to think you don't peg washing out at night?

I watched my neighbour peg washing out yesterday at 6pm. AIBU to think this is weird? Its gone midnight the next day and it's still out. They have been in and out all day today. I don't know what it is but I feel weird about having washing out overnight, so I don't know why you'd peg it out just before night. And then to have it out for two nights in a row 😱 It is so warm that washing dries within hours!

We quite often put a load out overnight so at this time of year it's dry by the time another lot done in the morning is ready to go out. It doesn't seem that strange to me.

What kind of "creatures" do you imagine might get on it?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/06/2018 23:11

I dont get the Mumsnet fear of clothes getting darked on.

Just make sure you give a good shake out before folding.

OriginalGeordie · 28/06/2018 23:18

Hmmm think this could be my neighbour I did this at roughly that time, I give no shits what people think. My washing pile is never ending and I always shove the towels out last and leave them. It’s a sin to be putting a tumble dryer on in this heat!

headinhands · 28/06/2018 23:33

I might have to go to B&Q and get one of these outdoor cameras to see what’s happening with the washing if I leave it out

Unfortunately the science of laundry being darked on is the same as the slit theory in quantum physics. It will know you're watching, and when you replay the night's footage you'll merely see your clothes hanging on the line in the dark and no darking occurring.

SheerKhan · 28/06/2018 23:37

May God save us from neighbours such as yourself, OP.
What's next? You will peep in through their windows and criticise what they eat and when on this website?

seventhgonickname · 28/06/2018 23:39

Thanks for this thread you have reminded me to put my washing out
We have a small garden absence it's going to be hot again tomorrow I will put my sheets out tonight and bring them in when I get home making room for my parasol to go up and so that I can sit down without washing in my face.
I will forget if I leave I until 6.30 in the morning as I head off to work.

VickieCherry · 28/06/2018 23:40

I get home at 7pm, put a wash on and hang it out before 9pm, and get it in when I get home the next day.

Unless I get up early to allow the 1hr 20 the become takes to do a wash before work, when else am I supposed to hang washing out?

VickieCherry · 28/06/2018 23:41

*machine, not become Confused

Pinkshowerpuff · 28/06/2018 23:43

I've been putting my washing out once the children are in bed for the night. I don't have time to do it before work in the morning....maybe I'm the neighbour

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 28/06/2018 23:45

Yep, it’s fine, it goes out whenever, less to do on hectic mornings.great activity to get older kids to do before bed.

Guna100 · 28/06/2018 23:47

My DH is outside right now hanging up a load of washing....

taxi4ballet · 28/06/2018 23:48

I hang black stuff out at night during the summer, hanging it out during the day in hot sunshine makes things fade.

PuddlesOfBud · 28/06/2018 23:48

I pegged mine out the other night. In the dark!

By morning they were covered in tiny Spider cum patches not really

Armi · 28/06/2018 23:49

Put mine out at about 9pm. I leave for work at 7.15 in the morning and don’t have time to faff about with laundry before work. Love weather like this.

PuddlesOfBud · 28/06/2018 23:49

That's so clever Taxi! I never thought of that.

Sharptic · 28/06/2018 23:50

In this weather I'll happily peg my washing out in the evenings/dark

I did go to put some pajamas on yesterday though, and a massive spider ran out of them.

But it's not put me off. I just rewashed them

PuddlesOfBud · 28/06/2018 23:51

Oh and seagulls are less likely to shit on them at night which is actually an issue for me in my area.

SleepIsForTheWeek · 28/06/2018 23:55

I do, it gives me an extra 10 minutes in bed of a morning lazy

taxi4ballet · 28/06/2018 23:56

I never thought of it either Puddles, I got talking to a local when we were on holiday in Spain once and she told me that's what she did.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 28/06/2018 23:58

I've been pegging mine out at 8pm because it still can get quite dry in an hour. I bring it in as soon as it gets dark though. I've been aware my neighbours are probably seeing me do this and thinking I'm a weirdo but I really don't care. If they have nothing better to do....

Lindy2 · 28/06/2018 23:58

I don't leave mine out at night but last night DD dropped her towel in the paddling pool.
I hung it on the line overnight and despite it being darked on and spider willied it was dry in the morning just like normal washing. (Obviously though I still left it out to get a bit of sunshine so that it could counter balance the dark and for it to despider willy).

PuddlesOfBud · 28/06/2018 23:59

Well it's genius either way. I only found out about hanging your clothes on actual hangers to dry in the past few years. We always had a dryer growing up though.

paxillin · 29/06/2018 00:00

I dry dark clothes over night, so the sun doesn't bleach them.

ToothyMcPuthy · 29/06/2018 00:11

YABU. I peg washing out at night. That said, that was an odd, white stain on a dark item of clothing when I got it in. Darkness, spider willies? I’m not sure now...

sleepingdragons · 29/06/2018 00:12

Dickybow321 are you my neighbour?

We love a bit of darked-on washing here Grin
