I took on the mantle to start another thread. If that is not allowed, Mods delete the thread, I am not sure of the protocol. But it certainly is an interesting discussion!

If allowed to stay as my OP, let's go!

OP posts:
scaryteacher · 19/06/2018 10:05

54321go It's illegal not to have your ID card on you in Belgium. I stick mine in a pocket when I go for a walk, along with €5 to show I'm not an indigent.

surferjet · 19/06/2018 10:06

Remainers will never stop referring to leave voters as thick & racist ( & god forbid over 50! )
It’s disgusting really, but that’s just the way a lot of remainers roll.

topcat1980 · 19/06/2018 10:08

Right so you can find one example on this thread?

But I can find several examples of people saying "All remianers say that leave voters are".

I see far more leave posters saying this than its said by remain posters.

surferjet · 19/06/2018 10:17

topcat1980

I suggest you go and read the EU ref board.
Leavers don’t post there anymore ( well hardly ever ) because of the constant abuse.
There’s only one longing run thread left. & that’s full of pompous remainers wondering why peasants were ever allowed the vote.

topcat1980 · 19/06/2018 10:21

I've read the Westmintenders ( or whatever) it hardly seems like you say.

Lots of frustration about how leaving is being managed though and the incompetence of the government.

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 10:25

I voted Remain. If it makes you feel better fighting old battles rather than proving me wrong, go ahead.

surferjet · 19/06/2018 10:56

Well you couldn’t have read very much.
As a group they’re not very nice people, extremely condescending with a nauseating ‘we know best’ attitude.
They seem to have so much time on their hands too, which speaks volumes in itself.

surferjet · 19/06/2018 10:58

Anyway - good news about all the extra money for the NHS, now the EU isn’t ripping us off.

topcat1980 · 19/06/2018 10:58

Your attitude seems to be a lot more condescending and nauseating tbf.

Pot kettle maybe?

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 10:58

Well, we do know best. But you think you know best.
Difference of opinion on Brexit.

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 11:03

The extra money on the NHS is what the government would have paid anyway. It's just been branded as extra.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/06/2018 11:04

If you think more money for the NHS is due to brexit dividend then your intelligence deserves to be questioned

topcat1980 · 19/06/2018 11:07

There is no extra money from the NHS because of Brexit.

In fact that OBR and IFS say there will be £300m less per week in tax than we had prior.

Its going to come from tax rises, that emergency budget is being snuck by in each budget since.

LillianGish · 19/06/2018 13:19

I would say they are ill informed and perhaps too ill educated to inform themselves. Call it what you like. Based on countless head-in-sand comments on here by leavers convinced things won't be so bad and even if they are it won't be forever - no facts or figures to back this up just blind faith that it will be so. This is coupled with an unwillingness to see that they have been manipulated by a few very rich people whose concern is chiefly with lining their own pockets and an inability to acknowledge that once we have left there will be no turning back. I have seen little intelligent argument from leavers on here beyond The People Have Spoken despite the fact many of those people were unclear what they were actually voting for beyond the explanation that Brexit means Brexit. No one can agree what that means even two years down the line. The people I feel sorry for are impoverished leave voters who live in struggling areas of the UK propped up by EU funding who have literally voted to pull the rug from under themselves. Down the line when the chickens come home to roost those same people will no doubt be bleating that this is not what they voted for. Surferjet read the article from the FT linked further down this thread and then tell me you really believe that leaving the EU has somehow magically conjured up the money to fund the NHS. Ignore the comments like yours are the perfect illustration of the ill informed leaver.

Dapplegrey · 19/06/2018 13:20

Topcat - a pp found some examples:

Anyway I could say anyone who has fallen for that crap is thick and they bloody well are but I wont.

It’s the rich leading the thick

Anyone who isn’t worried is either very rich or thick.

Also, another remainer, Bearbehind, actually started a thread saying that she thought only those who were well informed should be allowed to vote.
I'm very surprised to find a poster on a public forum in the 21st century who doesn't believe in universal suffrage.

LillianGish · 19/06/2018 13:20

Ignorant comments like yours ...

Justanotherlurker · 19/06/2018 13:39

I would say they are ill informed and perhaps too ill educated to inform themselves.

Another one to add to the "strawman" @TopCat1980

I presume @LillianGish you also put Benn and Corbyn into that category or do you start the "nuanced" argument

frumpety · 19/06/2018 13:43

Two long years of achieving bugger all, with lets be honest no end currently in sight.

topcat1980 · 19/06/2018 13:48

But being ill informed isn't the same as saying people are thick is it?

Stating points that are incorrect when reliable information is easily available which demonstrate its incorrectness is ill informed.

54321go · 19/06/2018 13:49

Thanks Scaryteacher. I sent a PM but your 'on board' answer suggests you won't know the specific answer.

54321go · 19/06/2018 13:55

If the Gov wanted to put more money into the NHS it COULD have done years ago it is up to the Gov to decide where money is spent. Maybe cancel one of the jets that haven't arrived from America or put it into a 'phase 2' somewhere in the future but spend the 'cash' on the NHS now.
The Navy will only break it anyway, that is the nature of those things.
The aircraft carrier that it goes on is useless as soon as someone makes a hole in it.

54321go · 19/06/2018 14:00

The carnage of 9/11 was 'created' by several guys with handguns and a 'death wish', doing what (at the time) Westerners thought was unthinkable.

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 14:00

"The Navy will only break it anyway, that is the nature of those things". Bit childish, don't you think.

54321go · 19/06/2018 14:04

Maybe, but they are a very expensive 'luxury' if you can't really afford them.

54321go · 19/06/2018 14:07

At the point where an aircraft carrier will be really needed, there will have to be a massive amount of world turmoil going on so we would be working in partnership.
