DH just gone away for three days, otherwise he would talk me down I’m sure. But right now it’s just me and the DC and I’ve opened DDs room to discover this.... nest? Chrysalis? It’s about 5cm x 3cm. Help!

Can't you cover it with a glass and some card and put it outside?

This ^

Don't wait to see what it is, remove it.

Somethingsfallendown · 20/06/2018 18:39

Whatever you do-don't move it until you know for sure! If it's a wasp or hornets nest could be dangerous-hence the saying about stirring up a hornets nest. I would ring somewhere that deals with wasp nest removal and ask if they would look at the photo via email to confirm. Wouldn't let dc in there till you know. Good luck.

NewElthamMum13 · 20/06/2018 18:39

Just a snail with a damaged shell, but frankly, whatever it is, it's not going to harm you or your DD. Just knock it down with a broom, sweep it into the dustpan and put it outside.

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 20/06/2018 18:40

Snail with dirty shell. Just gently pick up with tissue and pop outside

RainbowGlitterFairy · 20/06/2018 18:40

I think its the wrong colour to be a wasp nest, I reckon its a large chrysalis.

I wouldn't let DD sleep in there til I knew what it was, can you very gently knock it into a glass and put it outside? or better into a jar with air holes and let us know if anything hatches?

NewElthamMum13 · 20/06/2018 18:40

That is not a wasp or hornet nest. I've seen plenty of those and they look nothing like that.

StaplesCorner · 20/06/2018 18:40

Poke. It.

StealthNinjaMum · 20/06/2018 18:41

Wow what an excellent thread.

Op you are going to have to poke it. But on video so we can all see it. Please it's your duty to mums everywhere.

tastylancs · 20/06/2018 18:41

It’s not huge - maybe size of a large snail. DD not noticed it before so really don’t think it has been there long at all - it’s right there opposite the door as you open it. No buzzing or anything coming from it.

I’m still freaked out, though “it’s an alien” and “it has a face” made me laugh out loud. Have closed the windows, closed the door and put a towel down.

Repeat-DON'T MOVE IT! Wasps nests are lethal if disturbed.

AnnPerkins · 20/06/2018 18:42

THANK YOU peterrabbitscarrots that's the thread I was thinking of.

This is a King Alfred's Cake. Also known as a Cramp Ball apparently.

tastylancs · 20/06/2018 18:42

There is NO WAY I’m poking it or putting a glass over it.

Poke.

Poke.

Poke.

Poke it. Poke it now!

tastylancs · 20/06/2018 18:43

It is not a snail!!!!

OP posts:
Dodie66 · 20/06/2018 18:44

Looks like the start of a wasps nest

Pebblespony · 20/06/2018 18:44

I agree with snail too. It just looks massive (and extra terrestrial). Something to provide scale, like a coin, helps in these situations.

AnnPerkins · 20/06/2018 18:44

MS Paint fail Hmm

Cramp Ball

Somethingsfallendown · 20/06/2018 18:44

Just read how small it is so maybe not a nest but just the start of one? Thinking about they usu nest in holes or crevices althou a friend had one in her loft once!

Bakingberry · 20/06/2018 18:44

Did you touch it? How do you know it's not a snail?

Enb76 · 20/06/2018 18:44

That is a snail.

Strigiformes · 20/06/2018 18:44

Put a glass on it op with a piece of card or paper underneath. You can move it easily then.

SluttyButty · 20/06/2018 18:44

How do you know it's not a snail op?

GetInMaBelleh · 20/06/2018 18:45

Looks like a snail

StaplesCorner · 20/06/2018 18:45

Yes it is a snail.

It doesn't need a towel - FFS you'll be giving it a guest soap next.

Just poke it. Hard, and it will fall down onto the towel. Then tell us what happened.

SluttyButty · 20/06/2018 18:45

And I showed dd and she said toad too 😱
