to think you don't peg washing out at night?

I watched my neighbour peg washing out yesterday at 6pm. AIBU to think this is weird? Its gone midnight the next day and it's still out. They have been in and out all day today. I don't know what it is but I feel weird about having washing out overnight, so I don't know why you'd peg it out just before night. And then to have it out for two nights in a row 😱 It is so warm that washing dries within hours!

On the whole, wash8ng that's been darked on better washing than washing which hasn't been darked on. It's a big MN secret; you'll have to have been here for years before any of the MN Royalty will tell you why, though.

Of course, I know. 🤫

Snoopysadog · 29/06/2018 00:24

Er... my clothes love a bit of night time freedom. I almost caught them dancing round the garden but they're a bit too quick for me. Maybe they were running away from the spider willes?? PLEASE will someone explain about spider willies?! I've sat and read this whole bleeding thread and still don't know!

WellAndTrulyCurbed · 29/06/2018 00:24

Meh. Washing goes out whenever it's done. Come's in when dry. Works for me. I'm not sure I've ever taken any notice of anyone elses.

ElenOfTheWays · 29/06/2018 00:48

spiders don't have willies

Poor spiders. Sad Or are spiders all girls?

BrendasUmbrella · 29/06/2018 00:51

My washing line turns into a hot spider nightspot after dark, so I wouldn't. Any time I forget to take some pegs in there are always webs between them in the morning.

SingingMyOwnSpecialSong · 29/06/2018 00:58

Wash a few loads last workday evening of the week, hang it out late evening. In this weather dry by noon next day. Washing free (or time/space to do sheets) weekend. No bugs ever found.

Retractable washing line did fall down this evening, just as I finished hanging it all up, which may have caused me some ‘i’m too tired to deal with this and I just want to eat chocolate’ swearing and crying while I sorted it.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 29/06/2018 01:23

LOL the some people have to much time on their hands to worry about other peoples washing habits. I regularly leave washing out overnight, it means I dont have to iron it. And who can be arsed doing housework in this heat?

stayathomer · 29/06/2018 01:37

I'd do it when I know the weather is staying fine and I wouldn't get the clothes out til lunchtime otherwise. Think of all those drying hours missed!!! And if it's good enough weather (ie now), by that time you could PUT OUT ANOTHER LOAD!!!(swoons in happinessWink) My mum does it all the time, with towels she says she doesn't mind if they get rained on first!

IslaBoots · 29/06/2018 02:07

It was 30° here today and set to be tomorrow. I have washed 3 lots of bedding tonight and hung it on the line hoping it will dry by lunchtime tomorrow. My apologies to any spiders who may be mating amongst my washing. I hope I won't squash your babies when I do the ironing tomorrow 😢

How long gestation do spiders need? Panicking now... 😰

BlitheringIdiots · 29/06/2018 05:53

I put the sheets out on the line at 9pm last night and hoping dry now so can get the next load out when it's done. First time done it. Hope
Not been darked on

ShowerGel9 · 29/06/2018 06:09

What is darkend on and spider willies?

Firstnameterms · 29/06/2018 06:32

I deliberately peg mine out at night in the summer because gasp I get up early enough without out having the hassle of having the peg washing out! So mine stays out alllllll night and allllll day Grin

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 29/06/2018 06:37

Why on earth is this weird Confused

MeMyselfand · 29/06/2018 06:51

This year I started putting mine out at night, only when I know it's warm the next day. It means I can get an extra load dry. I'm loving this revelation in clothes drying and will be carrying on

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 29/06/2018 07:07

I do this sometimes as I am not bothered by pesky fauna. But anyway at this time of the year our garden gets sunlight until 10pm so if I peg the clothes at 6 they are very likely to dry in that time.

I am now wondering if the OP is my neighbour... I live in between 2 extremes of the laundry world:

One is a pro at darkening, leaving clothes out for days on end for no particular reason

The other tries not to peg out washing because she thinks it looks bad, especially her knickers (apparently bras and men's underwear are ok). I know she frets when I peg the laundry late in the evening Grin

falang · 29/06/2018 07:17

I do it. I only get the sun at the back of my house very early in the morning so that's why.

crunchtime · 29/06/2018 07:19

i put a quilt out to dry last night when i got home from work about 6pm
it was dry by 10pm when i brought it in
why would you waste all that drying time?

monkeysox · 29/06/2018 07:27

Most people work and have to do washing when they have time.
I put a load out at 630pm last night after work.
If organised I put washer on a timer at night so finishes as get up and can put out before work on the morning.
Alternative if don't like it darked on ia do load late on an evening and then put on an airer. Put airer in garden before work in the morning. You're welcome Wink

BlitheringIdiots · 29/06/2018 08:23

It survived but isn't dry but damp. Next load was on timer so out at 6am too. Hoping all dry when get back from work :-)

RB68 · 29/06/2018 08:36

I think if there is little risk of a dew then its fine - but the dew sometimes makes it a bit hard in my view - so unless its like the weather at the meoment I don't peg it out for dark - having said that I have been pegging light stuff out around 5pm and its dry at 9

Sharonkh76 · 29/06/2018 08:40

I put mine out at 9pm last night. It was dry at 7am.

It doesn't normally work that well.

wendywoopywoo222 · 29/06/2018 08:41

I'm often putting mine out as I go to bed. Saves me time in the morning before work.

GypsyQueen · 29/06/2018 09:33

When I went to visit my cousin in California I hung a few bits out whilst she was at work only to be told off when she returned as if I had committed a faux pas with the neighbours. They have so much sunshine they take it for granted and waste it. They waste money on tumble dryers instead. Not very eco friendly either.

twattymctwatterson · 29/06/2018 09:39

But the spider willies!

Blobby10 · 29/06/2018 09:47

In this weather I would peg it out at 6pm but it would be dry by 9 so I would get it in. Have been thoroughly spooked by tales from Mumsnet of spider willies and clothes being darked on!!!
