to think you don't peg washing out at night?

I watched my neighbour peg washing out yesterday at 6pm. AIBU to think this is weird? Its gone midnight the next day and it's still out. They have been in and out all day today. I don't know what it is but I feel weird about having washing out overnight, so I don't know why you'd peg it out just before night. And then to have it out for two nights in a row 😱 It is so warm that washing dries within hours!

u r so boring. my god.

Nodancingshoes · 28/06/2018 07:04

Yep, I do that. I do a wash in the evening and hang it out ready for the next day visit I leave very early for work! Have been known to forget to bring it in too 😏

Nurse12345 · 28/06/2018 07:11

I do this all the time. I wonder if the neighbours think I'm weird for doing it!

KinkyAfro · 28/06/2018 07:11

I pegged mine out at 6.30 last night, it was dry at 8. The temp was still 24 at that time so not sure why you wouldn't

Drycleanonly7 · 28/06/2018 07:12

Goodness. Why does it matter. As someone who does this all the time in the summer and even leaves it on the line for a bit longer than one day I can assure you nothing disastrous happens to it.

I wouldn't, but we're in Scotland where it gets damp in the evening, no matter how hot it is, and the stuff would just hang there limply. Plus, it would probably start raining overnight if I did something like that.

QueenOfThorns · 28/06/2018 07:17

I do it all the time and so do my neighbours, so I’m unlikely to be annoying anyone. I’m concerned about spirits, though - do I need to get my smalls exorcised before I wear them again?

Thekitten · 28/06/2018 07:18

I had to deflea the whole house last week so I was still doing washing at 9pm, and yes, pegging it up outside overnight, and for a few days - it was warm overnight anyway and pillows apparently take days to dry thoroughly! Not weird at all :)

barbsbarbs · 28/06/2018 07:19

really? this bothers you,? you seriously need to focus on your own life,

barbsbarbs · 28/06/2018 07:20

does it matter?

kaytee87 · 28/06/2018 07:23

6pm is fine, it's light until 11pm here just now and then light again at 4am so loads of drying time during 'sleeping hours'

FatBarry · 28/06/2018 07:24

I put mine out last night, it was almost dry this morning. I had time to do it last night and it gave me a head start this morning as I am up early for work and off to a meeting.

It may rain, but it hasn't done for weeks so I'll risk it. What's the worst that can happen?

FedUpNeedFood · 28/06/2018 07:24

It's better on the line overnight than getting smelly in the machine or tumble drying. My neighbours however often leave the washing out for 2-3 days which I find odd

rookiemere · 28/06/2018 07:29

I peg mine up in the evening sometimes it stays up for two nights. It’s difficult to do it during the day what with me having a job and being out of the house but do feel free to criticise.

I used to do it during the day at weekends but due to neighbors having bbqs it gets all smoky.

No spider willies but did find an empty egg shell in the basket yesterday.

GreyBird84 · 28/06/2018 07:35

I generally hang mine out last thing at night

A) means washing basket is actually empty for a few hours

But most importantly

B) I find it difficult to watch my children while hanging it out so if I do it while they are sleeping that’s not a problem ( 1 year old wants to eat stones & climb everything, 3 yr old is autistic & extremely difficult to manage)

DinosApple · 28/06/2018 07:36

Washing smells better the longer it's left out!

Ohmydayslove · 28/06/2018 07:38

But but it will be darked on.

Fitzsimmons · 28/06/2018 07:42

I do this when the weather is good. I did it the night before last at 9pm and it was dry by 7am.

It doesn't really get properly dark where I am in mid summer so I don't think my clothes will be frightened.

runningkeenster · 28/06/2018 07:50

I pegged some out at about 10pm last night! They're not quite dry yet but will be by the time the sun is cracking the flags at about 10am.

Clearly, if the forecast was for rain, I wouldn't do.

FermatsTheorem · 28/06/2018 07:55

Ah yes, the great "darked on" debate - a long standing MN favourite.

Anyway, OP, your neighbour is a rank amateur. I was out at 10.30 pegging a load up. I expect in this weather it will be bone dry when I check on it in a few minutes time.

LadysFingers · 28/06/2018 07:57

I put a load of washing on in the morning before going to work, and put it out when I get home around 7.30 pm. Better than starting to smell, leaving it in the washing machine!

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 28/06/2018 08:05

But wont it get damp in the night and losd some freshness?

Strugglingtodomybest · 28/06/2018 08:08

But wont it get damp in the night and losd some freshness?

Maybe, but who cares? Not me Wink

DailyMaiIisMyBogRoll · 28/06/2018 08:17

It was never going to rain last night, and if you peg it out in the evening, it will be dry by morning, freeing the line up for another load. I used to do this a lot but we now have urban foxes resident in the vicinity and I have leaned from bitter experience that they have a liking for playing with / shredding anything left out at night.
