to think you don't peg washing out at night?

I watched my neighbour peg washing out yesterday at 6pm. AIBU to think this is weird? Its gone midnight the next day and it's still out. They have been in and out all day today. I don't know what it is but I feel weird about having washing out overnight, so I don't know why you'd peg it out just before night. And then to have it out for two nights in a row 😱 It is so warm that washing dries within hours!

Ooh your hate me OP. My washing has been out for three days now. I’ve also “been in and out al day”. I just don’t have the time to go and get it off the line because baby DD is being terrible to deal with at the moment and you’d probably complain about her crying if I did 😂

anothername2 · 28/06/2018 08:23

I put my washing on line at about 10pm last night. Daughter only currently has one set of uniform that fits properly and I'm reluctant to buy more at this point in the year.

It was lovely and dry 10 minutes ago having caught the sunshine from about 5am this morning.

Why would you not put washing on the line? What do you suggest instead, the tumble dryer?

Allyg1185 · 28/06/2018 08:24

I put mine out after work and bring it in before bed. If it's still damp I hang it back out first thing so to some people it may look like it's been out all night.

anothername2 · 28/06/2018 08:26

it doesn't really get properly dark where I am in midsummer so I don't think my clothes will get frightened

nearly spat my coffee out laughing.

anothername2 · 28/06/2018 08:27

Allyg1185 but why bring the damp washing in, seems a lot of effort to then peg it out again in the morning?

What do you think might happen to it over night?

mizu · 28/06/2018 08:28

Don't usually do this but did last night as DDs PE kit needed a quick wash. They've been out and got it in this morning all dry.

TakeMeToKernow · 28/06/2018 08:30

You could be looking at my garden Blush

greendale17 · 28/06/2018 08:31

I think it’s weird

Redwalk · 28/06/2018 08:32

Yes UABU! No doubt about it, why do you even care!

Faster · 28/06/2018 08:33

I peg stuff out overnight if it’s not going to rain heavily. I work full time and I’m not spending my days off pissing about with laundry when I can be spending it with DS instead.

elloelloello · 28/06/2018 08:37

I put mine out overnight

My garden gets the sun from first thing, by the time I get up it’s usually dry and I can hang the next load out before I go to work

Sparklingbrook · 28/06/2018 08:40

I only ever put it out in the day. Wouldn't leave it overnight as it never smells the same.

Anyone else think the 'darked on' and 'spider willies' thing has been done to death now?

4littlebirds · 28/06/2018 08:54

You don’t need to leave it out overnight. It would probs be dry before dark in this weather anyway.

TheBigFatMermaid · 28/06/2018 09:01

I am just amazed anyone takes this much notice. I have no clue when my neighbours put their laundry out, or get it in, or even if they do.

You should live next to me, I don't have a washing line.

I am disabled, so would struggle to get washing in and out, certainly within what you would consider to be reasonable time scales, so I use my tumble dryer.

Saladd0dger · 28/06/2018 09:19

Another one here who leaves it out all night. Make the most of not having to use the tumble dryer

PickAChew · 28/06/2018 09:21

I usually tumble dry, but it makes the house too hot when the weather's like this, so it's a quick tumble for softness (used to live in Avery hard water area and a lot of stuff still tends to the sandpaper side of crisp, if not tumble dried) and then hung out.

About to bring in last night's load.

LEMtheoriginal · 28/06/2018 09:22

I would just like to point out that spiders don't actually have willies!

mumpatrol · 28/06/2018 09:25

I sometimes put mine out at night or leave it if it's not dry yet. We have decking with a see through roof over it in the back garden so no worries about rain and I need all the drying hours I can get as drying inside my small stone house can take up to 3 days for heavier items Blush

fieryginger · 28/06/2018 10:04

I do, they'll be dry by morning in this weather.

ElMarineroBaila · 28/06/2018 11:58

I often put mine out the night before. As PPs have said, can't leave babies on their own in the house while I do it. As long as it dries who gives a shit what time it goes outside.

MargoLovebutter · 28/06/2018 12:00

I pegged laundry out last night at 7pm and it was dry by 10pm - it was that hot still at that time of night!

Obviously, if It thought it was going to rain or it was anything other than the blasting hot heatwave we are having at the moment, I wouldn't do it.

JenBarber · 28/06/2018 12:02

Night shift worker here. Hang it up before work, come home at 8am to dry washing. Bliss.

Although I have guard pigeons to protect it.

JessyJames · 28/06/2018 12:10

Are you my neighbour? I put mine out at about 6pm yesterday.
I have been known to leave it out for days - slattern!

theSnuffster · 28/06/2018 16:29

I do it. I don't always have time to peg it out in the mornings so do it the night before.
