to think you don't peg washing out at night?

I watched my neighbour peg washing out yesterday at 6pm. AIBU to think this is weird? Its gone midnight the next day and it's still out. They have been in and out all day today. I don't know what it is but I feel weird about having washing out overnight, so I don't know why you'd peg it out just before night. And then to have it out for two nights in a row 😱 It is so warm that washing dries within hours!

I might have to go to B&Q and get one of these outdoor cameras to see what’s happening with the washing if I leave it out .
Hahaha

Goostacean · 28/06/2018 01:56

Doesn’t it get all dewy before the sun comes up? (Currently abroad so can’t judge UK weather- I hear there’s a heatwave, maybe too gmhot for dew?)

I know it’s just water, but... dunno. Dew would be more upsetting than spider willies, IMO.

avamiah · 28/06/2018 01:57

It’s boiling here in London.

Ski40 · 28/06/2018 02:30

Lol had never heard about the spiders' willies! There is this old superstition about spirits attaching themselves to laundry left out in the dark. I do it all the time. And I never thought a neighbour would notice this or even look at my washing line....oooops!!!😱
(Sprints out of bed to go put away all my roasted, spider willy rubbed, dark spirit possesed frilly g strings 😉😉...).
Kidding.
Thanks for this thread, being a crap night and it made me smile. X

I hung out my cats dirty blankets a few nights ago because she hadn't come home and I read that the wind blowing them can help her catch the scent and make her way home. They were hanging out for 2 days and she did make it home. Could it be something like that?

Aussiemum78 · 28/06/2018 03:23

I hang mine at night so it dries by afternoon the next day and because my mornings are rushed. My yard is secure though

avamiah · 28/06/2018 03:27

Maybe she was hungry and she came home 😊

Sunnymeg · 28/06/2018 03:28

Up until around the 1980's doing this was regarded as very slovenly and lower class and the majority of people would never ever consider doing such a thing. Now we have more methods of drying clothes than at any other time in history, it has become a more accepted thing to do. Life is strange sometimes!

TheyCanGoInTheBucket · 28/06/2018 03:30

Mines been out for 2 nights now SHOCK HORROR (I'm ill and cba bringing it in)

When I was growing up next to a chemical plant we were always told (not sure by whom now I think about it 🤔) that the chemicals from the factory would land on it overnight and ruin it.

I no longer live near aforementioned factory, ergo washing getting darked on is fine. Love that phrase Grin

Kotare · 28/06/2018 03:51

I often put mine out in the dark and leave it for several days. I have a covered washing line that was here when we moved in. It's brilliant.

user546425732 · 28/06/2018 03:58

i hang mine out at night when the weather is like this as i only have one set of clothes so i wash it hang it out and its dry by morning

AllCleverAndThat · 28/06/2018 06:20

Spider willies Grin

Iceweasel · 28/06/2018 06:24

Often put mine out on weekday evenings, I hate it sitting wet, always straight out. Don't have time in the morning.

Cheby · 28/06/2018 06:31

We liked our washing darked on here. Gives it a mysterious quality.

megletthesecond · 28/06/2018 06:31

Yabu.
It saves time leaving it out overnight. Better than it sitting damp in the washing machine all night.

MaisyPops · 28/06/2018 06:33

If it's nice weather and I can get stuff dry mid week then I peg out on an evening. It makes everything easier and ia one less thing to do in the morning.

GunslingerPie · 28/06/2018 06:34

Bugs crawl on washing regardless of it being night or day!

I don’t have time to peg stuff out in the morning, it’s chaotic here. Bung it out the night before and bring it in the next afternoon. Not seeing an issue?!

ScotsLamb · 28/06/2018 06:34

Eh do you live near me? I nearly always hang it out at night. I have the washing machine running during the day and hang it out at night to dry the next day. It gets extra outside smelling time.

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 28/06/2018 06:35

@Topseyt when i lived in centralish Leeds i had to rewash it, as the rain was REALLY dirty, so obv. Was the air but it didn't stick as much. Now inhave moved to the countryside I have this problem no more.

I guess this is passed down wisdom from the days when everyone had open fires burning and everyones air was that dirty.

speakout · 28/06/2018 06:42

What is your fear OP?

Is is the bugs? What would happen to laundry if left out?

I put a load out at 9pm last night, and I have another load washing right now, which means both loads will be out from early morning and bone dry by middle afternoon.
Sometimes I simply forget.
I don't think it is weird.

You are slightly weird for thinking this though.

Jenasaurus · 28/06/2018 06:53

maybe she wants a lie-in tomorrow so put it out tonight in the hope it will dry in the morning sunshine before she gets up?
