing out yesterday at 6pm. AIBU to think this is weird? Its gone midnight the next day and it's still out. They have been in and out all day today. I don't know what it is but I feel weird about having washing out overnight, so I don't know why you'd peg it out just before night. And then to have it out for two nights in a row 😱 It is so warm that washing dries within hours!

I've done it once or twice before but I tend not to. My NDN leaves his out 3 to 4 days sometimes, even in the rain

Herbalteahippie · 29/06/2018 11:16

I do it all the time- I have to as I work in the day.

We’re not all under curfew you know

DieAntword · 29/06/2018 11:20

My mum always used to put the washing out overnight, if theres no rain forecast why not...

SalveGrumio · 29/06/2018 12:18

@avamiah why would you need to wash it again if it has been rained on? I just leave it to dry again! Sometimes I spin it but never wash it.

SalveGrumio · 29/06/2018 12:18

Last night I hung washing out at 11pm. It was dry by 7am.

Jux · 29/06/2018 12:22

While we're talking about washing, can I just ask a question? (I'll ask now anyway!)

If you hang out your washing in the morning, say, and then and then it rains and the washing gets wet, why do you bring it in? My mil would always bring my washing in when she was baby sitting dd if it rained. But the washing was always wet from rain and I'd have nowhere to hang it indoors, so it'd just have to go out again. Even if she had taken dd out and it rained hard while they were out, she'd bring my washing in sopping wet. Why?

GiantMirror · 29/06/2018 12:42

@Jux some people rewash clothes Ethan have been rained on.

Cliveybaby · 29/06/2018 12:50

I always put mine out at night!
I generally get home from work around 6/7 then put the washing on (takes about 2 hours), so hang it out about 9/10.
The alternative would be to leave it in a horrible wet pile til morning!

weepat · 29/06/2018 12:50

Had a neighbour once who had 3 teenage girls & worked shifts.
She was known as " Kate 3 days" .
That's how long her washing hung out. Picked at item by item as the girls retrieved something they wanted to wear.

Eventually she would bring in what was left & it would reappear next day washed again.
Nowt queerer than folk!!!!

expatmigrant · 29/06/2018 12:53

Why not? I peg mine out for overnight, especially in this weather. it's pretty dry in the morning. Don't want washing line spoiling view of my garden during the day.

Preggo82 · 29/06/2018 12:56

Mine was pegged out on Tuesday evening and is still there now...

HerFemaleness · 29/06/2018 12:59

I was like the OP once but DH converted me. He's always hung washing out last thing at night so it's not another thing to have to find time for in the morning.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/06/2018 13:00

It is not so hot to stand out there hanging it out when it’s boiling.
I was a trimming the edges of my lawn at 10 pm. But I live in the sticks and only have one neighbour.
Reminds me, must go and get my washing in. It’s 35 degrees here

EstrellaDamn · 29/06/2018 13:01

Slightly OT but I can't bear 'peg washing out' it makes me feel all squirmy inside!

sadcaptains · 29/06/2018 13:10

I do this all time if I know it's going to be nice (like it is currently)! I got back from the gym at 8pm yesterday, chucked my gym clothes in the machine on a quick wash and then put them out overnight.

OurMiracle1106 · 29/06/2018 13:12

I work full time and leave for work at 6.30. I don’t fancy putting washing out at that hour whilst trying to get ready for work. I get home between 7&8 sometimes later so it goes out of a night and sometimes it doesn’t come in til the following night in this weather!

ZanyMobster · 29/06/2018 13:13

Makes sense if you have to leave early for work. Also I was watching Dr Hilary on This Morning and he said if you suffer from allergies it is better to dry your washing at night rather than it being out all day.

ZanyMobster · 29/06/2018 13:14

Obv you would have to brig it in in the morning for that to have an effect

Fresta · 29/06/2018 13:18

I'm with you Jux- if the washing gets wet in the rain I leave it out until it dries- it's only weirdo clean freaks that need to wash rainwater off!

SoundofSilence · 29/06/2018 13:29

Another night dryer here. I have to have all the school uniform washed, dried and ready to go by Sunday night, so it makes sense to me to have it all set to catch the morning sun.

If it gets wet it stays out up to a day to dry. After that, I'll reluctantly tumble dry it. When I was using cloth nappies I didn't mind them getting a rainwater rinse at all - better than my horribly hard water making them crispy.

LastAnni · 29/06/2018 13:35

I leave my washing out for two to three days. I like it to have plenty of fresh air, so am conscious to always leave it out at least a full day and night. AND I'm in Australia: land of spiders! Which don't bother me at all, by the way. Any that make their way inside just get taken out again.
I've observed that it's really only the Brits who have this strange, strange obsession with bringing washing in before dark.

TheGlitterFairy · 29/06/2018 13:39

Crikey! I do this all the time! Hang it out in the evening that is! Clothes being darked on and spiders willies is new to me!! Duly noted though!! Yikes!

2rebecca · 29/06/2018 13:41

I wouldn't normally but might if washing sports stuff on an evening after cycling so not leaving them sweaty overnight and pushed for time in the morning, They'd be dry when I got home from work.

2rebecca · 29/06/2018 13:43

I usually bring washing in at night and put it on airers if nearly dry as it gets soggy overnight plus usually unpredictable weather.

2rebecca · 29/06/2018 13:43

Have never washed off rainwater. Sometimes spun it if really soggy
